Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 3 adults

Overview

A warm, garden cottage nestled in a grotto in the heart of Manitou. This renovated boutique (320 sq. ft.) dwelling dates to 1896, and is seconds to springs, coffee houses, shops, trails & spas. The Nest is a half block from Manitou Avenue but surprisingly private, and it is surrounded by nature.

Layout

The cottage has three rooms--a bedroom, a living room with adjoining kitchenette, and a 3/4 bath.

Bedroom

A full-sized, memory foam bed in a separate bedroom provides great comfort and privacy. Baseboard heat (dedicated and adjustable) sets the room to your most comfortable sleeping temperature. The bedroom has a door that opens to an outdoor seating area behind the cottage. The room contains a TV, DVD player and DVD collection, as well as shelves for storing clothes.

Living Room

The Living Room is equipped with a Jotul gas heating stove, a sectional couch with end tables, a round, and a circular, wooden table settee with two chairs. The room is perfect for lounging, and the couch, one section of which lifts up for storage becomes a queen-sized bed for one additional adult guest or two children.

Kitchenette

The kitchenette adjoins the living room. It has a half-sized fridge, toaster oven, microwave and double sink, electric water boiler, french press, a all the necessary plates, mugs and utensils. The gas stove top serves as prep space, but can be utilized for stove top cooking if/as necessary.

Soak up the intimate environment of the garden, with limestone retaining wall and patio seating, both in front of the cottage and in a nature nook off of the bedroom. Sunlight beams into the cottage through windows on all sides, and through a skylight over the shower. Sun-filtering blinds and a gas stove are perfect for those days when you just want to curl up in a soft, warm blanket and read while you sip hot tea.

Need an additional place on site for other family members (up to 8) to stay? We also have a 2 bedroom, 2 loft, 2 full bathroom property in neighboring Old Colorado City. See

Why Christopher Dwyer chose Colorado Springs

The 1919 Main House, 1896 Cottage and 1/3 acre grounds are a surprising mix of private and ultra-convenient.

The owners are in the process of evolving their property into a center for community engagement, a place where people, groups and communities can learn how to become more self-reliant, abundant and joyful in this time of societal transition.

What makes this cottage unique

Boutique, private cottage that feels like it's in a nature bubble, but that is half a block from historic downtown. Inquire with hosts about local connections and additional on-site and off-site services and packages, from healing treatments and herbs, to yoga instruction, to healthy food products, to discounts at local restaurants and the local spa.

Guestbook comments from the owner

From the moment we arrived, we were treated as family by our hosts. The privacy of our charming cottage was special, yet just one block from downtown activities . .. a most memorable holiday. We plan to return again and again to this lovely mountain retreat.

Wow! This place could not have been more charming

  • 4 of 5

We booked a weekend away to celebrate a one year anniversary. The plan was to use the cottage mainly for sleeping because we would be so busy mountain biking and hiking. Well, Mother Nature threw a wrench in our plans and brought freezing rain and snow. There is no better place on earth to be holed up for a day or two than the "Gnome Cottage" - as we called it. We arrived to find truffles and mixed nuts and everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. We slept like babies in the super comfy bed. When the VRBO description says it's a 1 min walk from downtown that is not an exaggeration. It is literally a minute. It would take ten times longer to drive and try to find parking. Despite how close it is to downtown, it truly does feel like you're in a little cottage in the woods.

Owner's Response: We were delighted to host you, Brad, and we love the moniker "Gnome Cottage," which we believe captures beautifully the Fablehaven-esque sanctuary in the heart of Manitou Springs. Jillian was thrilled that you liked the organic, hand-rolled, Peruvian dark chocolate truffles she crafts for our guests and for guests of the new Sunwater Spa. We welcome you back to fall in love at the foot of America's Mountain anytime.

A great 2 day stopover

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy overall with the Cottage. We knew going into it that it would be a cozy place. For someone larger like myself the doorways and bedroom walkway were narrow. But hardly an issue for our short stay. The main room was perfect, couch was nice and the kitchen provided us more then we needed. The shower was a little shorter then expected but certainly not an issue. There was room for two side by side at the sink. The driveway was able to accommodate our smaller SUV. Mid size would work as well. If you have something larger I would mention it upon arrival, but there is definitely room for it to fit.

Power went out in the town after a bad storm, and we were given candles and Champagne which was enough to make it a great night.

Its a small town, and we were in the downtown area, but the property seemed more secluded then anything else in the area. And a nice short walk to some dining or local shops.

Perfect location close to shops and restaurants, yet private and secluded

  • 5 of 5

Loved Manitou Springs! Lots of cute shops and restaurants. This cottage is small but had everything we needed. Close walking distance to all the shops, yet totally private and secluded from everything. Loved our stay here. Hope to return one day.

Quiet and cozy. Close to everything.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is nicely appointed and well laid out. The inside is cozy and the outside is relaxing. The cottage is a block from the main drag of Manitou Springs. I would recommend PJ's Bistro and Maté Factor Cafe.

Cute little "nest" super close to downtown Manitou

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect location in Manitou Springs. We were able to walk downtown every evening and the free Manitou Shuttle stops are super close as well. We used the shuttle to get to Pikes Peak railway. We came back one evening to some delicious homemade chocolates and champagne grapes! So yummy! We visited Garden of the Gods and Cave of the Winds and those are both just a short drive away. My daughter LOVED seeing the chickens every day. We recommend Manitou Brewing Co for great food and awesome beer that is also just a short walk from the Nest. My daughter also loved walking to the Penny Arcade every evening. Bed was comfortable and the place is clean. Perfect stay and would definitely stay again!
