MAHANA HOUSE COUNTRY INN is owned and operated by Randy and Alison Simpson who have years of experience in the hospitality industry. We pride ourselves on the CLEANLINESS and COMFORT of our WELL-APPOINTED guest rooms. It is our most sincere wish to provide our guests with a quiet, peaceful, and relaxing stay on the Big Island. The incredible natural beauty and climate of Hawaii is something we appreciate every day and it is a privilege to share this wonderful place with our guests.
Randy and Alison Simpson
Randy and Alison moved to the Big Island from Ontario, Canada in 2013. After visiting for the first time in 2008, we fell in love with the Hamakua Coast. We were able to sell our hotel and restaurant businesses in our hometown of Stratford and make the dream of Mahana House a reality.
Randy and Alison live in a small house slightly uphill from the main house. A few friendly cats roam the farm. They are happy to be petted should you encounter them (perhaps on your lanai…) but are definitely not allowed inside the main house or guest rooms.
Randy Simpson purchased this house in 2013
After visiting the Big Island several times, we fell in love with the Hamakua Coast. Once we found this property and the saw view we were hooked. The East side of Hawaii offers a unique experience with great parks, restaurants and hikes for your Hawaii adventure.
Large private guest rooms are newly built by industry professionals. Incredibly beautiful climate and view. Perfect for couples. Stay and do exactly as much or as little as you like!
We so appreciated the care with which Randy and Allison have developed this property. The room is very large with ample space and equipment for preparing simple meals. We also could use the large kitchen in the main house a few steps away. Our end room was well ventilated. Alison has done a wonderful job with her design and furnishing. Very attractive and simple so there is not a lot of stuff around to get in your way. Nice lanai; the shower was one of the best. We did not miss our tv and learned to download a movie or 2. Most of all we loved the view out over the large lawn and the distant ocean. We loved this setting, 15 miles north of old Hilo. We prefer this to being in town. We would stay again if we ever return to Hawaii. We highly recommend the Mahana Inn. Also, Randy was incredibly attentive and helpful.
This amazing Inn is the best of all worlds... Far away enough from the mid town traffic, but close enough to get to everything you want within minutes!!
We didn't expect this much beauty for the georgeous view of the ocean amongst the
Randy and Alison's oisis far exceeded expectations! This young couple has very intentionally planned every detail with the the comfort and enjoyment of their guests in mind. From the friendly personalized welcome sign and the abundance of free fruit, to the luxerious, spacious common room and huge perfectly equipped kitchen, to the tastfully designed and decorated individual rooms, everything is perfect! Each unit has a relaxing, private front patio which overlooks the country side through to the ocean. The view is serene and beautiful. A prepared binder offers excellent advice snd directions for tourists, enhanced with ideas resulting from Randy and Alison's personal explorations. Additional materisls are also available. Laundry facilities are excellent and provided at no extra costs. This couple's preparations for their guests and their friendliness is exemplary! We only wish we could have stayed longer!
This facility would also be perfect for a family gathering or group of friends.
A memorable trip to The Big Island was further enhanced by the wonderful accommodation at Mahana House. After a day of exploring the sights, we always looked forward to relaxing on the lanai and either using the barbecue or fully equipped kitchen to prepare our evening meal. Lazy mornings taking in the ocean view while sipping our coffee was a great start to each day. All the thoughtful extras and attention to detail by the proprietors made for a terrific experience.
We stayed at Mahana House for over 2 weeks. It was a relief to stay there after Honolulu.A friend asked us what the best thing about our trip was. After a second of thinking I answered staying at Mahana House. It is top notch for everything promised and more! Want lawn chairs for the day? Help yourself. Picnic cooler and ice? Again provided. Grill fish fish? Barbecue provided! The rooms are spacious and immaculately maintained. There are massive sleep number king sized beds, sitting indoor area, small kitchenette, eating area, huge bathroom, and private patio with ocean view at each unit. Then there is also a gigantic common room with a kitchen just like home. With this area are more seating areas, large dining table and a large outdoor patio with a huge table facing the ocean. This would be perfect if you wanted to meet for a family reunion. I also forgot to mention you are welcome to use a washer and dryer. This is one of the best places we have ever stayed at. They also provided each room with a travel book by Andrew Doughty which came in handy for day trips. Mahana House is close to many popular attractions. It is a short drive to Hilo which had a handy farmer market and many grocery stores. The owners are a very young couple who are meant to be in the hospitality business. If we ever travel to Hawaii we will be sure to return to Mahana House. Happy Ontario Couple
My husband and I just spent two wonderful weeks at Mahana House. The accomodations are outstanding and very clean and comfortable. Each room has a small kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. There is a large kitchen and living area for all visitors to share. It was so wonderful to have laundry facilities available. The views from our private lanai were beautiful to say the least. There is so much to see and do on the Big Island. Randy and Alison have done a great job with recomendations for sightseeing and even providing directions and mileage to each spot. Take advantage of the fruit that is available on the farm. The camp fires were a lot of fun. The apple bananas were delicious. We would both highly recommend Mahana House.
One of the things we love most about our property is that we are in quiet rural setting while at the same time close to Hilo which has all we need for groceries, restaurants, shopping and entertainment.
