About Nadeen & Thom
Traverse City and Bass Lake has been our home away from home for 20 years. We have been married 24 years and currently live & work in the city of Chicago We love the area and the natural setting of Bass Lake and wanted to make this, our newer cottage, available to others. We care about design, art, color and history and of course, nature!
Nadeen & Thom purchased this House in 2015
Why Nadeen & Thom chose Traverse City
The hilltop view of the lake offers a unique perspective of Bass Lake, its 4 islands and its wildlife activity. With the call of the loons you might even think you are up in the Canadian wilderness! The cottage offers multiple spaces to enjoy with a variety of unique rooms & views. The rooms are colorful with comfortable decor and a key west kind of vibe. The lake offers peaceful views & fishing for those so inclined. Less than 15 minutes from charming downtown Traverse City makes this a great base camp for all the area attractions.

Cute and cozy
Well-maintained house with great lake access/views, decent proximity to stores and Traverse City while still feeling secluded. Owners are super and responsive - obviously care a lot about their guests and the house!
Thanks for your kind words John & for choosing to stay at our Bass Lake cottage! Happy trails!
Spectacular view, quiet place.
WE had a great time. The sand box by the water with the fire pit is a really nice improvement. We had a very relaxing week. The view is fabulous
Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed the sand box! Thanks for choosing to stay with us again!
Beautiful and private property
The home was clean and spacious. It was perfect for the six of us (two couples and two kids). We enjoyed time playing in the lake, fishing off the dock, and exploring nearby areas. There were few others around, so we were able to soak in the beauty of Michigan without distraction--just what we needed... Great wildlife viewing as well--deer, bald eagles, lots of birds, snakes, frogs, and more.
Thom and Nadeen communicated with us prior to and during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. They were accommodating and kind and exceedingly generous.
Tranquil Lakefront week
We had a wonderful week at the Roadhouse, Thom and Nadine were very accommodating and responsive to requests. We loved the view from the upper living room and the lower covered porch (with the bouncing swing). We rented a pontoon boat for the week and took it out every day. The lake was very quiet and we felt secluded. We saw a deer out on the nearest island, it jumped in the water and swam up to our shore. We even saw a rainbow right out of the picture window! The house was very clean and well furnished, nice dishes, very nice towels and blankets. The WiFi worked great and the tv was set up with free access to Hulu, Netflix, etc. the house was insect free. The water did not taste good so we went through a lot of bottled water. If I had to suggest any improvement, I’d say a second 1/2 bathroom would be useful. Also, a salad bowl and a casserole dish could be added. Our family would rent this again. We have great vacation memories.
Lots to like here. . .
Many good things, which include:
1. Good location. Ten or fifteen minutes to downtown TC. Close proximity to other lakes if you like to fish.
2. Nice setting, which includes several mature trees for shade. My wife and I enjoyed sitting down by the lake in the evenings due to the cool breeze o.ff the lake. It was in the low 90's while we were there.
3. Beds and pillows were super comfortable, and the neighborhood quite.
4. Kitchen is functionable with a nice large table. It also has a gas stove.
5. Bass Lake is an excellent fishing lake, especially if you are going after large mouth bass. Fish between the islands in the 5 to 10 ft water from dusk on, and you'll be in to lots of action. I had a blast with my fly rod using a top water popper.
6. House was perfectly clean when we arrived, and the owners were excellent in answering questions promptly with enthusiasm. A+ mark to the owners.
As is the case with many older lake cottages in the north, it does not have air conditioning. It was quite hot for a couple days during our stay, and it wasn't much of a problem. Our bedrooms were furnished with a fan each, and the fans seemed to provide an adequate environment for sleeping, even without an air conditioner.
Thanks for choosing to stay at our cottage Martin & for your kind words!! We are glad you enjoyed our cottage, the lake, the Traverse City surroundings & the fishing!!!! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
