Why peter s mcghee chose Menemsha
The Little House was built as a guest house in 1960, beginning as one big room with a bath and a kitchenette, and over the years has added a fully applianced gourmet kitchen, a bedroom, and a detached bunk house with further sleeping capacity. It is compact but fully equipped for a relaxed vacation with quick access to the charms of Chilmark and Menemsha and all the down-island towns.

A pleasure to stay in a cottage so obviously dear to the heart of the owner.
We received a personal welcome, and enjoyed every aspect of our stay.
Lovely Vineyard home with all the conveniences
We loved this cottage. Simple but totally authentic Vineyard. The kitchen has everything we needed, and more. Everything was comfortable and homey. A delightful place.
A charming cottage with a wonderful kitchen
We had a wonderful time in this lovely, simple cottage. The kitchen is a true cook's space with an extraordinary collection top-quality pots and pans, a six burner gas stove and even a burr coffee grinder. We found staples like olive oil, salt, etc. in the cabinets.
Beyond the kitchen, the house is rustic but comfortable. Unlike some short-term rentals, the cottage is not stripped bare -- there are books and games on the shelves, wildlife guides for hikes in the woods and the beaches, and plenty of beach towels.
Menemsha is an old fishing village whose docks are lined with shanties, several good fish markets (Larsen's is our favorite), a gas station, and close by clothes stores, a grocery, and an antiques store as well as several restaurants ranging from The Home Port , for sit down dinners, to the Galley and Menemsha Bites , popular for take out. Larsen's also serves lobsters cooked to order and a raw bar for consumption at informal tables on the dock. A hundred feet away Menemsha Fish Market is famous for its chowder and lobster rolls.
