Great get-away location in Hawaii! Away from the crowds of Waikiki or Hanuama Bay but close enough to visit! Just up the Leeward shore of Oahu past Pearl Harbor, Ko'Olina and the new Disney resort (Aulani). Located on one of the best beaches on the island. Beautiful condominium on the ocean with private Lanai (balcony) with views of the whales and dolphins or you can watch the sea turtles. Great place to watch the sunset, too! Quiet area with Beautiful Pool and Spa.

Fully furnished condo with all the amenities of home. Freshly painted with new carpeting and murals painted on the walls by a local artist (Elbert East). Close to golfing and right out your door is a great place to go scuba diving or snorkeling. Visit Diamond Head, Honolulu Zoo, Polynesian Cultural Center, Sea Life Park, or just relax and watch the surfers. Great place for a family vacation with a beautiful beach and relaxing atmosphere.

Our family has always enjoyed staying in Hawaii and we love the ocean! We decided that this is where we would like to retire. We bought our place in Makaha so that some day we can spend all our time here - in the meantime, we rent it out so that others can enjoy the beautiful beach and all the amenities that the Hawaiian Princess has to offer. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do! Aloha!

What makes this condo unique

You can watch the spinner dolphins frolick just off the point of Mt. Lahi and watch the whales and turtles from the lanai. We have a beautiful beach with local artists painting and drawing the beautiful scenery. You can buy it direct from them instead of picking it up at the expensive shops in Waikiki. The beach is not crowded and it is a great place to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city! Relax and Unwind!

Owner knew of construction, but didn't tell us

We reserved this property in June for October. At that time there was no mention of construction on the property. When we arrived we were shocked to see half the building was undergoing construction which affected access to the pool area and resulted in the barbq area being closed.

The loud noise during the weekdays made it impossible to peacefully enjoy our vacation in the condo every weekday from 0800-1600.

The onsite property management did not understand why the owner didn't tell us about the construction, because they said it had been going on since spring and everyone knew it would be going on well into November.

When revisiting the website for this property upon arrival we saw construction was now mentioned and a reduced rate was being offered during this rental period.

The condo building and location is nice, but be wary of renting from this particular owner. Based on our experience I would not trust them. We were told our damage deposit check was mailed back to us, but we never received it. They offered to pay us for the stop fee charge if we showed them proof of the cost, but I am not going to show them a copy of our bank statement. They also did not respond to our question about the unit just prior to us leaving. These are smaller issues, but the failure to tell us about the construction is a major issue which shows a lack of concern for their customers. If things work out for you, you are lucky and in no way is this owner responsible for your good fortune.

Memorable stay

Our 8 nights stay at Hawaiian Princess became one of the most memorable stays. The unit was equipped with everything we needed. We were spoiled having a direct access to the nice beach right in front of the property. The clean & uncrowded beach was so nice that we spent most of the time there. We snorkeled and saw tons of fish swimming right below us. We saw some turtles swimming by us as well. There were rocks just a few yards out in the water where the fishes found their hiding spots. We were thankful that the unit was equipped with gears including various sizes of water shoes we could use. We had a few days when the wave was a little strong that even a good size adult can lose balance, but the rest was fine. The view from lanai in the morning and sunset was priceless. The only down side is that the property is located in a little suspicious neighborhood tucked away from tourist attractions. Since we spent most of the time either in the gated property or driving out to tourist attractions, we did not mind the neighborhood. The traffic to/from Honolulu was usually heavy, at least 1/2 hour to Kapolei (about 15 miles) or 1-1.5 hour to Honolulu (about 35 miles). If your main purpose to stay in Oahu is to enjoy the beach, this is the place.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you were able to enjoy the beach as much as we do! It is a great place for families and young children - especially in the summer months. The waves are a bit rougher during the winter months on our beach, which is good for surfers but not as good for families. We try to have everything you need for your beach vacation so that you do not have to purchase items that you will have to try to carry home in your luggage or leave behind. It is much easier for us to have them available for everyone to use. Plus - there is a rental store within walking distance where you can rent kayaks, surf boards or fishing poles. This is a great location but it is not in the tourist area of Oahu, this is where the locals live but if you talk to them, you will learn a lot about the area and the island and about some of their traditions. We love meeting locals on the beach and hearing about the island. Many times during the 4th of July holiday, they will have a community pot luck dinner on the beach and if you talk to them, they will invite you to join! Then you can taste some real Island cooking and hear all the fishing stories and tales of Hawaii! ENJOY!

Stellar Beach

We enjoyed our stay at Jody and Matt's condo on Makana Beach.

This beach is pristine with swimming pool clear water and white sand and the best part, it is never crowded! The condo is in an area of locals, where some of the residential areas look a bit run down, however, the condo building and property is clean and very secure, parking was great.

The unit contained everything we needed, quite comfortable and clean, albeit in need of basic maintenance. The owners even provide beach gear such as boogie boards, chairs etc.

Unfortunately, midway through our stay, there was exterior construction which was quite loud, prompting us to leave the condo.

Bottom line: This is a very nice condo, with a great fifth floor view of the stellar beach.

Owner's Response: Thanks John for your review! Unfortunately, there is not much we can do about the maintenance on the outside of the building. Fortunately, it is scheduled to be done by September of this year. We will then be able to finish the repairs to our balcony once they are done. We hope that the reduced rates helped to make up for the noise disruption. We will be back on the island in July to do maintenance on our place so we hope you will come stay at our place again when things have improved and the maintenance is done! Mahalo and God Bless!

Amazing Beach and Amazing View

The Hawaiian Princess was a huge surprise. This is probably the nicest beach I have seen in Hawaii. The rental unit was clean and worked perfectly for our family of four. They had boogie boards, snorkel equipment and some life jackets. Jody reached out to make sure everything was good which was appreciated. We would definitely stay again.

Perfect beach vacation and unbeatable value

I highly recommend Jody and Matt Ballard's condo at the Hawaiian Princess and want to reinforce every other positive review I myself read before booking our stay. The unit was clean, comfortable, quiet and incredibly convenient, with stunning views of the immaculate (and almost completely empty) beach from our balcony. All you can hear day and night is the soothing sound of waves crashing onto the beach. The Hawaiian Princess is well-run, with friendly staff, 24 hour security and a gated entry, and the swimmable beach is literally at your doorstep. While dining options are limited, as others have pointed out, Kapolei is an easy 20-30 minute drive away, and there are numerous dining and shopping options available there. Locally, you can get fast food and there is a Starbucks just a few minutes down the road where a Longs drugstore is, if you need a quick pick me up or any necessities. If you are interested in a beach vacation, away from the crowds and expense of Honolulu, this is the place to go. While it is true that Wainae is not the most affluent area on the island, we did not find this to be an issue at all, as others have also pointed out.This is our second trip to HI and our first stay at the Hawaiian Princess. We learned during our first trip that swimmable beaches are not as numerous as you might think in HI, and many "beachfront" options may have nice views of a beach, but because of dangerous surf, or coral reefs, rocks, etc., the beaches are only safe for experienced surfers at best. So having a truly swimmable beach available 24/7 is a true luxury. Finally, I want to commend Jody and Matt Ballard as exceptionally responsive and reliable owners. We had a couple of minor problems and they responded immediately to resolve them. They were friendly, pleasant and helpful, and clearly care about their renters. We could not have been more pleased and definitely will come back whenever we make another trip to HI. My son, grandson and daughter in law, who live in Kaploei, were so impressed with our unit and the gorgeous and spacious beach, they are considering renting it for a "staycation" for themselves, as well as for her parents when they visit from Japan. So even locals like my family recognize what an incredible value and beach experience this condo provides. I think that says it all.

Amazing!

Stunning view and well maintained Condo with all the amenities you'd would need on a vacation home away from home. Jody was amazing in helping us with a last minute reservation as our previously booked home turned out to be a disaster. She definitely made our trip go from boo to AMAZING. I can't believe how lucky we were to find this place. The condo has everything you need, the VIEW IS UNBELIEVABLE, and sitting on a nearly secluded beach after a long day of excursions was heaven. Not to mention that the secure, gated parking is a huge bonus. Thank you again Jody for making our vacation turn out to be unforgettable. We cant stop talking about it. We will be back for sure.
