About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 full bath, sleeps 6 people

Relax and enjoy your stay in the Sandy River Beach section of Historic Jonesport, Maine.

Enjoy the ever-changing panorama of sunrises and colorful sunsets in this laid-back non-commercial real-life fishing village.

Explore "Bar Island" - which is accessible by foot at Low Tide, or take a kayak out to the island at High Tide.

Observe a family of Bald Eagles who have nested on and returned to Bar Island year after year.

Enjoy bird watching right from the spacious, wrap-around deck, hike the sand beach, or try the many hiking trails that abound in the area, including the nature preserve on Great Wass Island located just over the Jonesport-Beals Bridge.

The choices for day trips include several famous lighthouses in the area, and featuring the often-photographed candy-striped tower at West Quoddy Head Light. Visiting President Franklin D. Roosevelt's summer home on Campobello Island is the culmination of a worthwhile day trip to nearby Lubec, with its quaint shops and eateries, and the Canadian Border.

Local "catch of the day" seafood can be purchased at the seafood Co-Op in the downtown area, as well as lots of great local produce at the local farmers markets, and daily specials at the largest local farm in the area.

Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are a short day trip, as well as historic Raye's Mustard Mill in Eastport -- the last true working stone ground mustard mill in the United States. It is still in use, and the workers LOVE to give the tour!!

Also very nearby is the Bartlett Maine Estate Winery...the first of its kind in the entire state of Maine.

All in all, Sandy River Beach is a very relaxing place to spend your vacation, yet not so far out of the way.

Ending each of your days with a nice glass of local wine while sitting on the porch swing keeps you wondering who is running the rest of the world.

Very relaxing time!

  • 5 of 5

I wasn't sure I would like to be this far north in Maine but I fell in love with the place. We enjoyed sitting on the porch swing, watching the tide come in & go out.

Harlan is super nice. A really great guy. He made us feel welcome in his home.

I can't wait to visit again.

What a Treasure!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 2 weeks here. The house is large & sparkly clean. The view is INCREDIBLE. I spent many afternoons sitting on the porch swing watching the sea, hearing the waves, and seeing an eagle that has a nest on the island across from the house. Truly magical! The owner, Harlan, was so incredibly warm, friendly & helpful! He told us the best places to eat (he was right!), hike (what a day that was!) and he also arranged for a lobster boat trip for my family (with the fog gently rolling in on the bay!). We haven't had this special of a vacation in a long time. Thank you, Harlan!!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We found this home to be clean, comfortable and cozy (we had some cool nights!). Everything was as described on the website. Harlan was helpful and friendly, but respected our privacy. We would stay there again, and recommend it to others.

the best vacation ever

  • 5 of 5

This was the best vacation rental i have ever had. i have traveled the world for telivision staying at all the great hotels, but the friendleeness and welcoming atmosphire of this house and the owner and family was fantastic. everything from lobster dinners, to "lobster men" statues were a joy. The view is unparralled. One ot the best in the world. I would set on the porch every morning and drink my coffee in compleet bliss. I wish i was there right now. Jones Port is Maine as it once was. I went lobstering for the first time and tryed to buy the Moose Peak Light House on Mistake island but i was outbid. i love the guys and the place. You will fall in love with it if you go.

It doesn't get any better...

  • 5 of 5

This summer (2012) Harlan Samualson helped provide housing for our hiking trail crew working on Great Wass Island. The crew was composed of six recent college graduates working their first job. And for all but one individual, it was their first time visiting Maine. It would have been easy for Harlan to dismiss the kids over concern for possible problems; however, he generously opened his home and extended to great lengths (including a huge lobster feed!!). The crew expressed that they felt safe and comfortable in the rental. They were able to shower and clean, do laundry, maintain field equipment, and most importantly relax. When they had questions, Harlan was nearby to assist and also was willing to share a joke. All in all, renting here proved to be the perfect scenario for our summer work agenda, and the crew had a Downeast experience that was beyond what they could have imagined. Thank you Harlan and Bob for making this happen! We are in your debt.

For six summers - 2000 through 2005 - we had the distinct pleasure of renting the Jonesport home of Harlan Samuelson .We loved the home, the town, and Harlan so much that the reason we didn’t rent in 2006 was that we had purchased a Jonesport home of our own just down the block. Harlan’s house is lovely-spotlessly clean and Harlan’s hospitality extends to not only procuring lobsters for his renters but cooking and picking them. He is, simply, as delightful as his home-our favorite room is the huge kitchen that overlooks the beautiful view from his deck.

Since 2006 and our summer stays in Jonesport at our home, we’ve had the opportunity to converse with a wide variety of people who have stayed at Harlan’s home and enjoyed his hospitality. Elderly visitors, those with families including dogs and children and couples looking for a quiet getaway. Many like us have returned to visit the Samuelson home again. Quite honestly, we were moved to write this review by what we feel to be a grossly unfair representation of Harlan’s home and his hospitality.

Sometimes when people’s financial wishes are thwarted there is a tendency to strike back in an unfair manner and when you contract a home for a week, thus precluding others from renting, you cannot expect to be given a refund when you choose to back out of the contract after two days. And to then attack the integrity of the other person is, well, just beyond the bounds of decency. In all the years we have known Harlan and in all the conversations we have had with his renters over the years NO ONE has ever come close to accusing him of raising his voice and using language not suitable for children. Harlan is GREAT with kids and animals, not to mention the elderly as my mother can attest to. As far as the deck is concerned, one can see from the pictures of the home that where there is a substantial drop there is a sturdy railing .There is beautiful china in the house in a LOCKED cabinet and the FEW personal effects make the house that much more charming. You don’t know about where the washer/dryer are? How about asking him?! The TV dish only has one channel coming in? Could the weather have had something to do with that? And, let’s face it, could the stormy weather that week have resulted in the abrupt end to the vacation and the request for refund?Harlan’s great at providing a wonderful vacation for his guests, but even he can’t control the weather! And, last but not least, there are those rare occasions when yo
