About Annette Cates
I own the 1850's Massanutten Springs (log cabin) -restored it and now is a weekend rental... I got started in this business because I was taking care of my mother and needed additional help - although mom (Charlotte Good Kibler) passed away before completion she would be proud I know. As a single mother I just want to provide for my daughter and her future, which is why I decided to purchase the Rock Tavern property when the opportunity presented itself - my late father Aaron P Kibler would be proud to see the Rock Tavern back in the family - Uncle Abe was his brother. I believe 'Horses can Soothe your Soul' - if you visit Massanutten Springs website under horse tales - you will see a few of ours! If you have never ridden, take a trail ride- you will love it, if you have your own horses- you already know...RIDE OFTEN! With portable fencing we can be horse friendly at both properties. Best Regards, Annette K. Cates
Annette Cates purchased this Cabin in 2012
Why Annette Cates chose Luray
I am now the proud owner of the 1947 Rock Tavern Retreat as my late Uncle Abe and late Aunt Lizzie owned, built and tended bar in the original stone tavern for years. ATK & 1947 is still in the stone walls and I am grateful to have the opportunity to get this property back in the family and we ( my daughter Jade and I) look forward to sharing with our guests the awesome history of the Rock Tavern.
What makes this Cabin unique
The 1947 Rock Tavern Retreat offers plenty of space for reconnecting with friends and family, a couples retreat indeed. The master bedroom suite offers a King Bed, an infared modular fireplace along with jacuzzi in master bath, has a private deck entrance and a fabulous view of the beautiful Shenandoah River. The theatre style leather recliners forces you to relax! The original stone shows thru in several rooms and just accents this cabin like no other...it is quite unique!

Clean and and relaxing.
We had a great stay. It was very relaxing, especially the wrap around porch. The owner is also super nice and very helpful.
Thank you for the awesome compliment! I am glad you all enjoyed your stay!
Do come again!
Cute house across the street from the river.
We had a wonderful time!
Thank you! To clarify for future guests. The 1947 Rock Tavern Retreat sits roadside and is across the roadway from the Shenandoah River...within walking distance to our #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp where we are waterfront on the Shenandoah River. When you are guests of my cabin - you also have access to river kamp ---you can come swimming, fishing, or rent our tubes, kayaks or canoes... or simply have a campfire and even grill to the right of our deck (first come first served basis).
The views of the river from cabin are just beautiful in the Fall...with all the colors outlining the banks.
Thank you for sharing your experience and do come again!
Just as pictured!
Thank you Annette for sharing your place with us. It was the perfect spot for our family to gather and Rock Tavern was just as pictured. Thanks for accommodating us with our water fun on the Shenandoah River and your hiking suggestions. The ONLY drawback: the futon was not the most comfortable for an adult to sleep on for two nights.
Thank you for taking time to let others know how your stay was. I will note the not so comfy futon for adults and add another thick mattress futon in time.
So glad you enjoyed the float down the river...
Do come again!
Very clean and cozy home in a great location. I would stay here again!
We had a great time at this cabin! The house had everthing we could need. I liked the fact that both bedrooms had private bathrooms and each bedroom had private access to the deck. We had easy access to the river across the street ( it does have some traffic and no side walks) we also enjoyed kayaking down the river. If you do have animals they will need to be on a leash outside since the yard was not fenced in but the back yard had a large covered patio for them to enjoy. We would definitely stay here again!
Thank you for taking time to share with others your experience.
Do come again and so glad you enjoyed kayaking the Shenandoah River from our
Much needed escape
We absolutely loved it here. The house was CLEAN, fresh linens and towels. Hot tub was amazing. Back patio area was nice to sit and have coffee in the morning at and look for deer. We will be back for sure!
Thank you for a wonderful review and I am so glad you enjoyed your stay!
