When you first arrive at The Homestead, you will be welcomed by sprawling Cottonwood and Elm trees, and the vistas beyond. Its welcoming open floor plan and visiting nooks make it perfect for large gatherings of friends and family, or for a couple looking to get away from it all.The original tiny Homestead was built in the 1920's--with renovations and updates the house is now 2200 sq ft. and boasts 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Features include: accessibility on ground floor, wood stove, gas fireplace and two patio sitting areas.
A modern, fully equipped kitchen and dining area that seats up to 8 people (with ability to offer additional seating) are surrounded by large windows that look out onto the La Plata mountain range to the east. The spacious and private master suite includes a fully accessible bathroom, complete with a very spacious curbless shower. Additional bedrooms include: two bedrooms on the bottom floor with a shared bath, and a loft bedroom upstairs with private bath. Both the living room and the master bedroom have satellite television and the home has hi-speed internet. Additionally, there is a laundry room with large capacity washer and dryer.
The Homestead is conveniently located minutes from town, yet has a very private/rural feel, with horses and cattle grazing in the surrounding pastures as the closest neighbors. Ride your bike or take a walk into town for breakfast or dinner. The Mesa Verde entrance is literally a stone's throw from your front door, and mountain biking/hiking trails are close by. In the winter, the Chicken Creek cross country ski area is within a 15 minute drive, where skiers and snowshoers can enjoy ment miles of wooded groomed trails. Downhill skiing abounds at Purgatory (approx. 50 miles) and Telluride (approx. 80 miles) ski areas. There are also dog sledding opportunities in the area.
For fellow horse folks, we do have the ability to house 2-3 horses. Our location is ideal for accessing nearby mountain trails, where you can ride for a couple of hours or a couple of days! Beat the Arizona heat and enjoy the cooler temperatures of rural Southwest Colorado!
I have lived in the Mancos area since 1990 and initially fell in love with the open spaces, snow capped mountains and all of the outdoor opportunities available! The Homestead is situated on one of the oldest ranches in the Mancos Valley. I think you will fall in love with it, just like I did.
Lynne Howarth purchased this farmhouse in 1992
The Homestead is nestled in the Mancos Valley with breathtaking views of the surrounding cattle and horse ranch, the La Plata Mountain range and Mesa Verde National Park. We are perfectly situated within minutes from town, but private enough that our closest neighbors are cattle and horses! The peaceful setting invites all who enter to relax and unwind, enjoy the amenities and enjoy each other.
We fell in love with the spacious feel of The Homestead. We can enjoy coffee while watching the sun rise over the La Plata mountains in the morning. Then at the end of a fun filled day in the outdoors, sipping a glass of wine while soaking in our western sunsets. Contained within the existing structure is one of the original homesteads of the Mancos Valley from the early 1900's, which naturally peaked our interest in the home. Our home is perfect for large family gatherings or a group of friends traveling together. If you are traveling with your horses, ask us about paddock space--also plenty of room to park trucks and trailers. For those with bikes, kayaks or other outdoor gear, we have a secure spot to store. The Homestead has great indoor/outdoor spaces and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the wonders of Southwest Colorado!
This place was perfect for a very central location to be close to Mesa Verde, Durango, Dolores and the cute little town of Mancos. We happened to be there when the balloon festival was on. Waking up to to see cows, horses, deer jumping over the fences and hot air balloons floating overhead. WOW!!!!! I must admit it was hard leaving my perfect bed, but I had to get up and look outside to see what was happening in the pasture each morning. The recently renovated house was very clean and cozy. The bedrooms were perfectly warm and inviting. Lynn was the best hostess ever. I will be coming to stay here again.
