First time in Chama
Visted Chama for the Cumbres Train. This house was a great location, close to the train station, and restaurants near by. The house was super cute and overall fairly clean. The beds were comfortable and rooms were spacious. We loved the balcony upstairs to hang out and star gaze. All the rooms were upstairs and the stairs were pretty narrow to go up and down with luggage. There was a total of 4 of us and we were very comfortable.

Chama delight
The property was conveniently located so that we could walk to the train and to town. It was full of artifacts, art and history as well as everything you might need for your stay. Communication with the owner was easy and informative. The Chama train was spectacular with the fall foliage. We enjoyed our 2 night stay very much.

I was introduced to Chama, NM when I was working on the Navajo Reservation from 2002-2007. A colleague of mine bought a house in Chama and after I visited once, I fell in love with the area as it was a stark contract to the painted desert, but both provided a variety of outdoor activities in different environments. I bought the home in 2003 and began fixing it up in 2005, and did not finish until 2008, after I had already returned to Massachusetts, where I currently live.

Why they chose this property

This is one of the oldest homes remaining in Chama. It is a gambrel style victorian and was built in 1882. Records indicate that the builder of the home was a conductor of the D&RG railroad. There is more history related to this man and his family located in the home. The house has been completely remodeled, but strong effort was made to keep the details and charm accurate to the era. If you look closely during your stay, you will be able to spot some of the original features of the home.

What makes this property unique

The home is the last home on Terrace Ave/Main St in Chama, with views of the Cumbres Pass from all north windows and the decks. You can catch a glimpse of the train pass by in the morning, as the tracks are directly across the street, and the depot, dining and shopping are all a 4-6 minute walk from the home. There is driveway behind the home that can fit 2 vehicles, and plenty of additional parking behind the garage on Maple St. or along the side of the property on 1st St...enough to easily accommodate 30' trailers/motorhomes but is currently without hookups. It is easily accessible in the Winter, as all town roads are plowed by the state.
