Re-live Cape May's golden age in this ocean-front Victorian 'cottage' built in 1881. If you want to know what summer life was like - for a lucky few, this is the place to be. Ocean views and breezes, high ceilings, massive period furniture, large, airy rooms, an expansive, fully fenced garden, off-street parking for four cars - and much more - make this house truly unique.
Double front porches overlook the ocean in front, and double back porches overlook the large, private garden. There are screened porches on the ground floor, front and rear. The elegant living and dining rooms were made for entertaining. Dine in the antique-furnished dining room, the gazebo and/or the covered pergola in the garden, the screened-in dining porch, the eat-in kitchen, or the brand-new family-room/playroom.
The property provides everything needed for a wide range of life-styles. The classic living and dining rooms are perfect for formal entertaining, but there is plenty of space for just 'hanging out' - on the four large porches front and rear, in the second floor sitting room/TV room, in the new family room/playroom, the screened in gazebo, the covered and paved pergola, the children's playhouse, or anywhere in the large, fully-fenced garden. You can dine formally in the dining room, in the intimate screened dining porch adjacent to the dining room, or in the very large kitchen, the family room/playroom next to it, with a 'pass-through' in between. You can also eat outdoors, in the screened in gazebo or the pergola.
This is the perfect place in Cape May - everything is within easy walking distance - or you can just stay at home and get lots of enjoyment there.
There are seven bedrooms, including two master bedroom suites, one on the second floor and the other on the third floor. Both have unobstructed ocean views and ensuite bathrooms.
Two more bedrooms face the ocean, and three more face the garden. There are six full baths on all four floors. There is a second-floor sitting room with a satellite-TV/DVD.
There is state of the art kitchen, with a Bosch 5-burner gas cook-top, twin GE Monogram ovens, etc., etc., a large table for those who like to eat in the kitchen, and another table in the adjacent, brand-new family-room/playroom, with its handy 'pass-through' to the kitchen.
The large family-room/playroom has a new flat-screen TV connected to the DirectTV satellite, a large, 'professional' foosball game, and a collection of board games, jig-saw puzzles, etc. It is a perfect place for young people to hang out evenings and on (hopefully rare) rainy days.

About the owner: I am in my early 70s. I have loved Franny's Folly since I first started coming here as a babe in arms. It has been our family's gathering place since 1942. We think it is the best house in Cape May - and we aren't the only ones.
Why the Owner Chose Historic District, Cape May, NJ, USA:
This has been our family's summer home since the early days of World War II, because it was one of the few beach resorts that could be reached by train.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Ours is virtually the only remaining large Victorian in Cape May with unobstructed ocean views and a large garden. The location could not be better. The house sits on the highest point in Cape May, and gets breezes from both the Atlantic and Delaware Bay. There are more than 70 windows and 'french' doors to catch every breeze - plus a three-zone air conditioning system if there is no breeze. In addition to being 100 yards from the surf, we are also 100 yards from the Washington Street pedestrian 'mall', with its shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors, grocery store, bakery, etc. Our house was designed by one of America's premier architects, Stephen Decatur Button, who inspired Louis Sullivan, who, in turn, taught Frank Lloyd Wright. We are almost completely surrounded by other fine examples of Victorian architecture - plus, of course - the splendid view of the sea. There is a stand of fine old sycamores behind the house that provides homes to a host of song birds. The house has had, essentially, only two families since it was built. We are lucky to have almost all of the furniture and furnishings that were made for the house. We enjoy parking our car(s) in the driveway in back and just leaving them there. Cape May is ideal for walking and bike riding, and we do a lot of both. In short, we have the best of all worlds- terrific location, a great old house, and all the modern conveniences.
