About Charles Merrill
Both my wife and I were born in Transylvania County. We have recently retired and enjoy travel, family, and volunteering. I served on the Brevard Fire Dept. for almost 40 years and just recently "hung up my fire gear" too. We have two sons and three grandchildren who also live in Brevard. We love Brevard and believe you will too. We'll do everything we can to make your stay a time you'll always remember.
Charles Merrill purchased this House in 1940
Why Charles Merrill chose Catheys Creek
This was my parents' home and I grew up here. In the early 1900s it was home and office to a local dentist. My parents, Riley and Marge, bought it from the Loftis family around 1940. They loved to open it to friends and family and because they loved it, we decided to make it available to visitors to the area. Furnishings include several family antiques including a pump organ once owned by my grandmother, a radio that I remember sitting in front of and listening to old radio programs as a child, and furniture made by my uncle. We live next door so we will be available to help make your stay as pleasant as possible.
What makes this House unique
We are less than a mile from the town square, Brevard Music Center, Camp Illahee, and Keystone Camp. There's plenty of parking along with a locked building for bike and equipment storage and a bike washing station. We can host a large family gathering or a group of friends who just want to explore Brevard and the surrounding area.

Special home in a great community.
We were in Brevard for a wedding and loved staying in My Carolina home. We were greeted with water bottles, bagels and cream cheese in the fridge! Loved the family history.
Perfect large home for a crowd!!
My entire family was in town for my wedding and this house could not have been more perfect!!! Tons of space! Gorgeous setting and so close to the city center! We all enjoyed this gem!
Thank you for your kind words. We loved having you and hope you'll think of us again on your next trip to Brevard.
Weekend in the mountains
We had the best time. Charles was a wonderful host! Pumpkin bread, and fruit awaited us. There were 8 of us up for a music concert and the setting at the house was perfect. We enjoyed the beautiful yard, patio, porches, etc and plenty of space for all. We headed to the cradle of forestry for a great hike. We do want to make this an annual event. Thank you Charles.
Thank you for your kind words. We're glad you had a great weekend. Come again, you're always welcome.

Perfect family getaway!
A perfect location with wonderful owners. They baked us a cake and had fresh flowers for us- above and beyond. Highly recommended for your next family adventure to the NC mountains.
Thank you for your kind words. Please come again!
Perfect house for mountain bikers!
Great "old" farm house! We had 8 mountain bikers stay for two nights and it was perfect. The home made pumpkin bread that awaited us said it all! The bike was was awesome. We will be staying again. Thanks for being such great host. Andy
Thanks for the kind words. It's easy to be a great host to such nice guests. Come again. Charles
Wonderful Old Home
This is a fine old home in a wonderful location. Mr. Merrill lives close by and welcomed us to the home upon our arrival but did not appear again until our departure. All was as represented and the grounds were impeccable. This was essentially a bed and breakfast experience - for those looking to stay in a antiseptic contemporary hotel environment, this is not for you. Nice touches were chilled bottled waters upstairs and downstairs, fresh fruit and homemade baked banana bread available upon arrival. Home had fine quality and powrful central air conditioning, although it was basically unnecessary. Wonderful front porch. Only slight quibble, which is totally understandable given the age of this home, was with the water pressure in the showers, thus the reduction one star. Having said that, our stay was convenient and restful. Would stay here again.
Thank you for your kind words and for your suggestion. I'll get it taken care of before our next guests arrive. Hope to see you again.
Our home is centrally located for attractions in Western North Carolina. Brevard has so much to offer visitors. Our home is less than one mile from Bracken Mountain Preserve, Brevard Music Center, Brevard College and summer camps. The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute is less than one hour away and plans are underway to view the eclipse this summer. We are just an hour from Cherokee, NC with Harrah's Casino; Tryon, NC and the Tryon International Equestrian Center; Asheville, NC with its eclectic social scene, "Beer City" atmosphere and Biltmore House; and Hendersonville with Flat Rock Playhouse and the Carl Sandburg home. There are over 22 golf courses within an hour's drive and hundreds of miles of mountain biking trails in Pisgah National Forest and DuPont State Forest. There are over 250 waterfalls in the area including Whitewater Falls, the highest waterfall in the eastern US. You can float the French Broad River, ride horses in the forest, go rock climbing, enjoy Sliding Rock, or just explore the mountains. Our home is in the middle of it all. Come and enjoy!
