SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER DATES STILL AVAILABLE! Please check availability on our calendar before inquiring about dates.

Please read our full listing before sending a reservation request.

Yosemite West is inside Yosemite National Park. It is a 25-35 minutes drive to Yosemite Valley attractions, 30 minutes to Glacier Point and 30 minutes to Mariposa Grove and Wawona. This is also the closest lodging for Badger Pass Ski Area, with downhill and cross country skiing and snowshoeing - only eight miles away from your door.

This Yosemite West home is located close to the Glacier Point Road, so you are very close to Taft Point and Glacier Point, the most spectacular views of Yosemite Valley.

This house sleeps a maximum of 8-10 people. We cannot accommodate more than 10 guests.

Minimum age of primary renter: 25.

The Hummingbird Raven House has a spacious deck high in the trees which is a wonderful place to eat dinner and enjoy the sunset.

Please note that our house has a spiral staircase which may be difficult for elderly folks and small children. Our other Yosemite West vacation home, the Hummingbird Pines House (VRBO 470093) is more suited to elderly guests as it has only 2 steps into the house and bedrooms on the ground floor.

INTERNET AND CELL SERVICE: Please note that we do not have wifi, because trees around the house block satellite reception from the South sky. There is also no cell service in Yosemite West. Cell service is spotty in Yosemite Valley. There is paid wifi available in Yosemite Valley.

Minimum stay of 2 nights.

Up to 2 children under age 3 stay free, 10% discount on one week stays. (Please let us know if any of your children are aged 3 and under when you fill out the inquiry form.)

We accept dogs on a case by case basis. We do not automatically accept all dogs. We only accept dogs who are not left unattended in the house or on the deck. There is also a fee and a non-refundable pet deposit required.

The master bedroom has a king size bed and a half bath. Upstairs are two additional bedrooms, with a queen size bed and four bunks. All beds have down comforters and pillows. A convertible sofa-bed in the office sleeps 1 to 2 more guests. Note: we cannot accommodate more than 10 guests at a time.

This house is equipped with a full kitchen and a large dining table. There is a bbq and dining furniture on the deck, which is a wonderful place to enjoy dinner and watch the sunset.

Like most homes in Yosemite West, the Hummingbird Raven House does not have air conditioning. We do have individual room fans. Our location is 6,000 feet of elevation, so generally remains cooler than Yosemite Valley.

About Michelle and Peter

Peter and Michelle

We have visited and loved Yosemite for many years, and are thrilled to have vacation rental homes in the park. We love Yosemite for hiking, climbing, snow shoeing, wildlife viewing and spending time in nature. Please feel free to email us with questions!

Michelle and Peter purchased this house in 2010

Why Michelle and Peter chose California

Hummingbird Raven is in the park, but outside the bustle of Yosemite Valley so it is quiet and peaceful. This house is ideal for groups of family and friends who want a nice house to come back to after a long day of adventure

What makes this house unique

Yosemite West is inside the Park boundaries, so it's a perfect location to enjoy Yosemite (20 minutes to Yosemite Valley and Glacier Point, and close to various trailheads). It has the advantage of being very close to the Badger Pass ski area, and being at a higher elevation than the Valley, which keeps the temperatures more comfortable in the summer months.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for letting us stay in your home. The house was wonderful and we loved staying inside the park. Easy access to the Valley! The kitchen was great to cook in with all utensils. We loved dinners on the deck with sunset view. Deer spotting a bonus!

What a beautiful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for us! There were only four of us, so plenty of extra room. The view from the back deck as we used the BBQ was awesome. I highly recommend this cabin for your Yosemite trip. 20-30 minutes from all the main trail heads.

Loved the Hummingbird Raven House!

  • 5 of 5

This house is in a great location, and was perfect for our family of 5. It's about a 35 minute drive to Yosemite Valley. The house has no wifi, but lots of movies and games to play. Our teenagers adjusted to being offline! We ate on the lovely deck most nights. We would stay here again. Thanks Peter and Michelle!

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was in a perfect location for exploring Yosemite. It was only a 15-20 minute drive to tunnel view and about 30-40 min drive from the valley. The deck had a beautiful view of the forest. The cabin had everything that we needed as we were able to cook dinner and enjoy watching a few DVDs after a long day of driving or exploring. The location in the park is what makes this cabin worth the money. It was only a mile away from highway 120 and we were able to drive out to glacier point to check out the sunset. Overall, it was a great place to stay and visit.

The only things I would be wary about or improve were:

1. The spiral staircase was not accessible for my dad who has Parkinson's. It wasn't a big deal because we were able to take him around the outside to enter downstairs from the deck. My toddler also kept trying to climb the stairs, so a baby gate would have been helpful.

2. If you're a neat freak this place probably isn't for you. The carpets are in desperate need of a deep cleaning or just to be ripped out and replaced altogether. I found bits of granola bar on the floor when we got there, which makes me wonder if they vacuumed before we got there. The dining room table was sticky even after wiping it down a few times. I am guessing the table is old and the finish was making it that way.

3. No wifi, not a huge deal unless you are looking to book some of the tour services in the valley. A lot of those require wifi, so be sure to book them in advance because you won't get a signal anywhere on the property.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us, and for your review. We wish we would have known that your father is elderly and has Parkinson's, as we would have directed you to our other Yosemite West house, the Hummingbird Pines House, which is more appropriate for elderly guests and toddlers (we've had our 92 year old aunt stay there). We say the following in our listing, because we don't want any guests to have problems: "Please note that our house has a spiral staircase which may be difficult for elderly folks and small children. Our other Yosemite West vacation home, the Hummingbird Pines House (VRBO 470093) is more suited to elderly guests as it has only 2 steps into the house and bedrooms on the ground floor." We steamed cleaned the carpets at the beginning of the vacation season. Our housekeepers do their best to try and maintain the house during the very busy summer season when we have back to back guests.

Good location; needs serious TLC however..

  • 3 of 5

This is a good option to stay inside Yosemite so you don't have to come in the main gate every day, if you can't stay in one of the lodges (or would rather avoid their crowds). The house is about 25 min from the village and very close to Glacier Point road, and is in a quiet setting with a nice forest view. Since there is no tv service or cell/wifi , they do have a nice collection of DVDs (that we even added to, leaving "Escape from Alcatraz.").

That said, one must be ok with downsides of this house. First, the downstairs 1/2 bath in the master has a toilet room without a door, only a curtain; this is strange enough that it should be noted in the listing. Second, the place needs some serious updating and deep cleaning. The carpet is stained and worn with several carpet nails popping through in areas (I just missed impaling myself near the kitchen), dining table needs a scrubbing to remove the built up stickiness, the grill is not functional (missing knob, igniter broken, and when tried using a lighter, flames shot out from under knobs), deck needs refinishing and cleaning (debris all over it), walls need damage repair and painting, master bedroom mattress old, no light in shower, one functional fan (they did have a second delivered but third bedroom very hot in 90+ degrees), old "pilling" sheets, refrigerator not cooling properly unless on highest setting, etc. Some care and renovating would really improve the house. Still, for the above reasons, it's a decent option in Yosemite as long as you have realistic expectations. A house phone for local or emergency calls only (since you can't use a cell) would be a good safety measure. Apparently one can purchase some sort of phone credit card to use with their phone. A few dollars more on the house rental and a functional local phone would be a better and safer choice.

The owners were very nice with responding to emails, however the above issues should ideally be addressed, unless made clear in description. We stayed in 4 VRBO's on our trip, and the others had no issues at all, and gave 5 star reviews for them; with some nice TLC, this place could be quite wonderful.

Owner's Response: We agree that staying within the park allows our guests to maximize their enjoyment of the park and stay in a safe quiet community. Our housekeepers made an extra effort to accommodate the very significant number of requests you made during your stay and to them we are very grateful. They informed us that the barbecue was functional, but they did have trouble lighting it and so provided a barbecue lighter to help. To avoid any future problems the barbecue has been replaced and similarly we have made more fans available. As a follow-up, we are reviewing the other items you mention. The three emails we received the morning of check-out, including the option to respond to a draft of your review, struck as peculiar and something we have not previously encountered.

Meh!

  • 2 of 5

I've rented probably a dozen or more times through VRBO & this was by far my biggest disappointment. It was a great location to park. Unfortunately it was incredibly hot & with no AC, it was so uncomfortable. The property had only 2 fans & so my adult sons had to share a room for a fan. The grill is in bad condition and one burner not working but we had to use because it was too hot to cook inside and then no spatula but 20 wooden spoons. None of which make it easy to flip a burger! I understand that owners can't control the weather but it could have been a better stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate you were disappointed with some aspects of our home. The grill - to the best of our knowledge - was fine, but we are going to immediately make a trip to the house and see if it needs replacing. Similarly, there should be plenty of barbecue supplies; if they have gone we will replace them. Regarding the heat, ours as with most Yosemite West houses, does not have AC. We understood there were plenty of fans in the home; we'll make an effort to get replacements and spares in place. It is unfortunate that you didn't contact us regarding these issues - we probably could have had our housekeepers assist and so minimize any inconvenience.

Wonderful cabin in Yosemite West!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at the Hummingbird Raven house was absolutely outstanding! This was my parents first trip to Yosemite, and the cabin was easily accessible, clean and comfortable, and a perfect distance from the Valley floor. I highly recommend these accommodations.
