This is the second summer in a row we have rented this house, and the third summer we have rented from the owner (they have another property nearby).
Our stay this year was even better than the first time around. The house has had renovations done both outside and inside - making a nice place even better. We where two families each with a five year old kid.
The house has all amenities one can expect, including washing machines, two bathrooms, shower outside, internet, satellite tv, great bedrooms and more (one can hear the waves at night time...).
Since we last stayed, the house has added a deck on both front and back of the house. We love night sky with shining stars, ocean breeze and sound of waves.
The house has a perfect location, only a minute walk away from a little beach located in a bay. This is the perfect beach for kids. The water is warmer and the big difference between high and low tide allows for some amazing hermit crab and red crab hunting. This beach is also the perfect place to enjoy the sunset and a beverage of choice.
About 10 min walk away is Pemaquid Beac. This is a long sandy beach with plenty of waves that is perfect for both adults and kids. The beach has a little fast food place and one can also rent beach toys etc.
In the area overall, there are plenty of 'crab shacks', ice cream parlors and opportunities for day trips (seal cruises, puffin cruises etc). Obviously good lobster meals are easy to find. About 5 minutes walk away from the house is Fort William Henry. This is a historic 17th century site and my son loved exploring the site and run around. There is also a local restaurant located next to the fort called "The Contended Sole. This has an excellent deck to enjoy sunset and a meal or a cold beverage.
The house is about 1.5 hours north of Portland, Maine. This is a beautiful city with plenty of dining opportunities. We love to sit down by the docs and listen to live music and enjoy fresh seafood. For those who like to shop, Freeport Outlet Center (LL Bean HQ) is located on the way to the house from Portland.
As I mentioned above, this is our third time renting from the owners. We actually had an 11 hour drive to get there - and it is well worth it. We would do it again.
