Private Homes, Canyon Country Club villa description
From the moment you walk in the door of this romantic property - and take in its nearly entire back walls of glass fronting on the breathtaking blue pool, mountains and lush landscaping - you will know you have found a special oasis. Total privacy of the large, walled-in backyard of bougainvillea, tall grasses, and grapefruit-laden trees begs for skinny dipping in the 40 foot by 20 foot swimmer’s pool and jacuzzi spa - all while taking in the spectacular mountains surrounding this Canyon Country Club location. It is a tranquil paradise with no other houses in sight -- but still just a two block walk to the best grocery in town, as well as restaurants, PO, hiking trails, tennis and of course, golf. Unlike many other desert rentals, the pool/jacuzzi and backyard are huge -- with outdoor living and dining rooms and plenty of chaise lounges for sunning. Bring your IPOD to hook up to the whole house/poolside stereo system. And chefs will adore the gourmet kitchen with top appliances, granite countertops and islands for the crew to hang out, plus everything you need from Cuisinart and blenders to nice dishware, martini, wine and champagne glasses, and everything else you might need.
Just listen to the raves from past guests.
"This is the best vacation home we have stayed at in years - the property is perfect and has everything you might need," said Trent Vernon.
Wrote David E., "As local Socal travel agents we have had the opportunity to stay in many Palm Springs Rentals. This property tops the list! From the steamroom to the spa, from the pro-BBQ to the state of the art subzero kitchen, you will not go wrong here - even better than the pictures show! New upscale designer style Ralphs Grocery just opened a block away. I could go on and on, the privacy is superb yet still very safe just the same. Even your pool man says it is a pleasure to service a house with state of the art equipment! Your property gets 2 thumbs up - WAY UP!!! and a full 5 Stars ***** (see more in guest book)
It's not only an exquisite place, it's fun - with lots of extras, from rafts, dvds, games spices and lots more provided gratis.
This vacation home features three bedrooms (Master has one king and one single; Guest Rm 1 has one queen; Guest Rm 2 has two full (double beds sleeping 2 each; plus a day bed in living area, two queen air mattresses w/feather tops, 3 single futons). Two and a half baths, plus office - all with panoramic mountain or pool/lush garden views, plus for those who cannot tear themselves away from work, an office with free DSL/wifi, answering machine and wireless access and free, unlimited domestic phone calls.
But it has much larger living and outdoor areas than most other homes, particularly Alexanders, that might have more bedrooms. At nearly 3000 square foot, the house has soaring ceilings and is flooded with natural light. It provides plenty of space and furnishings for relaxing together with friends/family or getting away by oneself to read a book - outside in the double-hammock or any of 10 sun loungers around the pool, or while sipping wine and relaxing on the covered outdoor living room with cushioned couch, chairs and lamps.
Or repair to the living room inside and stretch out on the comfy L-shaped couch to watch football, cable/HBO or a DVD/VCR movie on the 42 inch HDTV plasma wall-mounted television while the (gas) fire roars or on the 42 inch' Projection TV/DVD/VCR in the Master Bedroom, and tvs in guest rooms.
The contemporary, 1974 house was entirely refurbished in 2003 by Los Angeles designer Daniel J. Ricketts for his own use and is accented by Asian antiques, artwork and rugs collected by the owner from her travels as a foreign correspondent throughout the world.
Every detail has been thought of in this dreamy getaway. In the gourmet kitchen - a cook/entertainer's delight - one can stir the risotto in the Calphalon pots on the five-burner Thermador stovetop, bake in the double ovens, keep dishes warm in the warming tray, then tuck them away in the ultra-quiet Bosch dishwasher all while never losing site of the magical backyard views. Groceries load easily into the huge Subzero refrigerator, minimizing trips to the food store. Friends or family can perch on the stools surrounding the cook’s island while the chef does his or her thing, using spices and other condiments the owner stocks for guest use.
Move to the adjacent wet-bar - with its wine cooler and refrigerator - for martinis or margaritas and then into the glassed dining room with ample room for eight at the table, gazing out at the stunning evening stars and the illuminated pool. Or cook outdoors on the large built-in gas grill and dine al fresco - poolside - at the outside table for eight. Or dispense with the cooking and drive five minutes to dozens of restaurants in downtown Palm Springs.
Stereo music/radio/CDs AND IPODs can be piped throughout the house and pool area’s Polk Audio and Niles speakers (so bring your favorite CDs & your Ipod, which easily hooks up). Each of the three bedrooms has its own cable-connected television, two with DVDS and the MBR a huge projection theater system. Glass doors on the huge master suite open onto the pool/mountain views. The beautiful beige Portuguese limestone that lines the floors throughout the house also covers the sumptuous master bath that features a sunken tub with an adjoining private garden and steam shower along with a granite-topped double-vanity.
Down duvets and pillows (hypo-allergenic bedding also available) and 400-thread count sheets top the king bed in this room and the queen bed in each of the other two bedrooms that feature mountain views and share an elegant bath with double sinks, granite countertops, and limestone tiled bath/shower.
Stay in touch via the granite-topped office with free dsl and domestic phone calls - never losing sight of the mtns and pool.

Wow, What a Stunning & Serene Oasis....
Wow, What a Stunning & Serene Oasis....
After a long drive from Mexico, we found this spacious, well appointed Palm Springs villa an oasis. Comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen -- a place to tuck our loaded car. I highly recommend this gorgeous retreat. The pool and hot tub are wonderfully rejuvenating. There's nothing to not like about this house.

Extraordinary home in every way!
Extraordinary home in every way!
I has the pleasure of staying in this home for two days and I am already wanting to go back to spend more leisure time there in this superlative home. The outdoor space is lovesly and offers total relaxation: from dining outside on the comfortable tables and chairs, to swimming pool and hot tub, at perfect temperatures, both night and day. The beds are comfortable; the kitchen spacious with every tool and convenience desired; the living room great for lounging and reading. The only thing missing were aging movie stars to talk to but they could probably be found by knocking on nearby doors. However, I prefer to stay home and watch old movies and imagine their lives in this loveliest of homes in the desert of Palm Springs!

Wonderful Experience in Palm Springs
Wonderful Experience in Palm Springs
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in December 2012! The house is bright and cozy, the beds are clean and comfortable, and we liked waking up to eat breakfast outside under the covered the poolside terrace. The last place we stayed in PS did not have nearly as nice a view of the mountains, and here we picked some fresh oranges and grapefruits from the trees in the backyard. Also, the pool is gorgeous and the hot tub heat up very quickly. I recommend this modern rental if you are looking for a genuine, relaxing Palm Springs experience.

Owner response: So glad you enjoyed your stay, Matthew, and love the house as much as we do.
We stayed in this unti for a week in November. Generally it was very disappointing given the money that we had paid. The interior was very worn, messy and dirty. The rugs were threadbare and dirtyThe windows were not clean and the house smelled very musty. There was so much junk on the all of the cupboards, drawers and slosets that we virtually lived out of our suitcase. The dishes were dirty and we had to clean everything before use. The garage is unusable as it was so packed with stuff. Although the pool itself is nice, the patio furniture is old, rusty and torn. Generally this property needs a big cleanup and an update. The condition of the property detracted from our holiday and needs some real attention in order to make it a welcome and usable space. We e-mailed the owner with our concerns and received absolutely no response.

Owner response: We believe this rating is very unfair and misleading and we hope it will not deter future guests, who can see its sharp contrast with other guests’ reviews. This reviewer had no complaints during their stay. In fact, the only times they contacted us while there were as follows: 1) upon arrival, asking how to increase the water temp in the kitchen sink (easily explained and done)and 2) to ask my property manager to deliver another bottle of dishwashing liquid to replenish the complementary full one we had provided, part of the many starter household supplies we furnish on arrival. Never mind that she also had a dishwasher and a full box of complementary detergent we’d furnished. She apparently took offense when told more was available at the store 2 blocks away. That didn't stop her from rustled through the owner storage area to hunt down additional rolls of free paper towels! She must have wondered where the chambermaid was. Only after they departed did she complain, including that she had to search for more paper towels! Since they'd left already, there was nothing I could do about her allegations. Should I have tried to explain that the carpet (which is only in the bedrooms) – is Berber, which by its nature doesn’t have pile? Should I have explained that many of our guests appreciate the many extras taking up at most half of the huge bedroom closets– rollaway, portable crib, extra bedding, games etc? And then inquired why the remaining clear space – at least four feet x 9 feet in each bedroom closet, coupled with empty chests of drawers--wasn’t enough for their weeklong stay? I’m most bothered by her thoroughly false claim that the house is dirty. The house is deep cleaned between each visit by professional housekeepers.I see to this personally because, as an experienced traveler who has lived all over the world, I never want to stay in a place less than immaculate. I expect no less for my guests. I am reminded of the quote, “You can please some of the people all of the time. You can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.” I suspected her motives when she wrote to me–only after departure-and I see her review as a kind of payback for not discounting further their already deeply discounted low period rate. Fortunately, it warms my heart that so many of our guests appreciate the home and all the extras we provide and have returned often. We hope you will become a regular too!
Fantastic Desert Oasis with great pool and location.
Fantastic Desert Oasis with great pool and location.
Our family loved this house - wonderful pool, jacuzzi and views - and a perfect escape from the Canadian winter. It's spacious, with a kitchen to die for, and all the comforts of home. We loved that the furnishings were not only hip and snazzy, but very comfortable. The home is perfectly located - a quiet oasis with fantastic mountain views, but just a short walk to lots of stores and restaurants. We'll be back soon!

We absolutely loved the house. We loved the surround sound throughout the entire home. The location was perfect . We were able to walk to the grocery store and it only took me 5 minutes to get to the airport. My wife and I both loved the decor. I would love to rent it again the next time I'm in Palm Springs.

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I had returned from several years abroad as a foreign correspondent. Our friends - a top LA realtor and a lawyer-turned designer--owned this house, and we stayed several times and fell in love with it. We liked it so much, we looked at probably 150 houses in Palm Springs hoping to find one that compared, but none came close to matching what it had --its panoramic mountain views, huge pool/spa, and backyard with living and dining areas, gourmet kitchen with miles of granite, office that is private enough to work but still has great views and isn't closed off, plus its fantastic location -- tranquil and completely private, but just a two block walk to the best grocery store in town and lots of restaurants and shops. When to our surprise, our friends decided to sell in 2004, they called us and we jumped at the chance to buy this lovely getaway, and to give others the chance to enjoy it too.
