  Being a frequent traveler I have experienced many disappointments in vacation rentals, some little, some not so little. There are no disappointments at Island Cottage. It is everything it promises - even more. Not only was the cottage absolutely pristine when I arrived, everything you could possibly need was there exactly where it should be, without that over-crowded feeling of “stuff”. The colors are cheerful, the artwork delightfully “happy” and “fun”. The photos shown on this site are accurate but do not capture the pleasing feeling that comes with the cottage, making it even more wonderful than what you see in the pics. The view cannot be avoided (if you would want to do such a thing), no matter where you stand or where you sit - and it can’t be avoided when you first open your eyes in the early morning; you don’t even have to lift your head from the pillow, just open your eyes and there it is - the blue green Caribbean Sea, haze of mountains in the distance. What I want to describe most of all, I just can’t seem to find words for … I, supposedly a writer, am having a tough time coming up with them. It’s a spiritual thing, a sense of peace and calm that stayed with me the entire time. Though the depth of what I experienced lacks in these words, the least I can do is tell you, there’s a whole lot of good at Island Cottage.

  Arrived in breathtaking Coral Bay of St. John on the eve of a Full Moon illuminating across the sweet little cove flanked by mountains sloping into the ocean. By day you encounter protected groups of goats, sheep, donkeys and chickens casually crossing your road. From the Island Cottage porch, amazing views across the mountain side and looking onto the bay, with either sun rising or splash of starlight across your skies, a most spectacular and renewing sight. A friendly, laid back community of artists and intimate restaurants awaits you nearby with a short walk, or drive. The cottage celebrates color and spaciousness and comfortable functionality - it's a beauty. An uncrowded peaceful atmosphere surrounds you in your explorations to Cruz Bay, or hikes or to visit any of the numerous lovely beaches. Recommend "Pickles" a close by restaurant for light inexpensive dining, and also a place the locals drop in, to read, visit, or watch CNN on the tv; "Lucy's" for unforgettable dining a few feet from the water nesting right on a cove; "Uncle Jo's Barbeque" in Cruz Bay for no-nonsense non-greasy and delicious cuisine; Connections in Coral Bay by the firestation to use the computer if need to check in on life you left behind; Salt Pond Bay - gorgeous and beautiful little beach with mangrove shade if desired and you can wander over to a beach flanked on the other side; snorkeling excursions. The cottage has a splendid array of information about St. John and Coral Bay, historical to educational to recreational, and especially the delightful journal entries by all of the previous guests who freely share their discoveries. Island Cottage bedroom has canopy bed and is very comfortable. If driving, be prepared to experience a tiny bit of culture shock with the rolling hills but one gets quickly used to it. Sparkling blue water, blue skies, heavenly stars, lovely cottage with private sit and watch the hummingbirds garden, beautiful plants and landscaping on the porch and draping over the house and paths, don't miss it...!!!

  What can I say... The cottage was private, clean, and beautiful. It could not have been better. I suggest when you stay thet you visit Reggie's BBQ at the bottom of the hill. It doesn't look like much but the food is great and John and Reggie could not be nicer. Pebbles(the neighbor's dog) was sweet and would stop by for her morning buscuit.Thank you for inviting us into your home! We will back again next year! Joan and Andrew

  This was our third stay at Island Cottage in the last four years and we appreciate it more and more each time we visit St John. The house has an excellent design that incorporates open space in the living area with an expansive deck overlooking Coral Bay. Sometimes it's difficult to actually leave the house in the morning to go to the beach or explore the island. We love simply relaxing on the deck, taking in the sunrise, drinking coffee and reading. The location is perfect, far enough up the hill to be private, yet close enough to walk down into Coral Bay. We're already planning to rerturn for a fourth time.

  My two college-age daughters and I had the PERFECT vacation. Island Cottage is so clean, cozy and a spectacular view. Loved the secluded outdoor shower after a day at the beach. It was so helpful to have the tips for restaurants and beaches in the cottage. Water toys - floating rafts, beach chairs, noodles were great. Very convenient location - could easily walk into town and to restaurants. Drive to the beaches was only 15-20 minutes. Super quiet and peaceful. So nice to be away from the hotels and more touristy west side of the island!

  My husband & I spent our honeymoon at Island Cottage in October 2009. It was the perfect size and very convenient to all the local attractions. It had everything we needed and more. We absolutely loved St. John & in particular the Coral Bay side, in fact, we didn't leave Coral Bay once we got there to go back to Cruz Bay! Beautiful beaches, clear water, awesome snorkeling, and just the right amount of other people around - there were people so you didn't feel deserted but not enough that you couldn't have privacy. We are trying to figure out when we can come back!
