This unit is well known locally as 'Top of the World!' It is regarded as one of the world's greatest surf-view decks. Newly remodeled, this Penthouse unit features a spectacular, all glass, insulated view room with two trundle beds for heavenly whitewater sleeping.
The walk is two short blocks down to the beach and pier. Seals can be heard and observed from the deck telescope daily. The best surfing on the west coast of California is just down the stairs and close-by.

Jerry has two units that he rents off this site. We were placed in the bottom unit, not what our original booking was for. It was not updated and not as the pictures show. Renter beware! One toilet had a very hard time flushing and draining. Both bathrooms show signs of water damage. The kitchen, I believe, is original to the unit and the appliances are barely working. The refrigerator rocks back and forth and the door does not shut well...leaving food to spoil. Upon arrival we noticed paint from the bedroom ceiling had fallen on the carpets. When I pointed this out to Jerry he said housekeeping must have missed it (not easy to miss). The next day the same spot started dripping and a stream of water began to fall from the ceiling, soaking the carpet. We had to place a cooking pot on the floor to catch the water. We immediately tried to contact Jerry. He NEVER returned our phone calls. We tried going to the rental office and was told he was golfing and couldn't be contacted. Later that evening we returned to the condo and found a note saying the problem had been fixed. No notice that he was sending someone into the unit, where all of our belongings were. No phone call to acknowledge our concerns. The problem was not fixed, just patched. I can tell the leaking ceiling has happened several times with no permanent solution. My guess is mold is in the bedrooms because of the reoccurrence of this problem and the fact that several members of my group had to sleep out in the living room because they were experiencing allergies due to the water problem. The only positive about the condo is the location. It did have a great view of the ocean. But, the location was not worth the conditions of the condo. I would never rent from this site again. It is misleading and a disaster. Jerry never tried to make our stay more comfortable. He ignored us and the issues we tried bringing to his attention. DO NOT RENT THESE UNITS!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway.
Owner response: NO longer is this unit available for emergency rental, as it was scheduled for remodeling as a separate unit where the owner lives - as it always has been. I told them it would be better for these lone women not to come and party but they insisted. No more party drinkers - families are much better here.

Amazing property, exactly as depicted in the photos! Jerry is extremely helpful and friendly. My family, including two teenagers, stayed for our spring break and had a great time. It is a quick walk to the beach and pier and a wonderful trail for running, walking or bike riding. Jerry provides bikes, kayaks, scooters, beach toys, surf boards...everything you need for fun at the beach. In addition there are a variety of games in the house and a fire pit on the deck for roasting marshmellows while watching the sunset, which is amazing from the expansive deck. I would defintely recommend this property and we will definitely be back. Thanks Jerry!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

I have been to lots of places,all over the world and this place was just a beauty.My wife and kids with some of there friends in tow,for a weekend birthday party. The owner was a caring individual who went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable.Clean,clean and very neat with washer and dryer and lots of games and bicycles,surfboards,boogey boards and a couple of kayaks. The owner even came down to the beach and gave me and my son some lessons on Ocean kayaking,it was GREAT ! The view from the Penthouse was breathtaking. The price was affordable and fair,In my own opinion" it was a steal" and would go again and again,made lots of wonderful memories.....Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

In the East, we have warm oceans... In the West you have ' the waves' ! Wow! The view! The town, the people, the weather... all add up to total nirvana. We have been her for a month... and it just isn't enough! A special thanks to Maryann and Jerry for all their hospitality and the fun we had together. And... we even fixed the old long board and I even used it ... at "Old Mans"... quite fitting I suppose. I know we have all had the best time and.... We will be back!Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: The Surfview Top of the World owner is a past San Clemente Veteran of Foreign Wars commander and current Service Officer. He is an active volunteer in the community as a certified EMT, Neighborhood watchperson, Senior Center volunteer, and former Boy Scouts of America adult leader. He is a member of the San Clemente Downtown Business Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the San Clemente Men's golf association. Jerry Quinlan is not an expert surfer, though, he can be found kayaking regularly around Seal Rock, to the south, or, every so often, swimmming around the pier. He can be recognized on photo #16, with his daughter, Elizabeth, on the top deck at the 'TOP OF THE WORLD' SURFVIEW PENTHOUSE.
