The Highlands -Charming 11 Acre Estate:Century Home & Pavilion
- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This secluded 11.5 acre family estate is the perfect vacation spot for a family reunion, group of friends, corporate retreat or a wedding. With an abundance of charm, character, and treasures, this piece of Prince Edward Island history will leave guests with many cherished memories. The sandy beach at the end of the lane offers great swimming at high tide and clam digging and beachcombing at lower tides. The Confederation Trail for walking and biking runs along the old rail line that used to bring guests to The Highlands when it was a hotel (1930-1940).
There is fabulous golfing within a five-minute drive. Brudenell Resort includes Brudenell and Dundarave (two 18-hole championship golf courses), as well as horseback riding, kayaking, tennis, lawn bowling, dining facilities, and a spa.
The century home contains nine bedrooms (eight with their own sink) on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The first floor has a formal living and dining room, breakfast room, den, kitchen, pantry, and laundry/power room. There is plenty of everything needed for entertaining our guests.
The 1930's dance pavilion is adjacent to the house, and was built when the property became a hotel. Guests would travel by train, car, and horse to The Highlands -- to the dances that were held there. Two room-length balconies are perched over the plank dance floor; and a ping-pong table and basketball net are available for recreation in the Pavilion. The Pavilion also has a powder room, kitchen with sink, propane stove, fridge, and a barbecue. It is a wonderful place to eat or relax in the many comfortable chairs and couches -- enjoying the beautiful weather from the veranda or a warming fire inside.
Weddings: The property is a tried and true amazing location for a wedding! We will be happy to discuss this with you.

Beautiful is the first word that comes to mind. We were 4 generations of family, some coming from as far away as BC, finally able to all get together at one time and wanted somewhere special to celebrate our mothers 80th birthday and we found it!! From ages 1 to 80 everyone had a great time. The house, the history, the grounds, the pavilion all so beautiful and spacious.....finding it hard to come up with just the right words to describe it. The dining room was so large we could all sit and eat at the same table, the rooms all so beautiful and the pavilion (the best).....our own private karaoke bar.....games room.....dance hall....ice cream socials on the covered veranda while swinging on the hanging seats....ghost stories one stormy night, by a crackling fire and candle light. Like someone in an earlier review said....."if those walls could talk!" With out a doubt the BEST spot for a family reunion. Only regret is that we couldnt stay longer...but we'll be back next time we're all together...it won't be, "where we going this time?", it will be,"Don't forget to book The Highlands". Thank you Sandra for sharing this little piece of heaven so that we could make memories that will last a lifetime.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We couldn't have dreamed for a better wedding day! The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the pavilion was decorated perfectly. There were rave reviews all around and everyone of our guests had a fantastic time . . . our wedding day was as whimsical and joyous as we could have hoped for!!!Did you find this review helpful? Just wanted to let you know what a great weekend we had at The Highlands. The house was perfect. The dance pavilion was a hit - the kids loved having their own place to get away although we adults did invade the space each night for our "dance"(which of course mortified the teens!!) We had a great football game on the lawn and a long bike ride on the trail. A golf game at Brudenell, jumping off the bridge at Basin Head, and an outdoor Great Big Sea concert in Charlottetown topped it all off.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We had a wonderful time at The Highlands and really appreciate the whole experience here over the last few days. Not only was our wedding a beautiful event set in a captivating setting, but our family was able to share special moments over the time relaxing here. It is hard to imagine any place like The Highlands where we could have biked, played soccer, played volleyball, swam at the beach, and danced in the Pavilion, and many more great events. But most important, where we could all be together. Thanks so much for everything. It was truly on of the best experiences in our life.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

WASN’T THAT A PARTY!! DANCED IN THE Pavilion, enjoyed the oceanview from the deck! Loved the walk down the lane! Your recommended chef was awesome! What a phenomenal place . . . We will have fond memories of this holiday for years to come. What a wonderful haven. We have had 5 days of fun, laughter, good food, great fellowship in an amazing house & Island. Thank you for sharing this paradise with us. Your “palace” just took our breath away. Everytime I looked I saw something new – awesome décor in this charming piece of history. Of course, the dance hall was my favourite! Oh, if those walls could talk!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We had a FABULOUS time . . . it really was like living in a bubble. …we successfully clammed for 2 days for steamers and chowder. The dogs thought it was fantastic that we all finally found the beautiful joy of DIGGING!! Our two little boys had a great time exploring toys, magazines, books and all other manner of hidden treasures. I my self could spend hours looking through the diverse strata of reading material. We hope to be back again in the summers to come!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our wedding day . . at The Highlands was wonderful! As the bride, I got dressed in a beautiful room and them had pictures with my family in the living room. I met my groom on the field at the end of the road and we were married with the sounds of birds & waves and the sites of boats. We had pictures on the beach, our guests enjoyed appetizers and drinks on the veranda of the Pavilion. After a buffet dinner in the Pavilion, musicians joined us. Everything was perfect and we couldn’t have asked for a better location. 48 guests were all seated in the Pavilion for dinner.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3
