After 30 years of marriage, 2 grown children, a love of travel to new and different locations whenever the possibility arises, we have found our ideal spot to which we hope to often return. The Point House was not only steps away from world-renowned Sunset Beach, but had lovely coconut trees and landscaping to provide a very comfortable sitting and viewing area above the beach, providing excellent views of tow-in surfing and whales migrating. And inside the house itself gave a panoramic view of the entire beach as well, with windows spread across 2 entire walls. The high ceilings and iconic, fun artwork added great whimsy to this CLASSIC and historic property. Being 45 min.-1.5 hr away from Honolulu (depending on traffic, destination, etc.), we were able to easily visit Pearl Harbor, Dole, museums, botanical gardens, cultural highlights as well as spend plenty of quiet reflective time on this very private section of beach. And a short stroll along the beach or simple bike ride along a marvelous shaded bike/walking-path lent views of the world of top-ranked surfers performing skills on unbelievable 20+ foot waves on a couple of big wave days when the reefs were "working", at Bonzai Pipeline, Waimea, et.al.. Fun to see all the professional photographers with 2 ft lenses vying for that one great cover shot. Yet there were calm days that we were able to snorkel in protected areas with huge sea turtles and calmly enjoy a morning or sunset dip. We laughed at families with little ones in protected pools and building sand castles on the beach. Mahalo, Linda, for this incredibly memorable week. My only regret is not having more time to spend with you, my friend. Your gentle personality and exceptional skill as a Hawaiian Lomi Lomi therapist were the icing on the cake for the most enjoyable vacation ever!! Until next time . . . . Aloha, from Virginia, children joining from Chicago and New ZealandRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are flattered by your comments and hope every one who stays at Point House has as wonderful a time. It is part of the joy of doing these rentals is providing people with a special time especially for family reunions.

Thank you to Mike, we could feel his caring about how we like the house and how comfortable we were in his house ; we really appreciate that. The house is really great, you have to get used to the sounds of waves on the beach, it is really a front beach house, you can feel the wind from outside so you are not hot inside the house, this is a good thing ; so no need to have airconditionner good for health ; it is a lovely beach house for a beach surf holiday, we really enjoyed the view of the surfers in the water from sunrise to sunset, in our sofa, like if we had a TV in front of us ; you can train on the beach walk or run ; this is really convenient ; on the property you can use the paddle board, longboard any facilities to surf if you haven't carried yours ; it is really a nice place for a cooking time on holiday, i experienced the kitchen several times, you got everything, just knives need to sharpen a little bit :-) ; we recommend this house for surfers, people who loves the beach and the surf ; who would like to live a hawaiiann experience stay in front of one of the best private beach on Oahu. Mahalo to Mike ;Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The knifes have been sharpened!!! Lovely family.... come again.

Owner response: Merci beaucoup! Mike and Linda

A Perfect Family Vacation

We stayed here for a month during the summer and had a perfect time. There was plenty of room for our family (Mom, Dad & 4 small boys). The owner was very nice, friendly and accommodating and we spent many evenings relaxing with him, his wife and other neighbors, watching the sun set on the back lawn. The beach in front of the house was fun for snorkeling. A short walk down the beach brings you to a very nice, sandy area, great for swimming and young kids. There are people walking up and down the beach all the time, but the house is set above the beach, so it always felt private and secure. We loved the atmosphere on the North Shore. We drove all around the island from our home, here, and were glad to be away from the hustle and bustle of the south shore, but still close enough that we could drive anywhere we wanted to in a reasonable amount of time. There is a grocery store about 5 minutes drive away, and many restaurants and shops about 15 minutes away, driving west to Haleiwa or east to Kahuku & Laie, with many beaches and things to see along the way. We loved jumping off the rocks at Waimea Bay, seeing the turtles, snorkeling at 3 Tables beach & body surfing at Pounders beach in Laie. All in all, we had a great time and this house was a perfect home base for all our adventures. Thanks, Mike.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We remember them as a wonderful family. Part of the pleasure we get from having guests in our beach house is providing them with a stress free family friendly house. For so many of our guests this is their one time of the year to forget work and center on their kids. We try to make sure this happens for them and they are always welcome back. For most families if it wasn't for the vacation rentals they would not be able to come to Hawaii. Large hotels and resorts can't really provide for a relaxed atmosphere for families not to mention the big expenses involved.

Our family of five were lucky enough to spend a month here this year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was all we hoped for and more. The house is simple but comfortable and character filled, a real beach house in a beachfront position with amazing views over Sunset Beach. The owner is very nice and lives next door which is helpful (when our son broke the blender it was replaced immediately) . We would highly recommend this house to anyone who loves the ocean and beautiful sunsets. Thank you for the memories and we look forward to coming back before to long!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Yes I remember this lovely family... they really knew how to enjoy a beach house... they are always welcome back.

Step down from the nice grassy overlook and paddle out to one of two great breaks. 3 queen/full-sized bed bedrooms, 2 smaller bathrooms, and one nice open living space with panoramic views. If you want a taste of oceanfront North Shore living this property is a great option. relaxed atmosphere, nice kitchen, parking, outdoor shower, and what I enjoyed most - the view . . . whales, surfers, and sunsets. You must enjoy the sound of waves crashing at night to enjoy sleeping here . . . a small warning, those waves can sound more like a freight train rumbling all night long. Owner is very nice and lives nearby. Good for family or a group of friends.Owner response: The Winter surf can be noisy when its gets to 25' or so especially in the front bedroom. But hey this is what you come to NS for and this beach house is about as close to the surf as you can get without getting wet. In any case there are two other bedrooms that are on the mountain side that is much quieter although most of the guests report that after a night or two they get used to the surf sounds!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1979
About the owner: I am a retired Yacht Marina partner and have owned this property since 1979.
Why the Owner Chose Sunset Beach:
Best site on North Shore for epic Surfing. Low key ambiance with cool sweet trades off the nearby mountains.
No air conditioning needed!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
This house was originally the historic Judge Davis estate created in 1921. It is the last remaining and oldest beach house on
North Shore. The house has been modernized but most of its original character has been preserved. The house is NOT a
condo on the sea. It is a real informal beach house where a bit of sand on the floor doesn't matter. Lots of Palm trees over
50 feet high, mature flowering shrubs, and open space gardens.
