Our Gayfield Square apartment is our fabulous two bedroom property situated in a fantastic position, right in the heart of our wonderful historic city. In fact you couldn't get better - the apartment is located on a beautiful leafy square in the elegant Georgian New Town. Residential and quiet, yet just a few minutes walk (about seven) from the hustle and bustle of Princes Street and George Street and from there easily accessible to the castle and Royal Mile. Moreover, we're just round the corner from the funky Broughton Street area with its great selection of restaurants, cafes and bars as well as some lovely 'local' and quirky shops (the best butcher in town, great health food store and fishmonger to name a few!)

The apartment is typical in design for its era, dating back to 1820 (yes, 1820!) and built with the grandeur that represents Georgian architecture in its prime. It's also quite a one off with its own private entrance, front garden and back patio (very unusual for a property in such a central location of Edinburgh). Interior style is sophisticated, contemporary and calming with a lovely blend of old and new.

The main sitting room is a massive 16 x 13 feet with beautiful working fireplace (living flame gas fire), ornate cornice work and double windows with views to the front gardens and square beyond. Furniture comprised a comfortable sofa and contemporary Barcelona chair both in white leather as well as two antique gilt chairs upholstered in a bold print motif. Original art pieces hang on the walls throughout the property.

The bedrooms are quietly located with cosy queen-size leather bed in one and white wooden Georgian style bed in the other. Wall coverings are in calming taupe and pale mocca colours.

One bedroom is serviced by an en suite shower room with walk in shower with chocolate leather effect tiling. The other is serviced by the main bathroom with corner bath and shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped - a large range cooker/oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer - a great cooks kitchen as well as being a very sociable space to sit round the large black granite kitchen table whilst you eat or watch the cook at work! We also supply a complete pack in the apartment which will guide you through how to use everything and also a great guide to our favourite restaurants, cafes, shops and top tips on things not to miss out on while you're visiting.

We think we've created the ideal retreat to explore our wonderful city- we really hope you'll agree if you come and stay with us!

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

Hi- I'm Robin (pictured here with my best friend, Lola, my miniature schnauzer). I've lived in Edinburgh for more than 20 years, having moved here to study and then working in marketing for a number of years before buying a guest house and rental apartments. My Gayfield Square apartment is my pride and joy!- having bought it and renovated it to the style and standard it is today- I'm sure you'll love staying there!

Why the Owner Chose Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a fantastic city- historical, vibrant and sophisticated. The apartment is located in one of the most beautiful and central parts of town, the Georgian New town. Built around the 1800s the architecture of this area is beautiful and grand, yet the apartment is only a short walk from the bustling centre of town, all the attractions and some great places to eat and drink.

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

Culture, art, history and a lovely quiet- you'll live on a wide leafy square inhabited by locals which is a stones throw from the bustling Broughton Street area with its great cafes, restaurants and local shops (a great butcher and fishmonger are just round the corner). And only a 7 minute walk from Princes Street too!

Stayed in this lovely home for several nights; couldn't have picked a better place. Close to everything, but on a quiet street. Owner was extremely helpful; would recommend this to anyone traveling to Edinburgh.

Everything about this apartment was perfect for our first visit to Edinburgh! We stayed approximately 3 weeks in Robin's properties, Ardmor House and Gayfield Square. Robin and Tracey were more than helpful in their care and concerns for our comfort and enjoyment during our time at Ardmor House. The Gayfield Square apartment has everything and more than we needed for our multi-generation family. The tiniest of details were dealt with promptly and professionally. Highly recommend either of these wonderful properties for a short or extend stay. We will always relay on Robin for our accommodations in Edinburgh! Cheers!!!!

Quiet and beautifully appointed

For the last portion of our stay in Edinburgh we chose this flat/house, and chose wisely. Robin was at the house when we arrived and helped us get set up and oriented. It's located on a quiet street and has everything we needed, away from the hustle and bustle but still close to it all. My husband and I stayed there with my parents, was a nice space for two couples. If/when we are back in Edinburgh, we'd definitely stay here again.

Nice flat in lovely location

We had an wonderful 7-day visit in Edinburgh the first week in May, and thoroughly enjoyed the flat! Maintains traditional charm, but with updated amenties. We stayed in Edinburgh, and also used it as a base for forays outside Edinburgh with a rental car. Hertz and Enterprise locations happen to be very close, and parking is manageable. The location is excellent: toward the top of Leith Walk, near the east end of Princes Street, and across from Royal Terrace leading up Calton Hill. It is a lovely park setting on Gayfield Square, quiet but central, with a lovely gated front garden at the front door. Never heard any of the neighbors. Three minutes walk to Broughton Street shops and pubs, and ten minutes walk up to the St Andrews Square end of George Street. Easy access to city buses along Leith Walk. The flat is charming and well-equipped, with two bedrooms and two full baths. It would comfortably accommodate two couples, although my wife and I had it to ourselves this visit. Nicely renovated kitchen with modern facilities, including a generous gas range with dual ovens, and a dishwasher. Washer and dryer. Demand hot-water heater and time-controlled heating. The flat was clean and well-maintained. Everything worked well, including the plumbing. Robin, the owner and manager, met with us once at the beginning of our stay, was very helpful with suggestions and information, and responded by phone later when we had a question on operating the heating. We would return to this flat next time we visit Edinburgh!

Of all the places I have stayed when in Edinburgh, this has been my favourite: confortable and stylish, spacious yet cozy, quiet and private. The location couldn´t be any better: it´s on a very quiet street in the New Town, very close to the centre. The apartment has everything you need if you don´t fancy going out, but if you do, the booklet with restaurants/bars/etc will get you to some fantastic places that you probably wouln´t get to as a tourist. Highly recommended!

Just back from a long weekend in Edinburgh where myself and my sister stayed in this lovely Georgian apartment which is located in New Town, an historic and beautiful part of Edinburgh, and only a ten minute walk into the centre. The apartment was a one double bedroom with high ceilings and furnished with some lovely design classics, and well equiopped with all necessities for your stay. It was spacious and warm and a great apartment to just lounge around in all day (imagine, we only saw the Edinburgh castle ... far far away) The owner was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. Will be returning.
