Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
My husband and I started to look for a place that put us close to family around the country. Also, being from the west coast we wanted the relaxed feel of a beach community that we have experienced. South Padre Island fit the bill! It is relaxing, lots of things to do, or a place not to do anything!

Great family rental

The rental is affordable, clean, spacious and walking distance to the beach. The rental property is the back half of a disconnected duplex (there are no shared walls). The owners live in the front half and are very friendly yet discrete. Beach supplies (chairs, an umbrella, pails and shovels and a few body boards) are available - just remember to clean up for the next group. There is an outdoor shower which was great for washing up after the beach. There is wireless internet access, but you have to ask the owner for the access code - I'd recommend doing that in advance via phone or email. This is the perfect SPI family rental, and I'd definitely recommend it to a friend.
Owner response:Glad TX Ian liked the unit. Working on getting the wireless internet with no code needed, should be in the next week or so. In the meantime the code is posted in the guest information folder in the unit. We, the owners, will make sure the beach "stuff" is clean for the incoming guests for sure. It is the perfect beach get away beach home and we enjoy having guests from all parts of the country visit. Come enjoy SPI.

We had a wonderful time on South Padre island....Kevin and Janet were very friendly but kept to themselves. The house was very clean and comfortable and was supplied with everything we needed. Our 1 year old loved the balcony and played out there for hours. It is super close to the beach and you can see the fireworks from the driveway on Friday night. The beds were very comfortable and had a great memory foam topper! Overall it was an amazing trip! We will definitely be back!
Owner response:Thanks! So glad you all enjoyed your stay--it was a pleasure meeting you and your family.

This is a very clean, comfortable and private getaway as described. The owners are on site and very accommodating and gracious yet unseen unless needed. We spent most of the time on the beach for the three days we were there and I did not want to go home! The water was gorgeous and, as hot and humid as it was in August, it was always so cool and lovely by the water. The rental seemed roomier than the pictures indicated, we had five adults and three dogs and no problem...and the kitchen is very well stocked with whatever you need for cooking. We were celebrating two wedding anniversaries, my daughter and son-in-law's first and mine and my husbands 37th and the owners were kind enough to leave us a very nice complimentary bottle of champagne which I thought was so sweet of them...The covered area downstairs is so nice, if it had not been so humid the days we were there, I would have spent even more time down there...and of course, the shower was so welcome after a day at the beach. The dogs loved it down there, it's so convenient for pet owners! I imagine kids would love it as well. How many places do you get a fenced in yard with grass and all that shaded area and a grill to cook out on! We brought all our own chairs but that was not really necessary as they have a great selection available along with toys for the kids and boogie boards! This area is also very clean, neat and well organized...I am anxious to go back when the weather is a bit cooler. Oh, one note...the first day, we used the beach access to the left at the end of the street...but there is a much better one if you turn to the right...wider and has a much easier walkway that we discovered that evening, with a parking lot if you have a lot of beach equipment (cooler, canopy etc) that you want to drive over with, although it's just a short walk. We did eat out and the restaurants that we enjoyed the most were Parrot Eyes (really good) and Blackbeards. The Brewery did have good pizza but that's about it, their seafood not so good and we did not care for Daddy's either, although it was packed...not sure why.. Thanks to the owners for their kindness, graciousness and their willingness to accommodate all our needs! I highly recommend this lovely getaway!
Owner response:It is always so nice to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay so much. Thanks for the wonderful feedback!

Vacationed here with my husband, two children (21 and 19), 87 year old father in law and our French Bulldog! I never got that "wish I was home" feeling and actually was very sad our last day on the island. The condo was spacious and very well equipped. Super quick walk to the beach (where we could be found daily). My father in law enjoyed the balcony and spent many happy hours there "breathing the ocean air!" We utilized the beach chairs and boogie boards and really enjoyed the outside shower for rinsing off after the beach. We had planned to cook more than we did but with so many good restaurants nearby, we ate out a LOT! We were also very grateful to be able to bring our pet with us. He enjoyed the fenced yard and loved spying on the neighbors! It was a very relaxing, comfortable week. Thanks so much!

Nice condo, but terrible mattresses

We had a great week in SPI with our adult children, simply because we were together. The condo was clean, convenient, and nicely furnished. Our only problem was with the king bed's and twin beds' mattresses which were very uncomfortable; the mattresses weren't just hard, but we could literally feel the boards through a few inches of foam--the worst mattresses we've ever experienced in twenty-eight years of vacationing. After just one night, our backs were in pain and we had difficulty sleeping; the back pain increased nightly until we returned home. Unfortunately, the uncomfortableness of the mattresses put a big damper on our enjoyment since sleep is pretty important!
Owner response:This was the first time I heard the beds were uncomfortable at all! We will definitely look into the matter and replace any beds necessary as soon as the unit becomes available to us. My husband and I strive to make our unit comfortable and relaxing. I wish the guest would had told us while they were here so we had the feedback sooner. Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. Guest feedback means a lot to us. We know how busy everyone is these days, so we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. I hope this guest comes back and tries us again. Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

We had a house full, 4 adults, 4 kids and a big ole golden retriever. We all had plenty of room to do things together or apart. The beach is just a hop skip and a jump over. You can walk to many places or take the wave. The kids loved playing under the porch with the dog. We loved the quiet. The owners were both very nice and were always making sure everything was good and we were having fun. We cooked in the kitchen most of the time we were there. There's a walmart and an Heb over the bridge in Port Isabel. This was the best vacation we all have had in a long time. Thank You guys!!! We will definitely be back and are telling all our friends about it!!!
Owner response:So glad you all had a great time both on SPI and in our unit! Enjoyed meeting everyone and hope to see you on your next visit to SPI! Thanks for the referrals too:)

We had a terrific stay!! Very clean and comfortable. Close to the beach. Close to shopping and good food. Owners are very nice!!! We had a 2 yr old 3 people between the ages of 24-27 and one person age 45. The only thing with this property I would not recommend is for people with dissabilities or those who have issues with stairs, because that is the only way to get to the condo. For us the stairs just added to the vacation feel. We would recommend this property to anyone!! Thanks for the great vacation.
Owner response:We always love to know that our guests enjoyed their stay in our unit. We strive for them to be comfortable and have a sense of "home" while on vacation! Yes, there are stairs to be sure but a nice work out--not too many, but a consideration. We enjoy meeting people from all over the world and happy to provide a great place to of comfort.

Stayed for a few days with friends and our dogs. Super friendly owners! Perfect location, clean and well maintained, close to beach access, on quiet street, and walking distance to everything else you might need. We really did not use our car while there - no need to. Back yard was great since it's fenced in and has grass for the dogs. Outdoor shower makes clean up quick and easy before going inside. Would highly recommend!!!

This vacation home was perfect for us. Very clean, open layout. Nice balcony and large fenced in back yard. Washer/dryer very convenient to have, plenty of towels, beach toys, kitchen utensils. The owners provided top notch service - before our stay and during! They provided a list of local attractions, restaurants, grocery store.. very helpful. Grocery store and some restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed exploring by foot much more than driving! Beach is about a 3 minute walk from the property. Very clean and pet friendly. We took our dog to the beach every day. We will be back, and will stay at this property again. Thank you for a great experience!

We spent a week at this great vacation house. The location of this place is perfect with the beach a block away and numerous restaurants within walking distance. The home had plenty of room for six adults and a dog and is packed full of everything you'll need from beach toys, bbq pit, great backyard, washer/dryer and a dishwasher. In addition, the AC runs very cold and the house has a great balcony with a view of the gulf. We can't say enough good things about this wonderful place and their owners. We'll be back!
