Our cozy family cottage has 100' of private waterfront on beautiful Torch Lake. The cottage has housed our family visits to Torch Lake for generations, and we'd like to share our little escape with others. Torch Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and with one look into the crystal clear blue water you'll see why. We are fortunate to have a very gradual increase in depth for several hundred feet out into the water, creating a striking sight where the drop-offs signal the deeper blue depths of Torch. We have a dock that extends almost 90' out to the lake, with a 12' x 12' platform at the end for enjoying some time in the sun. At the end of the dock it's not even 3' deep! Just down the road is the Torch River Bridge, near the famous Torch Lake Sandbar and Torch River. Just across the lake is the town of Alden. The cottage has recently undergone significant renovations, completely modernizing the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas

Golf Information: There are a number of top golf courses in the area, including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. Some of the more popular locations include Shanty Creek Resorts with 'The Legend', designed by Arnold Palmer, as well as 3 other courses and Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' by Jack Nicklaus and 'The Wolverine' by Gary Player.

Boating Information: All boats are welcome. Torch Lake is a great place to water-ski, go tubing, and do all sorts of other water sports. We have an 88' long dock that can be used to access boats, although the water is still shallow at the end! Public accesses are close by. Please be considerate of the tranquil peace enjoyed by many during the dawn and dusk hours.

Area Festivals: Harbor Days --- Interlochen Summer Arts Festival --- Petoskey Festival on the Bay --- Suttons Bay Art Festival --- Northport-Leelanau Peninsula Wine And Food Festival --- Suttons Bay Jazzfest --- Charlevoix Venetian Festival --- just to name a few!!

Other Activities: Mackinac Island, Petoskey Stone Hunting, Fish Frying, S'mores-ing, Stargazing, and most important, RELAXING!

Map & Owner's Profile

Year Purchased: 1936

Why the Owner Chose Torch Lake

My great-great-aunt built the cottage in 1936 and our family has visited every year since. It's been our little slice of heaven! After completing some VERY significant remodeling work in June 2009, including a completely new kitchen, new bathroom, refinished wood floors, new electrical work, and so much more, we decided to make the cottage available for rent, to share our escape with others.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

Our cottage has a wonderful combination of feeling very private, quaint, and secluded with large, old trees surrounding the property. But only perhaps 30' away is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. As part of the Chain O' Lakes, Torch Lake has waterway connections to Lake Bellaire, Clam Lake, Intermediate Lake, Lake Skegemog, Elk Lake, etc. Not to mention Lake Michigan right next door. Nearby towns include Alden, Elk Rapids, Bellaire, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, and Traverse City. Nearby attractions include: Golf, Fishing, Mountain Biking, Hunting, Annual Cherry Festival, Elk Rapids Harbor Days, Orchards, Wineries, Grass River Natural Area, Interlochen Arts Festival, Chain O' Lakes Music Festival, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manitou Islands, MACKINAC ISLAND, and many, many more.

Owner's Map of Torch Lake

I've been going to the cottage since I was 6 months old, and spent entire Summers there growing up. I am no longer able to spend such long periods of time at the lake, but the cottage and surrounding area have a very special place in my life, and hopefully will in my children's lives as well. The swimming, boating, campfires, exploring, wildlife, and nonstop Summer activities all around the area can keep you busy all day every day!
