If you appreciate a historic property, you will love this recently restored house. In fact, it is so unique that we are just the third family ownership since 1834.

This house is ideal for Family Reunions, Corporate Retreats, Leadership Meetings and Weddings.

Originally the home of Sylvester Pond, a well known sea captain, the house sits on one acre, and is nestled next to thirty acres of tidal marsh land. It is just three short blocks to the quaint town beach and park. The house sits across the street from the Branford River (ocean inlet) so most views from the house are either of boats and water, or stunning marshland views.

We are located on Historic Harbor Street, where a trolley used to run leading down to the fantastic Brandford Point, a manicured park, playground and well groomed beach with a lifeguard are part of park area.

We just recently completed an extensive restoration/renovation to return the house back to its original grandeur while making it very comfortable, livable and modern. There is central zoned heat and central zoned air conditioning. This house is ideal for family gatherings, small groups or reunions. The House has six bedrooms.

*On the ground floor is a long hallway leading to two private bedrooms and a full bath.
One bedroom has a king bed and the other bedroom has a queen.

*On the second floor are three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king bed and walk in closet. The Master bathroom is quite spacious with a double vanity and deep porcelain soaking tub and shower. Bedroom four has two twin beds and en suite bath. Bedroom five a trundle bed (two twins) and a baby crib, with its bath across the hall.

*The third floor (Bedroom 6) is a large and bright finished attic with a queen bed.

The Eastern Connecticut Shore is quite possibly the quaintest area in America. The houses are historic with American Flags flying in abundance. Branford is the place where Yale University was founded. Walk (or use some of our bikes) to town and try the famous ice cream shop, antique stores and boutiques. Branford has some of the best restaurants on the Connecticut shoreline. The town square has a European feel or something from a Norman Rockwell sketch. The house is 8 miles from New Haven, 50 miles from Mystic, 70 miles from NYC, and 95 miles from Newport, RI.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

We are a couple live full time in NYC with three kids. We restored this home to be a place to get away from the city. We are both originally from Utah, we met while working in New York City 15 years ago. We both have a love affair with renovating historic properties. I graduated from Columbia University and worked at a large consulting firm. Now I run the rental units ( our other vrbo id is 138897) and enjoy staying home with my children. Bill works in business development for a software company.

Why the Owner Chose New Haven

We had rented vacation properties in the area for three years. Branford can't be beat for its charm, historic character, well kept beach, park and children's playground. We think it is the best of all the Connecticut Shoreline towns. We always loved this house and our heart skipped a beat when we saw the for sale sign. We made an offer 24 hour later. There is a reason why we are just the third family to have owned this estate in 200 years.

The Unique Benefits of this House

The house is like living in a comfortable historic museum. The fireplaces, hardware, beams, original floors...etc. The beach, boats and scenic walks. The grounds are spectacular. It will remind you of the Cotswolds in England. Our bedding and linens are 1st quality. We stay in high end hotels and promise that you will have equal comforts here.

Perfect House to Create Good Memories

Guest: Jenn (Boston, MA)
Date of Stay: 01/03/12 Review Submitted: 01/08/12

My group and I had very memorable times at this lovely house. It was the perfect size, location, and included everything we needed. Our first time here was in Feb. of 2010. The open kitchen and comfy living room allowed our group to bond easily. The owners were very friendly and made our rental process very easy. They were extremely understanding and committed to helping us have a wonderful stay at the house. We rented the house again and the owners were extremely nice to our group because we were previous renters. Once again the house felt like home and we had a really good time. The hot tub and trampoline was a good addition to the house. The warm weather allowed us to play football and sports in the huge backyard, which was something we couldn't do during our previous stay. Overall it was a perfect way to start off the new year and allowed my group and I to create wonderful memories. We will definitely try to come back to this house (or as well call it, our home away from home) again very soon!

october wedding/family reunion party

Guest: N (Bucks County PA)
Date of Stay: 10/14/11 Review Submitted: 10/17/11

This was the perfect place for our family for a wedding at Yale. There were 12-14 of us, arriving from all corners of the country, and the house accommodated us with ease. The kitchen was superb for all our cooking, the dining room was sunny and bright for our breakfasts and lunches, the family room and its wondrous couches made us all comfy and cozy, the various bedrooms were configured well for singles, doubles, kids, etc...there was space to be together and places to go for solitude or one-on-one talks. Beautiful grounds, great area for walks. The teenagers loved the trampoline. The fixtures, linens, etc were 5-star hotel quality. The place truly combined the amenities of a top-flight hotel with the comforts of a home. Lovely!

Stunning property perfect for a restful retreat

Guest: C (New York City)
Date of Stay: 05/06/11 Review Submitted: 05/24/11

My family and I stayed at this home in early May and had a marvelous experience. The property is very spacious, with not only several bedrooms but also thoughtfully designed communal space in the living room and kitchen. It is very beautifully decorated and inspires a restful and relaxed visit. In addition, its location just steps from the beach and community playground make it an ideal place for a family with children or anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors (I myself enjoyed hour-long runs in the beautiful weather each morning). It is also close to several fun attractions. We enjoyed, among other things, the Trolley Museum and a boat tour of the Thimble Islands as well as pretty terrific food in the historic downtown. I couldn't recommend this property more.

Outstanding!

Guest: Tara (Bridgeport)

Perfect for a large group, plenty of privacy for all, and plenty of living room for gathering together. We were a group of 40 somethings with some young children. The listing very accurately describes the home (especially the bedding!) and the walking-distance activities (we didn't even bother going further afield). The owners were responsive to our questions, the house was super clean and we lacked for nothing in the kitchen. We loved our experience here and look forward to returning.

Family vacation

Guest: Nana (Sunnyvale, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 10/18/10

Your house exceeded all of our expectations. Our large family had plenty of room for sleeping, relaxing and playing. The upstairs loft was great for our two grandsons who had their own floor to themselves. The downstairs bedroom was large enough for one couple to sleep along with the two cribs for the babies. The family room was perfect, especially with the large TV. We had plenty of eating space between the dining room and the kitchen buffet. As a bonus we were pleased that there were so many toys and outside equipment for the children. As a suggestion (not criticism) since most of your guest are large families you might get some larger pots and a rolling pin for backing. It also would have been helpful if you had beach chairs. If we plan to vacation again in the area, we will give contact you and hope that we'll find your house available for us. Judith and Richard

Owner response:You will be happy to know we stocked the house with some beach chairs and some large pots

Exceptional home for small weddings, family gatherings, getaway or that special event.

Guest: Julie and Bruce (Northern California)
Date of Stay: 09/07/10 Review Submitted: 09/17/10

Home was everything stated and more. No complaints at all. We feel blessed to have had this very special home for our special event. My son was married in Branford on 9/10/10 and all the family met and stayed in this lovely home from four different states. We even decided to have the before wedding pictures on the property. Everything is first class, great bedding, sheets, etc. Remodeled and upgraded kitchen, baths, etc. Super outdoor area, BBQ, horseshoes, etc. Great communication throughout the process and if we ever return to the area we will wait to be sure they have a vacancy. FIVE STAR PLUS!

Comment Rating 12/06/2009 What an amazing house! The pictures don't do it justice and your expectations will be exceeded as ours. A fantastic place for our large family. Lots of private bedrooms with fantastic beds, sheets and soft towels. The entire house is newly renovated. Perfect beach area for the summer. Life guard and playground for the kids. Real New England feel with lobster shacks and antique stores. Branford is an adorable. Make sure you visit Ashley's home made icecream and the lobster rolls sold down the street.

Email sent from a former guest: I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful stay at your house. We have rented quite a few vacation properities and have never stayed in anything as nice as yours. To be honest, if I owned that house I doubt I would rent it to strangers. You did an amazing job with the restoration and it was such a treat to stay in such a special and unique place. Our family has not been together in eight years and this was the perfect place to celebrate Thanksgiving. Everything was perfect and it could not have been a nicer experience. We especially appreciated your new and well stocked kitchen since we did so much cooking. We just loved the farmer's markets and the guy in town who sells lobsters for $6!!WOW Thank you again. We will certinally tell our friends about your rental. best wishes
