Top of the World Views - Luxury in the Mountains

Imagine being in this luxurious mountain home surrounded by acres of private land and the Mendocino National Forest. Enjoy panoramic views of Lake Pillsbury off the expansive back deck and Hull Mountain right at your front door. As you enter this ridge top home, you will immediately be drawn across the large open living space to the grand windows that rise from the floor to the soaring 20 foot vaulted ceiling with breathtaking views.
You will enjoy the quiet and solitude of this spacious home once the excitement of the view is absorbed by everyone. This home is very private, being the only house on the cul-de-sac, and within the gated community of Lake Pillsbury Ranch. While this home is a summertime destination for sun worshipers and water sports enthusiasts, the other seasons of the year bring a different but equally visual and peaceful experience. This area has an exciting past and long history with presidents and hollywood stars because of its spectacular beauty and privacy year round.
The spacious fully equipped stainless steel and granite gourmet kitchen with prep island and all the amenities will wow even the most discerning chefs. On the covered portion of the deck are a gas bar-b-que, café table and chairs, and lounge chairs on the open deck area. With air conditioning and ceiling fans for summer, or the wood stove assisted by the warmth of passive solar heating on sunny days from the ample windows facing south in the cooler months, you’ll find comfort in this ridge top home.
Oh… did I say that you are totally solar powered?? Yes you are, but you will never know it based on all the electronics and appliances in the house! During the warmer months you may not need indoor activities as the deck and kitchen are usually the social areas, but if you do, there are three TVs, two on the main floor with satellite/DVD/VHS, and one upstairs with a DVD player for the evening movie watchers. A collection of CDs, DVDs, and VHSs are available if you forget to pack your own. Wireless internet is provided along with a work station for your laptop.
This home is great for two couples/families as it has separate bedrooms/bathrooms on each floor with king beds and living areas, and an additional half bath downstairs. The downstairs bedroom is a suite with master bath, walk-in closet, and jetted tub with lake views. Upstairs, the second bedroom has a slider that opens to a small lanai that allows you to enjoy the majestic views inside or out. The open upstairs loft is spacious and looks out over the lake and mountains through the many windows, with 2 additional beds (one king, one queen) for a house total of up to 8 guests.
During the summer, when you are relaxed and ready for outdoor activities, pack your lunch, towels and sun block, and head to the lake. Launch your ski or fishing boat, kayak or canoe and enjoy one of the most special summer lakes in the West. There are several options around the lake to set up day camps, or access to the lake for swimming or floating. A summer Resort on the lake can provide you with your outing needs of ice, ice cream, drinks, beer, chips and snacks, but there are no restaurants or food service in the Lake Pillsbury basin at this time.
Lake Pillsbury has about 31 miles of shore line, big enough for everyone to enjoy with all the different water sports, but small enough and remote enough to have the lake to yourself during the week. With the lake surrounded by mountains and forest, you can have the best of both worlds of calm smooth water on the west side, or afternoon breeze on the east side for the sailing enthusiasts. A boat launch ramp is within a few miles of the community, and overnight boat slip usage is available during your stay.
From spring thru fall sunshine will lure you out on to the deck to put your feet up on the rail and relax with your cold drink or hot coffee and take in the panoramic views of Lake Pillsbury and the surrounding forest and mountains. Grab your binoculars and pick out the birds, deer, elk, fox or activity out on the lake. On warm sunny days, you can take in the gorgeous sunsets, or stay out and watch the evening transform to a breathtaking night of star gazing. See the moon, constellations, and the Milky Way with an intensity most have never experienced.
In the spring you can enjoy the lush green meadows, and in fall the colorful turning of the oaks weaved in-between the evergreens. Bring your mountain bike or take a long walk through the community roads that will give you choices of 13 miles of easy or advanced walking/biking surfaces. Explore outside the gates to some historic hiking trails or OHV trails in the national forest just a short drive away. Other popular activities in the basin include hunting, fishing and hang gliding from the 7000 ft Hull Mountain. Winter can bring on some snowy fun where the whole Lake Pillsbury basin turns a frosty white. At 2000 ft, the snow is usually a day or two of entertainment with a 4X4 vehicle usually required to enter or exit the area.

Had a great time. House was very comfortable and user friendly. All the amenities one would need. Evenings on the deck for relaxation and dinner, were peaceful, quiet, and visually spectacular. The afternoon breezes were a welcome relief, when the daytime temps climbed. The house stayed very cool and comfortable, without the need to use the air conditioning, even on the hottest days. Temperatures, during our five day stay, ranged from 92 to 98 degrees.Evenings cooled off nicely. The kitchen was well appointed and modern, with all the necessary tools and utensils to make any meal a breeze. Granite and stainless counter tops were a nice appointment. The center island allowed you and friends to contribute to the cooking chores, without the feeling of crowding. The Weber BBQ on the deck, made cooking your favorite charbroiled meals, simple and easy. Comfortable beds and living room furniture, along with premium video and sound, made the end of the day very relaxing. Hiking, biking, and boating, are only a few of your options, at this ridge top home with a "million dollar view". Would recommend this rental property to any and all.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for choosing our home for your 4th of July holiday and sharing it with another couple. I heard that having the two bedrooms each on their own level with full baths was great and the ladies really loved it. Maybe I will have a special for a two couples getaway!!!

After such an enjoyable holiday last year at this hidden gem, we returned for another week this year. Again, we were not disappointed! It's home away from home from the minute you walk in the door. It's comfortable and relaxing. The view is spectacular no matter what the weather is like and no matter what the time of day. Last year, the moon was full and lit up the lake. This year, the moon was crescent and you could see millions of stars -- the constellations. Gorgeous! The view can be enjoyed from any room (even from your bed) in the house or the deck. Like last year, we hated to leave. This has become our new way of "camping" at Lake Pillsbury! We had some truck trouble on our way up and were delayed arriving. The owners were very accommodating and understanding of our situation. Maryann and Mike, again, thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! We look forward to returning in the future!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Glad you were able to make your vacation even with a bit of a delay, and glad we had a little buffer with guests and you could stay a bit longer. Your family is always welcome, and please come back again....you can now toast your bagels on the grill or the new toaster!!!!

We just got back from a week at this home and it was better than fantastic! When we walked in the door, we realized how much of a treat we were in for during our stay! After our days spent at the lake, there was nothing better than a soak in the tub overlooking the view, kickin' it and watching a favorite show on the big screen, or just hangin' out in the loft and chillaxin!! I already miss the kitchen, we all miss the comfortable beds and space, and that a/c came in handy a day or two of our stay!! ;) We can't thank the owners enough for their kindness and their OVER THE TOP TREATMENT!! We were truly spoiled all week!! The pond was wonderful, as the owners had suggested we go! Sitting on the deck in the evening watching the display of shooting stars was a wonderful treat, also! I could go on and on about these people and their property - we look forward to coming back and enjoying another stay next year and years to come! We'll be recommending this amazing home to our friends and family!! Thank you again and again.....Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks Regan, Dave and girls. We love it when our guests are Pillsbury people and get the Pillsbury "chilling" thing. Yes it is a great house for girl time, and the guys can always go exploring. Glad you enjoyed your time, and next year will be here before you know it!

What a wonderful, relaxing week of vacation! This house was beautiful, homey, and comfortable. The views were spectacular – a direct view of the lake from the deck and bedrooms, a full rising moon up over the mountains, low early morning fog over the lake, spectacular sunsets, hummingbirds buzzing the feeder on the deck – nature all around. There was plenty of personal space inside the house for all of us. The gourmet kitchen was more than functional with plenty of room for more than one person at a time in it. Any spice you could possibly imagine was at your fingertips! The owners, Mike & Maryanne, were very friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable of the area. Mike was even able to get us a replacement part for our boat trailer that broke while we were there! We highly recommend this rental for a very pleasurable family holiday! It’s a hidden gem that we hope to make an annual tradition. Mike and Maryanne, thank you for opening your beautiful home up to us for a very memorable and relaxing family vacation.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Ed and Theresa! We so appreciate that you enjoyed the wonderful views from our house, as we still do after 10 years. Early season and late season make for the best sky-scapes. I created an album of the great photo's you shared with us available through the VRBO link to more information. Hope you can visit again soon. M&M
