Enjoy over 1250 feet of private access on the famous East branch of the AuSable River while you stay in this newly-renovated Adirondack home. This river is world-renowned for its fly fishing enjoyment. The wide expanse with pools, rocks and deep open areas provides exciting trout action. A secluded private beach is a special feature of our property.
Originally constructed in 1840, this home has pine walls, hardwood floors and rustic decor that compliment the natural surroundings. This non-smoking home, has a large eat-in kitchen, three br, living room and den with plenty of room for large families. Roam over five acres that include open meadow, pine forest or sit on the covered porch to enjoy the sound and sight of rushing water.
On this site is a 24' x 26' barn. A quiet road lends easy access to property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers. The shoreline has sandy beach areas and is large enough for setting up a tent, blankets for a picnic and reclining in lounge chairs. The property is along Ironman Bike course. We are located on the Keene/Upper Jay border.
Set in the high peaks, many recreational activities are nearby and can be enjoyed year round. For fishing, hiking, canoeing, tubing, rock climbing, biking, hunting, golfing, horseback riding etc., this is a great spot.
Mount Von Hovenberg and Whiteface Mountain Olympic venues are just 15 minutes away. Convenient to the quaint village of Lake Placid and the Olympic Center Complex, just 20 minutes away. International airports at Montreal, Canada, Albany, New York and Burlington Vt, are less than 2 hours away by car. Lake Champlain and the ferries to Vermont less than 40 minutes to the East.

While it was only two of us, this place was perfect for just a couple, but would also be great for a group. Loved sitting on the porch, quite and cool, and watching a nest of 3 baby birds up in the porch roof, learn to fly and take off while we were there. Great place and Keene was a great location. Locals very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. If you're in the area during the season, make sure to check out the local Keene Valley farmer's market on Sunday. Great produce, baked goods and crafts!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

This was our second trip to this lovely home on the river. We got to enjoy the beach this year and play in the mighty river.Did so many things and enjoyed the beauty and the nature of the area. Chapel pond was a hit, it was fun to swim in the pond.Even while on vacation people seem to think mom has to cook, the new kitchen and dishwasher made it a breeze. Thank you for a lovely week and we will be back for sure!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a perfect time last year and heard there were renovations before we got there this year. WOW!!!! It was great to have an updated and huge kitchen as well as a master suite on the first floor. And this was done without losing any of the charm this house had before. Well done, Joe and Michelle. A labor of love done to perfection!!!! AWESOME! Thank you so uch for letting us spend a great week in your beautiful home. The decor, the hummingbirds, wood peckers, blue jays and the 5 lb toad made for a week hard to leave and go do things. This is truely a place to come and relax, a car whats that? The sound of the river at night by the fire was wicked. Quick drive to the ferries, whiteface and lake placid. We will be back, fer sure!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Michele & Joe, Thank you for sharing the magical beauty and tranquility of River House! My family and I enjoyed a week of undisturbed paradise in your lovely house upon the hill, gazing down upon (and swimming and fishing in!) the mighty Ausable River. It was a sweet summer reverie we shall not soon forget. If you'll have us, we'll be back...again and again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

August 2006 - We enjoyed another wonderful stay at the River House (previous visit Summer '05). Great location...close enough to enjoy both the Lake Placid and Whiteface areas but secluded enough for a very relaxing vacation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We've found Heaven on Earth and it's located in Keene, NY. Wow - this was a fabulous vacation, thanks to Michele and Joe and their beautiful cottage. We relaxed on the river after tackling some great rock climbs. The battling "herds" of hummingbirds were a comical treat. We saw only one car on our road the whole time we were there - the driver was lost and only found us by accident. The quiet, peaceful seclusion and the sound of the Au Sable running in the background made THIS a vacation we hope to come back to again and again.Did you find this review helpful? I spent a wonderful Columbus Day weekend at River House this year. The location is fantastic-secluded and yet near enough to hiking trails in the high peaks region. The foliage outside the house was fantastic. Inside this wonderful home, we were also more than content. It is wonderfully furnished with rustic furniture and Adirondack accents. The efforts our hosts made in making this home comfortable, attractive, and functional work! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. We'll be back!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed for 5 days at this wonderful house, with huge field in the back and woods and the Ausable River out the front door, complete with sandy beach area, forested picnic spots, wooded walks and loads of quiet and privacy. The house is cosy - perfect for two couples or a family with 1-4 kids, or even just two people who want a little room to spread out. Pine boards cover the walls, ceiling and floors, and lovely Adirondack furniture completes the feel of a High Peaks getaway in the woods. The owners are great people who know the region and can give you plenty of tips about things to do, and they've made this house feel welcoming and comfortable. There's lots to do in the area and no reason to do any of it if you feel like spending the day fishing on the private river frontage that comes with the house, or swimming in the river, or playing touch football in the meadow out back or just sitting on the Adirondack chairs on the porch and looking at the millions of stars at night that you can't see when you live near civilization. Ah, bliss. We'd go back in a heartbeat.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
