To celebrate the 2015, we will give the next 2 people to confirm a visit the lowered price of only $400 per night and yes, the 7th night is still no charge, so call soon. That makes the nightly rate only $343, Vat and Cleaning, of course, would still apply. We only have 2 more reservations at this low price! People call the Ahwahnee Riverbend Area (one of the Gateways to Yosemite) spectacular, we call it Shangri-La. Ross and I chose these beautiful mountain meadows for the weather and location. Our meadow is warm in the winter and cool in the summer at 2000 elevation, we are rumored to have the best year round weather in this area. It really is amazing and truly Warm and Wonderful. Wait ‘til you see the house, check out the photos! There are private gates and a Redwood lined driveway entrance and separate exit for trucks, boats, and horse trailers. We can accomodate 8 adults and the rental is $500 per night ( see fees for cleaning and Vat/Tot tax cost), minimum 6 nights and the 7th night is free. Particulars are available within this listing under Rates. The house is 4800 sq ft (7 1/2 acres) of beautiful. The kitchen is really big with lovely grey quartzite counter tops and easy to use appliances and ample counter space to cook. The laundry room is big with washer, dryer and plenty of room for food in the walk-in pantry. The house has four bedrooms. Two are full suites (one Cal King, one Queen) with private entrance bathrooms (one suite can have TWO private entrance bathrooms) and both have private entrance/exit from the house. The Master has a fireplace (gas and wood, usable in winter). The 2nd + 3rd have Kings and a lovely view of the meadows; bathroom is across the hall (1 has private entrance/exit). The fourth bedroom is a queen and also has a private entrance. Our capacity at this time is eight people. We have four bedrooms and 3 ½ bathrooms. There are three flat screen TV’s (all have DVD). One in the Master Suite (45”) has Netflix, really big one in the den (52”), and the third (36”) is in front of the fireplace in the living room. You have satellite, movies and can start a show in one room and finish in another. Our dvd library of movies and shows is fairly large. If you need high speed Internet there is wireless and wifi almost everywhere on the estate. If you calculate roof size of house, barn, horse shelters, pool house, garage, breezeways, patio, porches (all covered), two well houses (plenty of water) there’s 10,000 sq ft of Malibu Blue roof on our lovely ranch style estate. The pool is quite large with easy access and open entrances from two rock stairways. It's about 40,000 gal and Jacuzzi (heats up fast) is about 400 gal. The natural rock waterfall is almost one story high and the deck around the pool has plenty of room for our four umbrellas and seating for 20 people. One huge umbrella partially covers the pool for our sun-sensitive guests. The Jacuzzi has a (November to March only) fire pit (propane) that is easy to use and wonderful to sit and talk. Our motto is ‘Sit Long, Talk Much’. We are less than five miles from a rockin’ mountain village (Oakhurst) with 20 great restaurants, a full multi screen cinema, microbrewery, and Raley’s grocery; famous for quality markets in Bel Aire and Knob Hill. There are numerous art galleries, retail stores, and farmer’s markets. We are ½ mile from Hwy 49 and very accessible. Our little paradise sits almost in the middle of the front Oakhurst and back Mariposa gates to Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is too beautiful for words. You can ride a narrow gage logging train, see Glacier Point, Bridleveil Falls, or just wander the glories of nature. Now THAT is truly spectacular. If you like water sports, 12 miles away you can play at Bass Lake (four more large lakes are less than an hour away) in season water skiing, boating, fishing (rod + fly) and a classy restaurant and bar with patio overlooking the lake and boat dock. The lake is beautiful because spring rain makes it clean, crisp, and clear. We are just 1 mile South on Hwy 49 of the hottest Cowboy bar in two counties with bands, dancing, big screen TV for sports, great food and tons of local ‘color’. We are less than a mile from ‘Open Range’ where cattle and their calves graze along the road and we have a working cattle ranch two miles away where you can watch real cowboys (and cowgirls) sort and rope cattle during the season. You can pan for gold (good luck) a half mile away at a secluded riverside park. We’re walking distance from a darling nine hole golf course with restaurant, bar, and a real Chef. (ooh, yummy…she sure can cook!) Also, available for special events at Rivercreek Golf Course or privately). There is an 18 hole golf course about four miles away. The meadows in this area are lovely and perfect for all season activities as you see from the photos of the estate. SO MUCH TO DO, YOU WILL LOVE IT!! If you are road weary travelers, couples wishing an exclusive get-away (rarely see neighbors, they are some distance away), best friends that just want to ‘chill’, or crave to wander the mountains with your pets (we have maps)—This is the place for you. Summer is fun and winter is exciting here at Ahwahnee Riverbend, Gateway to Yosemite. Snow at 2000 feet elevation usually only lasts until 10am when the sun comes out, which makes travel much easier. But no worries! There is usually plenty of snow in the ‘Snow Play’ area up in the Nat’l Forest, 12 miles up the mountain. People love to snow shoe, sleigh ride, cross-country and sled. You can trail ride all year long, summer in the mountains, winter down on the flats. You can 4-wheel drive, Yosemite Zip, horseback ride, golf, hike, bike, ride the railroad, work cattle, ski (both kinds), swim, sight-see, shop, browse art galleries, eat, play, and love. This is our home. We left LA, found Ahwahnee and never looked back. One of our best friends already bought a place here and another best buddy is looking for property. What does that tell you? We love it, our horses and dog love it, EVERYBODY loves it, you will, too. This is a beautiful area and a super place to stay. Give a call, the phone rings right into our house and it is an 800 number, too. 800-459-8429 Louisa and Ross Weddle

Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: We are happy, healthy couple. We hail from the midwest but in Calif for almost 40 years. We both lived in Germany in the 70's and love to visit there.
We ride our quiet mares, Fritzie and Kelly all over the mountains as the trails are well groomed fire trails that are incredible. They wander in the mountains, around lakes and past historic views that cannot be reached by car. We have ridden most our lives and are still amazed at the diversity of this area.
When we aren't riding we are total tourists in our beautiful backyard, Yosemite National Park.
Why the Owner Chose Ahwahnee: The house is unique and beautifully laid out. The grounds have ample room for our horses and the meadows circle the house so the horses can watch you all day long; and they do. Their tv is their humans playing in the pool. They just can't get enough of it. Little odd to look out the high round window in the master bath and they're watching you..strange but you'll get used to it. They are curious children. Even without horses this estate is very calming, easy and comfortable.
The first year we were treated to a white Christmas. It was the icing on the cake. Ross and I will be here for the rest of our lives.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate: If you want to stay home the kitchen is perfectly set up with just about everything a cook/baker would want. There is a large front meadow and porches just about everywhere. You can swing and watch horses graze out the front, enjoy the view from the tables at the pool, or sit at the table and chairs outside the kitchen where there are lights, a fan and a pass-through window for food and drinks. Talk about lazy?
