We had a family reunion of sorts over Thanksgiving. Had an outstanding time. House has a very unusual layout that accommodates subsets of people gathering and connecting all over the place. Great dining room table that accommodates 10-12; Nice, well equipped kitchen. Downstairs playroom with TV and pool table, screened porch with table upstairs, covered porch downstairs with porch swing. Its so close to Chimney Rock which is a GREAT place to spend a day. Durnig the week, we had a number of family and college-aged guests who dropped in for a day here, and an overnight there. This location and house met so so so many different needs and interests.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

Large, well-appointed home where there is enough space for everyone, things for all ages to enjoy, kitchen equipment for a crowd, & different places for groups/individuals to enjoy separate activities. The amenities of a resort available in a private home w/ a huge yard -- on the lake, no less.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Enjoyed stay very much; having access to lake via canoe & paddle boat especially nice. Only negative was squeaky upstairs floors if you were sleeping downstairs and someone was walking around upstairs, and noisy springs in the bunk beds; but these were minor overall. Owner was very responsive when called about the cable TV. Quiet and peaceful location yet close to the amenities.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

The singled zone heating made it impossible to regulate a comfortable temperature throughout the house. When it was pleasant downstairs, it was hot upstairs. Likewise, when it was comfortable upstairs, it was cold downstairs. The refrigerator did not keep the food cold, 3 gallons of milk spoiled after 4 days with the expiration date being the following week. The back yard had swampy areas which were filled with mud and some type of vegetation growing in it. If anyone inadvertently stepped in it, their extremities were caked with a black mud. The house was clean and the furnishings were as represented, charming indeed. The first day that we went swimming in the lake behind the house, two leeches attached themselves to swimmers, and the bottom of the lake was very soft and muddy. All in all, the lake and the comfort of the house was disappointing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.
Owner response: I wish you would have called to report the problems you were having during your stay, I could have advised you how to remedy the A/C situation. This has been one of the hottest Summers on record in this area with the 90 to 100 degree temperatures. In hindsight I should have not allowed the 2 extra guests and 2 dogs, which put your occupancy at 16, and that is too many guests to be comfortable for a week. Sorry about the milk,it is hard for the refrigerator to keep an even temperature with that many guests. Our home has one of the few flat yards in Lake Lure and almost totally surrounded by water so yes there are moist spots in the back yard. We prefer this as do most our guests not to have lots of steps to go down to access the lake. We have streams on 2 sides ,a small salamander pond on the back left corner of the yard and a slow moving stream that cuts through the bottom of the back yard and yes it is muddy that is why there is a bridge built across it to get to the island. Yes the lake bottom is muddy as is true with most man made lakes in our area. There is a sandy swimming area in the resort for guest use on Lake Lure, as well as multiple pools in the resort if you do not want to swim in the Lake. I spoke with the head of Guest Services for the resort and there have been no reports of leaches in the lake from any other guests, but he said they could be found in any freshwater lakes. Sorry Bald Mountain Lake did not suit you.

We just returned from a wonderful week in your beautiful home on the lake. The property was just as described, well-maintained and a great place for us to relax and spend time together. There was plenty of room for us ( six adults, one teenager and one baby) to spread out when we wanted a little privacy or congregate when we wanted family time. The game room has a pool table - but also two couches on which a few of us curled up to read in the afternoons. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and pots & pans, etc. and we had some great meals around the large dining room table. We also enjoyed sitting around the fire pit in the evenings making s'mores and sharing stories. The large backyard was a good place for the baby to play safely. The pools at the resort are very nice and they were convenient to use. We also spent time at the beach on Lake Lure. We rented a pontoon boat for a few hours from the resort and took a tour of the lake. We found it really hassle-free to have all those amenities so close by and easy to access; but we especially loved the privacy of the house and being able to enjoy the quiet in the evenings. Note to potential renters: our interaction with the owner of the property was great - questions answered right away through email - and lots of instructions around the house itself that were helpful. We would definitely recommend this property for your family getaway.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children.

My sister-in-law wanted to give my two sons, my wife and myself, a summer vacation in the mountains of North Carolina. She and her parents are from Canada and drove down to this wonderful mountain home. It is far away from the "big city" but close enough to everything you need. The fact that it is situated on a resort, allowed us to use the beach, pools, mini putt, and business center. My older son loves fishing and he was able to go out and fish every day as the property sits right on a small lake. The use of the canoe, bikes, pool table, and fire pit, always gave us something to do. Everyone had a great time and I highly recommend this vacation getaway if you want to have a great time with family and friends. Our 2012 summer vacation in the mountains will be remembered for ever and we will certainly be back!!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Our extended family of 10 (including 4 children) spent a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation at your octagon home. What a special location - on a small private lake for fishing, with an amazing view. Thank you for the use of the canoe, paddle boats, and bicycles. There was so much to do that we never used the indoor pool available at the resort.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

My family just spent a week enjoying the idyllic beauty of mountain lakes. We had four families and three small children. The property was perfect, both for ease of sleeping and for enjoying the lake with the children. It was great to have the seclusion of a private home, but also the availability of the resort amenities. Would definitely return again. So much to do in the area as well.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners.

Thank you so much for the use of your vacation home; we had a wonderful time! Your pictures and descriptions were very accurate and there were extras we did not expect. It was very obvious that you have tried (and succeeded) to have everything that one could want or need; right down to the Ingles Advantage card so that your guests could get sale prices on their groceries. We loved having a yard for the kids to play in and watching the deer stroll around was a bonus. The resort is so family oriented that we just loved it and never left except to buy groceries. The quick return of the security deposit was much appreciated. Thanks for a memorable vacation!!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.
