My apartment in Paris is special.
That`s because despite being close to the Seine on the Left Bank, it is quiet, airy and has a far reaching view across gardens and treetops. While waiting for your coffee to brew you can gaze out at the spires of Notre Dame and farther off across the river, Sacre Coeur, up on the hill of Monmartre.
The apartment is on the top floor of a 4 floor walk up (it`s a typical old Latin Quarter building) but as soon as you walk through the door you are in your own Paris world. No feet pounding over your head at midnight! And as the building is situated in a courtyard one barely hears the sound of traffic either.
But once outside on the street you will find that you are in the beating heart of old Paris. It is an easy stroll to so many landmarks - Notre Dame, the Pantheon, Jardin des Plantes - a wonderful, unsung place to hang out in Paris by the way, and the Evolution Museum in the jardin is really beautiful - so calm compared to the more famous art museums with hordes of tourists.
Rue Moufftard, the oldest street market in France is also close by. Hemingway, Joyce, George Orwell - they all lived around here.
When you want to zip around Paris, you will find a metro at either end of the little cobblestone street that will get you anywhere you need to go very quickly.
And don`t overlook the great local buses. There are several bus stops nearby and, for example, you can can go directly to the foot of the Eiffel Tower , while driving through the narrow streets of the Left Bank, window shopping! Another unsung feature of Paris. You do not need to pay for expensive tours!
There is supermarket across the street , open until 10pm every night (except Sunday). And of course there are bakeries and other lovely food shops jumping out at you everywhere you turn. That`s when you give thanks for the stairs!!
On a practical note, it`s a small apartment, one bedroom but it sleeps 3 comfortably.
The king size bed in the bedroom is actually 2 twin beds if needed, and the sofa in the sitting room is a proper custom made sofa bed. There is a walk in closet.
In the bathroom the shower is attached to the wall above the bathtub. There is also a bidet, for soaking those aching feet.
The kitchen is small but well equipped, and although there is no regular oven, there is a microwave/convection combo oven and a 3 ring gas stove top. Also a dishwasher, a washing machine and a dryer, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, etc.
I have tons of books, including guide books, lots of CDs of all kinds and an apple laptop with wifi connection. Oh, and TV of course, although you will gaze out the window more I`m sure.
Finding a place to rent in Paris can be daunting as there is SO much choice online these days, some of it misleading (putting it politely!) so you do need to be careful. This may be a special trip for you, an anniversary perhaps , and you want to be sure you find somewhere to stay that lives up to your expectations and will enhance your Paris experience so you will have memories for a lifetime.
This is my home and I have set it up accordingly, so it has the comforts and atmosphere of a real home, not a rental unit.
If you think my apartment might be suitable for you, please don`t hesitate to e.mail me with any and all questions and if you would rather talk on the phone, I`ll give you my phone number.
All the best.

My husband and I recently had the honor of staying in Deirdre's lovely abode for a week prior to Easter in this 4 flight walk-up in the Latin Quarter. It is conveniently located between 2 Metro lines and several bus stops, all of which we took advantage of, as well as one of the best boulangeries in Paris, Kayser, as well as open markets, fromageries, a supermarket, wine shops, etc. The cafe on the corner, Le Petit Cardinal is warm and accommodating, serves excellent petit dejeuner, as well as late night drinks. The 4 flights of stairs may be burdensome for some but promise excellent views and lots of sun and sky. It overlooks a mostly quiet courtyard, where you will hear birds and church bells, but beware of the adjacent schoolyard where the children play several times a day if you wish to sleep late or need a nap. The apartment was kept comfortably warm (it was quite cold in Paris when we were there!) with enough down comforters, pillows, and a lovely heated towel rack to keep us toasty. Deirdre has made her home quite homey, with a wonderful CD collection, laptop, Paris guide books, novels and magazines and a variety of wine glasses. It is very clean and fresh. We made use of the washer and dryer and it was easy and great having our own coffee and fresh pain de chocolate every morning! Not only is Deirdre very helpful, kind, and responsive, but Marie-Noel, her Paris manager, is as well, with restaurant recommendations, transportation help, and anything else you might need. I would recommend this property for anyone looking for a very convenient location to many well-known Paris spots while embracing the lifestyle of Parisians in a safe, warm environment. If you require absolute quiet ALL day or stairs are a hindrance, this might not be the place for you.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

After viewing the pictures of this apartment I could not wait to rent it. I was traveling with a girlfriend and my 17 year old daughter and only had 4 days/5 nights in Paris. The apartment was exactly as pictured. It was warm, inviting, tidy and efficient, perfect for 3 people. The beautiful windows and charming architectural elements made us feel like we were in an enviable location (which we were!). My daughter especially loved the bookcases filled with beautiful old novels and travel books. I loved that the place was small yet not at all claustrophobic. It was nicely decorated and had a place for everything including a laptop computer and cd player. The view out the large windows was spectacular and the heavy shutters kept the warmth in at night. The weather was cold when we were there, but the apartment was plenty warm and never ran out of hot water. We really loved the insulated teapot which kept our nightly tea piping hot for several cups. The bathroom had plenty of room for our toiletries (a nice plus) and a heated towel rack (another fabulous plus). We had ample room to unpack our belongings and the table was large enough for the three of us to eat at for breakfast and light dinner. There was also a dishwasher, washing machine and separate clothes dryer. We did not use them since our stay was short but amazing to have. We were very comfortable and I for one look forward to renting here again (when the weather is warmer!). The 4 flight walk-up winded us on the first day but the apartment is so worth the climb that it was cake after that. Deirdre was wonderful to deal with. She is as charming as her apartment and was responsive to all of our questions. Plus we were able to pay in U.S. dollars which was extremely convenient. Her manager, Marie-Noel was also fantastic. She met us at the apartment and went over all the details and also arranged for a cab to the airport on Sunday morning for our return home. There was a nice book of restaurants and tips in the apartment and we got to know the routes around the neighborhood easily. We also felt very safe despite being 3 women (who speak very little french). The apartment is very secure and in a nice area. Merci beaucoup to Deirdre for sharing her lovely home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This apartment is so beautiful and comfortable. I went on this vacation with my 70 year old Mom and 8 year old daughter. We could not have been more pleased. From the minute we were greeted at the door until the day we left we felt at home. We took the train from CDG airport and the directors that Deirdre gave us could not have been any easier. Everything is so close and there is a metro a few feet from the door as well as many bus lines which is what we used most of the time. I loved going to Carrefour's (grocery store) or Rue Mouffard for our groceries. Both are so close. Being able to have dinner in the apartment was great. There are several great bakeries within feet as well. The apartment is just so charming and comfortable! My daughter especially liked getting into the deep bath tub. The bed was very comfortable and Deirdre has a great selection of CD's. I liked having internet too : ) I hope to be back again next fall. I had been to Paris once before and stayed at a Hotel and that had nothing on staying at this apartment. The owner is so sweet and I'm thankful that she is sharing this gem with others.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

You should still brave the stairs of this fourth floor walk up. If only for the archictecural viewing pleasure from the living room and the bedroom of the spires of St. Severin, Notre Dame, St. Sulpice, and the view of Sacre Couer. At night Notre Dame and Sacre Couer are lighted up. Quiet courtyard means you can leave your windows open at night without hearing street noise. And what a delight to have a big window that opens in the compact, extremely well appointed kitchen (large refrigerator with freezer to make ice). Comfy beds and bed linens. Lots of hangers and closet space so you can actually unpack. Every inch well utilized in this compact space, while at the same time plenty of room for two to move around. Separate bedroom with a door is a big plus. Separate washer and separate dryer are top of the line, quick, quiet, and efficient. Excellent water pressure. And forget bottled water; even though the building is of a historical age, the water is tasty and will not upset your system, no matter how delicate. All rooms are larger than they appear on line. Location, location, location. One half block from a full service Carrefours grocery store, a health food store, a bakery, a brasserie with reasonably priced daily specials and lots of expats, a good cheese shop, a pharmacy, and a shop we visited daily for their pates. Plus a newly opened wine/coffee bar (called WHY) where the manager, Yves, will be delighted to help you with all things French, calling museums to check hours, to providing city bus passes, to aiding you with your French enunciation, and of course delighted to discuss politics. This apartment is only two blocks from bus stop for city bus 63 which will take you along the museum route and past many landmarks. This is a charming apartment in a cost effective arrondisement, away from much of the touristy hustle bustle and prices, but with easy access to points of interest by bus, or on foot. Don't bother to bring maps or walking tour or guide books with you; the apartment is bursting at the seams with all things Paris. Marie Noel was extremely helpful and prompt in researching bus information, museum and holiday information, and in securing a reliable cab for our early morning departure to CDG airport. Treat yourself to this particular magical Paris apartment experience....at least once.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is an enchanting apartment, in a great location. It is just as described, perfectly appointed and incredibly clean. It is tiny but has exceptional space economies and works really well for a couple, and well for three. The kitchen has everything that you'd want, and it is all new and beautiful. We would retire from the busy streets to the apartment and enjoy its tranquility. And we really didn't mind the walk-up, that exercise and the red wines helped us to justify the cheese course each evening. Deirdre is wonderful and her staff is responsive and generous. We can't wait to go back. Don't miss the Kaiser Bakery, the Jardin des Plantes for a run, the rue Mouffetard market, and Moroccan Tea at the Mosque of Paris.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you like the Left Bank of Paris, this apartment is a gem. It is situated in the 5th arrondissement, literally less than half a block from the metro and a 7 minute walk to Notre Dame. The owner of the apartment is a delight to work with, responsive and communicative as is her on-site apartment manager in Paris. All amenities are present-dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, computer and very easy to use. There is a supermarket less than 1 block from the apartment and a Kayser's bakery 3 blocks away. Highly recommended for the solo traveler or for 2 people. Note that the apartment is on the top floor (hence the great view of Notre Dame) and therefore be ok walking up and down w/multiple flights of stairs. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Paris.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

A truly charming and delightful apartment and neighborhood. I wish I could stay forever. I chose it to be near a class in needlepoint but fell in love with the apartment immediately. I arrived with my daughter and granddaughter and we had the most marvelous weather for their stay of 12 days. Isabelle bought a trottinette with her Paris money and scooted all over Paris and Versailles. In the beautiful weather, we walked for at least 4 hours per day. One day we spent most of the day in the apartment for Isabelle to finish her homework and that was wonderful, too. We thoroughly enjoyed the butcher, the baker and the hardware store owner. I felt as if I had been here forever. Besides visiting the attractions, we mostly enjoyed our daily routine of shopping for dinner and feeling a part of the quartier. My daughter had never been to Paris before and wants to come back to your apartment for a honeymoon that she never had. I spent my birthday here this year and we ate out at Le Beaurelais (our favorite restaurant) and went to Vivaldi's Four Seasons at La Sainte Chapelle. Our first full day we went to La Foire aux Brocantes et Jambons at Ile de Chatou. That was on my bucket list! Megan, my daughter was particularly enamored of the week-end brocante markets and we spent hours browsing. It was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

As soon as I saw the pictures of Deidre's apartment on VRBO, I knew it was the place for us, and I was right. The pictures and description are accurate, but don't really do the apartment justice. My husband and I woke up our first morning to the bells of Notre Dame, and to the cooing of doves in the courtyard. We have been to Paris many times, but haven't ever rented an apartment before. We are convinced that we found the only one we want to stay in on our next visit. The location was superb -- convenient to a wonderful array of restaurants (we especially liked The Petit Pontoise), to the Metro, and walkable to many of the best Paris sites, including Ile de la Cite, Luxembourg Gardens, the Pantheon, etc., etc. Deidre was concerned for our comfort -- even called us to check that all was well -- and Marie-Noel was there to greet us and show us all of the apartment's amenities (having a washer and dryer was great!). The four flights of stairs were daunting at first but, by the end of our stay, we took them in stride. All in all, we had a wonderful 10 days. Thanks you, Deidre, for sharing your little gem with us.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed in this apartment several times and never tire of it. It is charming. The owner has done an excellent job of providing high quality linens and bedding, plenty of information about the area, and a fantastic music selection. When you wake up in the morning and see the Towers of Notre Dame from the breakfast table, you will know this is the way to enjoy Paris. The location is perfect. The apartment is located very close to the junction of the north-south and east-west metro (subway) You can get to almost anywhere in Paris very quickly and easily. There are also excellent open air markets nearby(and a grocery store within a few meters) to stock the kitchen with all you would need.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

It was so easy to get to from Charles de Gaulle via RER/metro. Huge windows from each room made the flat light and airy. So comfortable to have fresh breeze and great cross ventilation in August. All the conveniences of wi-fi, smart kitchen, spotless bathroom etc. Because the building is off an interior courtyard, you wake up to birds chirping in the trees and not the usual traffic and garbage truck noise normally in the center of town! Amazing markets, cafes, wine bars, bakeries, restaurants at your doorstep. The owner is a veritable encyclopedia on Paris (among other subjects)! Most willing to share information and genuinely wants your stay to be most comfortable and truly enjoyable.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
About the owner: Originally from Dublin, I live now in San Francisco and lucked into my apartment in Paris over 11 years ago. I knew when I climbed the 4 flights of stairs, walked through the door and saw the light and the view that this was IT!! So peaceful and airy. It helped that it had just been beautifully renovated by an Italian and her architect, who had maximized the space while keeping the architectural details. But I had to move in to appreciate how brilliantly convenient the location would prove to be, even though I had previously lived in 3 different locations in Paris, including another part of the Latin Quarter - closer to the river but jammed with tourists and fast food joints. The 2 different metro lines and 4 buses within moments of the front door are something for which I give thanks on a daily basis as I go about my daily life without a car. My friend Marie-Noel, who manages the apartment and greets guests, was born and raised on the Left Bank (she lives just down the road) and she gives real insider advice on the neighborhood. We both want our visitors to have the best possible time, and they do seem to, judging by all the kind and enthusiastic comments we hear and read in the coffee table book. Cheers, and good luck - have a fabulous time in Paris wherever you end up staying. Deirdre
