Steal away to a secluded tropical paradise, "Blue Ginger Hale" (Hale is Hawaiian for House) and spend your Hawaiian vacation in the heart of Oahu's famous "North Shore."

This one-acre of botanical flora will not disappoint you. Huge 8-ft. high stands of vivid orange and yellow Heliconia flowers surround the house along with 6-ft. tall patches of red torch ginger and the exotic "Brazilian Blue Ginger". Orchids grow wild flowering down from the mango and cashew nut trees. There are 26 different types of tropical trees, 16 varities of palms and 57 different species of tropical flowers that meticulously adorn this one-acre property. Some of the trees include, mango, avocado, cashew nut, lychee, eggfruit and kukui nut, and always in season are dozens of local apple banana trees, papayas and even coffee plants.

This was originally a tropical plantation/nursery built only 14 years ago. A custom designed "Lindel Cedar Home", this 1 bedroom, 1 bath guest accommodation was just remodeled with a new full kitchen added in June 2005. It has all new gas appliances, granite countertop a double stainless steel sink and more. The house is complemented with European (Grohe) fixtures, touch lighting, as well as solid maple floors and high open beam ceilings. As you look through the interior pictures, notice that each and every window throughout the house offers garden views. It also has a back lanai (porch) to sit and sip your Mai Tai's on. This is a guest unit to the main house and shares no common interior walls except a large laundry room (shared washer/dryer). Both the main house 2 bed/2 bath and this unit have their own separate BBQ's, picnic areas, hammocks, beach toys, etc.

For anyone who truly wants to experience life in old Hawaii but with all the modern conveniences, this spacious 1 bed/1 bath is for you. You can nap in a rope hammock under a lychee tree or BBQ fresh local catch from Haleiwa harbor on your gas grill. You have your own secluded table for two surrounded by a huge stand of eight foot tall, bright red Heliconia. The cool breezes rising up from the ocean rustle the foliage throughout the day. Wake up to the sounds of Native Hawaiian Birds in the morning and loose yourself in time in the evenings gazing at the same stars that the ancient Hawaiians used to navigate from Polynesia in their search for a new land. The Pupukea area offers a rich history dating back to the Ancient Hawaiians be sure to visit a sacred Heiau just down the road.

For your convenience, Foodland Supermarket, Starbucks as well as bike and surfboard rentals are all located in the small shopping area just 2 miles down the hill. Enjoy playing golf and fine dining only 15 min. Southeast at the Turtle Bay Resort. It offers two championship golf courses (Palmer & Fazio) and is a Senior PGA Tour stop. Local farm raised shrimp can be found at numerous shrimp trucks in both Kahuku and Haleiwa. You can also stop and buy fresh Kahuku corn or local grown watermelons at any of the roadside stands.

Less than a 10 min. drive Northwest and you can stroll through the quaint shops of "Historic Old Haleiwa Town". Don't forget to stop by and get a "Shave-Ice" from the world famous Matsumoto's Shave-Ice & General Store. Summer time you can walk and search the tide pools of Sharks Cove for shells, swim, snorkel, boogie board, sunbathe or just take a nap on any of our fine North Shore beaches. Winter months bring back the migrating Hawaiian Humpback Whales to the North Shore along with the "Monster Surf". Whale watching catamaran tours depart twice daily out of near by Haleiwa Harbor.

Watch the giant waves and various surf competitions at Bonsai Pipeline, Alii Beach and of course Sunset Beach all less than 10 minutes from your door. When the waves reach 25 feet or more is when the worlds greatest surfers are invited to compete in one of the most exclusive and dangerous surf competitions in the world..."The Eddie" only 3 minutes away at beautiful Waimea Bay.
This is a one of a kind, world class event.

Don't fight the traffic driving to North Shore, live it. This is "Real Hawaii" experience it like you never have before...NORTH SHORE!

    • Just arrived from our Trip to Hawaii. The Blue Ginger Hale is a gem, Linda has all the detailed info you may need to know about the unit in a clear and concise manner, all the extras, the shopping card, WiFi made it so much easier for us to feel at home. renting the Hale was a breeze. The garden is just amazing, yes there is a lot of plants, but is perfectly manicured and landscaped so access is easy to the BBQ (loved the hammock) and the rest of the grounds. My only suggestion would be a virtual tour of the Hale, somehow the pictures, don't show real the beauty of this place. No more hotels for me! this site has places like Linda & Ken's all over. Mahalo!

    • We spent three nights at Blue Ginger Hale in April 2009. We loved the serenely beautiful setting -- such a welcome change from the commercial hustle and bustle of Waikiki. We appreciated the little touches such as beach towels, a supermarket discount card, and island road atlas. After a great day on the island, it's so special to come home to "your own" little hideaway on the North Shore. If you are looking for something off the beaten path, this is perfect. Great prices!

    • We stayed at the Blue Ginger in Pupukea after Christmas this year. Linda answered all our questions during our reservation process, and gave us detailed and helpful directions to Pupukea. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the beautiful landscaping and convenient access to the gate and the doors (gate clicker/personal password). The house was lovely with its welcoming bedroom and spacious bathroom, and equipped for us to cook! It was so peaceful and serene waking up the birdsongs and cool breezes (no AC needed!). When the power went out all over the island, Linda kindly called us to check on how we were and to ensure that we had found the candles. Mahalo for the hospitality and the chance to relax away from the madding crowd (Honolulu)... just what the doctor ordered!

    • My wife and I spent four nighs in the "Blue Ginger Hale" just last week. We loved the North Shore location and the beautiful garden setting. We also appreciated all the thoughful touches like microwave popcorn, fresh fruit, and ripe avacados delivered to our door. If you are looking for a safe, quiet, restful location, then the "Blue Ginger Hale" is your place, and for lodging on the North Shore, or anywhere else on Oahu, the price cannot be beat. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

    • My Husband and I stayed at Blue Ginger Hale in April 2007. Words are hard to find it summarise what a truely fantastic place this is. It is so beautiful, clean, peaceful and every little detail has been thought about. The owners are fantastic, we just cannot recommend it highly enough. We still talk about the garden, fruit trees, birds singing, location etc etc etc almost daily. This is a really good deal yet beyond 5 star in every respect! Also a perfect compromise for couples who want surf but peace and tranquility as well! We wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else!

    • My sister and I miss "our" house so much! Thank you for having the perfect place to stay on Oahu. It was so much more than we could have imagined. It's an absolutely wonderful place to stay and I wish I could be there now. This getting back to the "real world" after relaxing in Hawaii is sheer craziness. Thanks again! Hope to visit soon!

    • This is a beautiful serene place. It is well appointed and the grounds are beautiful. Do not book this place if you want to be near a lot of action. It is very out of the way, don't forget the directions given by the owner or you will not find this lovely hide away.

    • Linda and Kenneth have managed to take Host and Hostess to new heights. Our experiences this last week have been relaxing, exhilarating, sensual, educational, and above all pleasurable. The guest book in the hale is a wealth of evaluations on local scenery, side trips, restaurants and favorite spots. The botanical garden at the hale is as beautiful as the Audobon Society Waimea Falls area. We chose this location over several others because of its privacy and serenity. The hale is very comfortable and the special touches by the owners provide that extra warm welcome. Be sure to take advantage of the local produce and your own outdoor cookspace with gas grill. Utensils are provided so do not worry. A few of the favorites we would like to mention include the glider ride at Dillingham Field with Chip, the third fruit stand going north for Del Monte pineapple and champagne mangoes, Foodland at the bottom of the hill for necessities, Pu'u o Mahuka Heiau Memorial before you get to the bottom of the hill, the Soap Factory and Wailua Coffee mill at the old Sugar Mill in Wailua, the Sea Shell Man gift stand in Haliewa and Buzz's Steak House in Pearl City for the best Ahi ever. Thank you again for a lifetime of memories. Jean & Skip Lash East Tawakoni, Texas (Post office is in Point, TX)

    • We arrived at night and were blown away when we woke up to the beauty that surrounded us at this gorgeous hideaway tucked up in the hills. Not only was the inside perfectly done up and well-stocked with everything we needed (including bananas picked from the grounds and left for us to eat) but the yard was just as amazing...lush and green and full of gorgeous plants and flowers. A quick trip to town but felt a world away, it was the perfect getaway for our first trip to Hawaii...we will certainly stay here again when we're back on the North Shore!
