"The house was awesome!!! The best thing that the pics might not tell you is how the house is designed to get the most out of the "corner lot." Unlike all the other mansions in the row that only have their narrow side facing the beach, this house has five bedrooms which can all hear AND SEE the ocean.
Plus, it has an expansive outdoor patio that also faces the beach, which again, is possible only because of the "corner lot" location.
There is a playground just 100 yards from the house, which our kids (age 4-10) played in a lot, and it felt close enough that we could let them be there without an adult. You can even watch them from inside the house, or from the patio.
The master bedroom has got to be one of the most awesome BRs I've ever stayed in. You really feel like you're on top of the ocean. It's so loud! Plus, you can look out over the ocean while showering (the glass is frosted below a certain level, to conceal your "wobbly bits").
The kitchen is tremendous for cooking. Really well laid out, with two sinks, two ovens, two islands, and a 6-burner stove you could work at from both sides of the island. (Bring post-it notes to label the endless amounts of cabinets.)
The long dining table could seat 16 people, with some extra chairs. How great was that! Most times, we had the kids eat outside on the patio.
The Oxnard beach is a great, especially if you like big waves. Kids under 8 really couldn't hack it without an adult, and on the rougher days, even the 8-10 years olds needed some adult accompaniment. It was a windy two weeks, and it never got above 80 for us, but still we enjoyed it tremendously. Bring lots of beach games! (We also saw lots of dolphins/sea lions)
The screening room got lots of use, too. We probably screened 10 Blurays over the two weeks. The screen had a diagonal of about 10 feet -- and a great picture.
The proximity to shops was perfect. Lots of runs to the grocery store. The two restaurants in that same strip mall were great, too. Fisherman's Catch, and the sushi place. The ice cream place was also fun -- Buttercups? And the ladies got a great pedicure in the nail salon.
The nearest public tennis court was never busy -- we played about 6 times.
We also rented a 12-seater boat to putt around the Oxnard channel at 5mph. Fun for the kids, and lots of gorgeous houses for the adults to look at!
All in all, a great vacation, the best part of which was the "palace" we stayed in."
