Why Katherine Mahoney chose Wayne

My siblings and I grew up coming to Wayne to visit my grandmother. When my father retired he built this house on land that had belonged to my grandmother and after having family and kids myself made the trip to Wayne in every season. When my father passed away my sister and I decided to keep it, improve it and preserve it for our kids and their families. Just 3.5 hours from Boston you couldn't ask for a more beautiful retreat.

What makes this cottage unique

The setting is uniquely beautiful. On every side of the house there are woods, lawns, meadow or lake. There is abundant wildlife and an incredible range of birds to observe from ospreys and bald eagles to hummingbirds and pileated woodpeckers. At night the loons make a racket. It is your private world but you can walk into the center or bike the back roads. I love to take my breakfast or my yoga mat out to the deck in the morning and remember why I am so grateful.

Lovely house on beautiful lake setting

  • 5 of 5

Excellent lake house situated on beautiful Lake Androscoggin. Well appointed house yet very comfortable and homey. The expansive grounds on the property are lovely and the private dock, although a short walk from the house, comes with kayaks, sups and deck chairs. Lots of wildlife too. A perfect place to unplug and relax with family and friends.

Beautiful rental and peaceful location

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful week of summer sun and fun. House was absolutely beautiful and well appointed with comfortable furniture. Kitchen had everything you would need to make a special dinner. Waterfront has a lovely view of the lake and saw a variety of birds. Water isn’t deep at the dock but can float out and enjoy the refreshing lake. Had a wonderful vacation!! Thanks Katherine

Lovely and relaxing

  • 4 of 5

The property is nicely taken care of, clean and well furnished; you'll have everything you need. The walk through the woods to the dock is very pretty and it is a beautiful place to sit and relax. The homeowner was very good at communicating with us and shared a lot of useful information about the home and area attractions. The only thing I'd like to mention is that although the walk to the dock is beautiful, it could be a bit of a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Maine and it was always nice to come back to this place to "recharge" for our next adventure.

Excellent family vacation destination

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautiful...the pictures do not do it justice. The lake is peaceful and serene. The owner provided loads of useful information and was willing to answer any questions we had before we arrived. Our visit was all we could expect. We would definitely return in the future.

Peaceful and relaxing get away.

  • 5 of 5

Walking into this home you are greeted with a spectacular view of the wild flower garden and lake. Secluded and peaceful, what more could you ask for! A lovely wooded walk to the dock to swim, paddle or fish. Two bikes and helmets provided to bike into town to grab a lobster roll or sit on the porch of The Old Firehouse Cafe. So many amenities made for a most enjoyable vacation! Already thinking about next summer. Thank you!
