This peaceful property is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on the mountain above Waimea Valley. The air is cool and breezy and there is plenty of shade from the big mango and coconut trees. This traditional redwood plantation home has been remodeled and decorated with new furniture making it very cozy and clean. There is plenty of very safe, off-street parking within the property gates. Sharks Cove Beach, Three Tables Beach and Waimea Bay are just a 6 minute drive down Pupukea Road. Pupukea road is a residential rode without traffic. Sharks Cove has plenty of eating areas, rental shops, a coffee shop and a large grocery store. About Gavin Beschen
Gavin, Kendyl and their two children live in a fancy yurt on the back corner of the acre. The property is split and there is a fence separating the front half of the yard with the vacation rental and the rest of the property where the owners live. Although they like to give guests privacy, they are happy to interact with guests and offer any assistance they can. Gavin Beschen is a professional surfer and guests may book private surf experiences with him. Kendyl is a yoga and music teacher and offers private yoga and music lessons as well.
Gavin Beschen purchased this House in 2016
Why Gavin Beschen chose Pūpūkea
We owned a home down by the beach for over 15 years and although our family surfs daily, we wanted to have more space, peace, and privacy so we moved up to beautiful Pupukea. Our property is such a short drive from the all the best beaches on the North Shore, yet when we are ready to leave the beach we are able to escape the traffic, noise and heat and come up to this peaceful sanctuary.
What makes this House unique
This property is so quiet and the neighborhood is very peaceful and charming. The home can sleep 8 and is very private. The temperature is also much cooler in Pupukea so AC is not necessary. Fans are available for use, but with the cool breeze most people don't even use the fans.

Love the breeze in Pupukea
We've stayed in many parts of the north shore, in lots of plantation homes and on the beach, but the breeze in Pupukea is just fantastic. Owners were so kind and great. Property was clean, and roomy. Great value, loved our stay. Mahalo
We will definitely stay here again.
Loving the authentic Pupekea experience!
We usually stay by the beach on the North Shore and this was our first time staying up the hill in Pupukea. It’s just about a 5 minute drive down the hill to the ocean but the air was nice and cool on the mountain. We also loved this neighborhood! It was so spacious and quiet and all the properties are very beautiful. It also felt much more safe than the beach rentals and we loved parking within the property gates. The property itself was so peaceful and the grounds were gorgeous. The home accommodated our party of 8 nicely and had everything we needed. The owners were friendly and helpful.
Pros and Cons
So many great things about this property: The location was wonderful in a quiet, lush, peaceful neighborhood on the north shore.
This house accommodated our large family with plenty of beds.
The owners were nice and left us to ourselves.
The beach mats, umbrella, and sand toys were great to use. The beach chair was pretty rusty. We didn't use them, but the bikes looked great to use.
I appreciated items in the kitchen and having laundry soap provided with a washer and dryer just outside the house (a cookie sheet would be a great thing to add!).
Some things that need to be improved on: when we arrived there were tiny little ants on the kitchen counters and in the master bedroom. This lasted throughout our stay though we cleaned up after ourselves in the kitchen. We would all brush off our beds to make sure there weren't any bugs before we went to bed each night. One son put on mosquito spray every night before bed. :)
The hallway bathroom room door didn't lock. The drains in both bathrooms were extremely slow.
There are two standup fans for the house. With four bedrooms, it would have been nice to have an additional two standup fans or ceiling fans in every bedroom. On the sunny days, the bedrooms without standup fans were slightly uncomfortable to sleep in (temperature-wise).
All in all, we appreciated the house and it was a wonderful week in HAWAII!
We stay 12days. nice location and great tropical garden.
We will stay next year again. Thank you!
Quaint, but Failed to Meet Expectations
This home is in a beautiful location up a mountain on the North Shore. It's a very short drive to many popular beaches and the Historic town of Haleiwa. The owners were friendly and our son loved playing with their son. If you want to stay like a local this is the house for you. With that said, I don't think we were expecting the house itself, to be quite as rustic and local feeling as it was. There were a few easy things that could have been fixed up on the house to make the visit a little more comfortable. Many of the doors didn't fit the doorways properly so they wouldn't open or close all the way. The window was missing in the master bath which actually made it quite chilly on one of the stormy nights. There was obvious termite damage in the living room and paint could have been touched up. This one is really not the owner's fault, but we had a big ant problem in one of the guest rooms. We were super careful with food and no food was even brought into that room. Due to the fact that we essentially couldn't use that room we had to sleep 3 to the only other king bed which led to none of us getting a good nights sleep. Some of the other reviews were a little misleading. If you're coming up with some buddies and basically just need a place to sleep then this is the place for you. For myself, I like vacations to feel a little more luxurious and relaxing than home and this rental didn't reach that mark. Again the owners were great and the area is wonderful, I just don't think it was a good fit for our family as it failed to meet our expectations.
We are very sorry the home didn’t meet your expectations. The doors have been freshly painted and they are now fitting correctly. The bathroom window has also been repaired. There is absolutely no termite damage in the house, as we purchased it in 2016 and had a home inspector’s clearance. If there were damage we would not have been able to get our mortgage. There is however wood beatle damage in the grand piano in the living room that creates some droppings under the piano. It’s a beautiful piano and we allowed our friends to keep it at our home until they move into a larger home. The kitchen and both bathrooms are newly remodeled and all the furnishings in the whole house are brand new. Yet, although it’s been remodeled, it is an older traditional redwood plantation home, which is why it is priced much lower than most of the new rental homes on the North Shore.
We are 2.4 miles away from the beach on the mountain just above Waimea Valley. It's very central because Foodland Grocery Store, The Coffee Bean and all the shops and eateries are just a 6 minute drive down Pupukea Road. Pupukea Road is a residential rode that never has traffic. Waimea Bay is also just down the road. Pipeline is about ten minutes to the east while Chuns Reef and Laniakea (The famous Turtle Beach) are about ten minutes to the west. Haleiwa town is 7 miles away.
