Why Walter & Linda Bujak chose Alto

This property is amazing! It has 750 feet of very accessible riverfront property. A perfect swimming area. Rapids to give you that special I am on a river sound. A deep fishing hole out front that produces amazing catches of all kinds of different species of fish. Abundant wildlife to watch and witness. Simply amazing!

What makes this cottage unique

Most vacation rentals (over 95%) are on lakes with houses very close to each other. Not many vacation rentals on rivers. We call it the River House due to the fantastic views of the river from inside the house. While standing in the middle of the house looking north, you will see the Thornapple river from every single window, west, north, and east.

Peaceful, relaxing home on a beautiful river!

  • 4 of 5

We loved waking to the sound of the gentle river rapids amid the various bird calls! The house is lovely, with pretty much everything you will need for a weeks stay other than food and clothes. It is close to a plethora of things to do and see and we found two great restaurants within a couple of miles, Mike’s Pizza and Nighthawk Restaurant are both wonderful!

Relaxing Rolling River

  • 5 of 5

Our stay @ "The River House of Alaska" was a wonderful reminiscent back to FUN & youth!I grew up in Alaska, MY ol' Stomping grounds:):).S

Some things have changed, as to be expected still, so much remains the same!

The cottage itself was sweet. With a few needed updates it'd be delightful but, all in all it is adorable and the outside grounds are AWESOME! The RIVER itself is MAGICAL & made up for everything!

We do hope to come back sometime and actually experience more outside activities (our stay was late Oct:)

We did leave a few items there, not of to great importance just used a lot (beloved, inherited items ) they are/were in the drawer by stove. the wooden handle Chefs knife, big old white spoon, green spatula & blk can opener also, my Curling brush & wht Conair straightener are in the bathroom hanging behind the door, they are fairly new

so maybe, possibly if any way someday we can make a trip out there to retrieve these things? Or, you could leave them in a bag someplace? Actually , it's really not a big deal..just to me,ya know?.lol! Not a pressing issue at this time. Just be nice to have back .

Wally & Linda, Thank you much for keeping in touch.

Your contact & concern with things ment/ means a-lot!.

Owner's Response: Hello Jo and David, Greetings from the River House of Alaska Michigan. we are so glad you had a good time while relaxing at the River House. So sorry you fell ill and had to cut your visit short. We certainly hope you do come back to enjoy the beautiful property and our beloved River House. We do agree that the 90 year old River House is in need of updates and we are working toward improving the River House every year. Last year we installed a new furnace and A/C system, a very large expense. Since you left, we installed a new water softening system and a new sleeper sofa in the living room. We are planning on replacing the area rug in the living room also. We cut down a large Mape tree this year (another large expense) and we are hoping to put a new deck on the River House in 2018. So yes, we are always trying to update the River House and make it better and better for our guests. Next time you visit, we hope you will be able to enjoy the improvements we have made and our quaint Village of Alaska Michigan. See you again soon! Linda and Wally Bujak

Outstanding view of the beautiful Thornapple River.

  • 5 of 5

For me this was the perfect place to relax and be renewed. The swing by the river was very peaceful and enjoyable. The charming home had wonderful views of the river. A great location to Grand Rapids. We could enjoy small day trips and still enjoy the beautiful setting of the "River House." Thank you Linda and Wally for sharing your beautiful treasure! Looking forward to our next stay:)

Home again in Michigan

  • 5 of 5

My brother and I traveled from California to Grand Rapids for a family reunion in October. When we saw the photos of the property, it brought back great memories of Sunday drives along the Thornapple River with our dad when we were kids.

The trees were just beginning to turn color, and we are so glad that we chose the River House as the base for our visit. We enjoyed the relaxing setting listening to the birds singing and the water rippling over the rocks while watching the fish jump and the ducks swim.

The house is clean and comfortable, and Wally & Linda are the best owners/hosts ever! This is where we will stay again the next time we return to Michigan.

A highlight of the summer for our family!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed here 3 consecutive summers. Each visit has been a highlight of the season. And was requested by our grandchildren.

The setting is beautiful, accommodations clean, well maintained, and every provision makes The River House completely family friendly.

Hosts Wally and Linda are wonderful. Both are welcoming, thoughtful, responsive, and accessible. Thank you for another good visit!

A wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I stayed here and we can't begin to say how much we loved it. The house was very unique and lovely. It was very clean and you had everything at your disposal. It was well stocked. The grounds and the river were beautiful. We sat out by the river and watched the wildlife go about their business. We even had the pleasure of seeing a bald eagle fly by. It was very peaceful. It is also a good place to make a home base for sightseeing. While we were there we went to Meijer Gardens and The Gilmore Car Museum. Both places were not far from the cottage. We will certainly go there again, in fact we already made a reservation for next year. We can't wait to go back.
