House is approximately one hour from Sturgis/ Deadwood/ and the Badlands.
Our family bought this house after Hurricane Katrina sent us north for a couple of years. We loved it, and decided to keep it for summers. We hope to someday move here permanently.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
Proximity to downtown Hill City, but still feels woodsy.
We love the burgeoning arts scene in Hill City, as well as the small town feel. Swimming in the lakes, fishing, hiking and biking the trails are favorite summer past times.
This home has a great view of downtown, and yet deer walk by te window in the early morning and evening. We love the open great room, with the catwalk crossing overhead. We love that it is comfortable both for adults and children. The fireplace when it is cool/cold is lovely.
Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for allowing us to stay in your home last week. What a beautiful place you have. We had a realy good time and enjoyed our stay. Being so close to the town, and of course with all the riding we did, we didnt have to cook while we were there. But you have everything anyone would need. Thanks again for offering your home for others to enjoy, if we ever come that way again I will keep you in mind. God bless you and your family.
Great quiet location and home has all the room and comfort need for 3 couples! Plan to stay there again in very near future!
We were very happy with this beautiful Hill City rental home. It is clean and well furnished and stocked with linens and kitchen utensils. The furniture is modern and comfortable, and the fixtures and appliances are nice and in good working order. Other reviewers had complaints about the beds being squeaky and uncomfortable, but we didn't have that issue - the bed in the master bedroom was very nice, and I didn't hear any complaints from the rest of my family about their beds. The layout is very open and spacious but also allows for guests to go into a separate room for a little privacy if needed. It is located in a quiet neighborhood with a nice view of the town and 1880 Train yard. All of the local attractions are within easy driving distance, and there is a grocery store only minutes away. The only disappointment was the lack of an internet connection at the house, which I think in this era is not so much of a luxury as a necessity. There are public places nearby which offer free wifi; however, this was inconvenient. We survived without it, but would very much like to see it added as a feature to the property. In all, this was a very nice house to come "home" to after a long day of touring the Black Hills and I would definitely rent it again in the future.
It was a great house having all the amenities of a full kitchen, multiple bathrooms, linens, and laundry. The downfalls were the very very dusty fans and the squeaky and very uncomfortable master bed. The other beds were comfortable. We loved the porch that overlooked the 1880 Train. Plus it was our alarm clock in the morning. The house had plenty of space for everybody to spread out. I would recommend the house to anybody.
This was a great place to stay. Great for the 6 kids we had in our group. They had a place to play upstairs if the weather was bad and lots of places to roam by the cabin if the weather was good. It over looks the 1880 train which the kids loved to watch the train. The cabin has everything you need to cook your own meals and a big living room to hang out with family and friends. We had 10 people in the cabin and had plenty of room to play family games and talk. The only down fall of this cabin were the beds. The queen upstairs is uncomfortable and creeks all night long. We put the mattress on the floor after the first night and it was better. The queen and 2 twins down stair were uncomfortable but at least they didn't creek when you slept in them. The cabin is centrally located in the town and most everything is a short walk away.
We stayed here right before the July 4th holiday. It was the PERFECT location from which to explore the Hills. The house overlooks the 1880's Train yard and the littlest ones in our group (and some of the older ones, too!) loved watching the trains in the morning. The pictures online don't do justice to this house. It is lovely, well-equipped, and well-maintained. The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of seating for socializing, abundant towels and linens, and more than enough kitchen gear to cook for our group of 8. There were toys for the toddlers and plenty of space for the teenagers to get away from the group when they wanted (the loft, renamed "The Roost," was a particular favorite. The owners were responsive and helpful. Very positive experience!
Arrived on a Monday in September with beautiful 80 degree weather! We were pleasantly surprised by the house. The pictures online do not do the house justice. It is a spacious, lovely home. Four adults were very comfortable in this house. Plenty of privacy for two couples, the bedrooms were comfortable with plenty of storage space. The kitchen and dining area was very functional and worked well for the meals we had there. The living room was very homey. The décor was tasteful. The weather changed quite a bit throughout the week and we woke up Thursday, September 11, to 6 inches of snow and a temperature of 18 degrees!! The house in the snow was absolutely gorgeous!! The snow did not hinder our ability to enjoy the location or the home, as we rode the train, drove through Custer State Park, and built a fire in the wood stove. We loved watching the deer in the yard every day. The house has a beautiful view of the train and the town. It is private, yet within walking distance of restaurants, shops, etc. Very conveniently located to the Black Hills area, including Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, and Mount Rushmore. The owner was friendly and available to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this property!
