South Kona Hideaway is a licensed Bed and Breakfast near some of the best snorkeling Hawaii has to offer. We are situated between Honaunau (Place of Refuge) and Kealakekua Bay at an elevation of 800 ft. Your beautifully decorated suite has a living room with a queen sofa bed, large flat screen television with cable, HBO, and Showtime. Your living room opens onto a large lanai, where you can relax and have a cocktail before grilling some fresh fish you bought a mile up the street. Your spacious kitchen has a sink, microwave, toaster, full-sized refrigerator/freezer, and dining table. There is a small camp oven and stove on your front porch. The bedroom has a king sized Sleep Number bed for your comfort, and private bath with shower.

We are easy to find, located approximately 45 minutes South of the airport, 30 minutes South of Kailua-Kona (town), and 20 minutes South of Keauhou. The volcano is approximately a two hour scenic drive. Your suite has dedicated parking, and a private entrance.

We are a small B&B, with only two suites, and we live on site. Don't know what to see? We can give you some recommendations.

About Tina Snapp and Keri Jones

After many trips to Hawaii, we finally bought a home and relocated here in 2012 from Colorado. Tina is a retired nurse and Keri is a veterinarian. We have travelled the world in search of the best snorkeling, and this rivals the best. We are willing and happy to help with recommendations, but will otherwise be out of your way.

Why Tina Snapp and Keri Jones chose Kona Coast

South Kona Hideaway is one of the most relaxing places we've ever stayed. The property is beautiful, the sunsets incredible, and you're only 10 minutes from beautiful live coral and brightly colored fish. Your own lanai and a cocktail... What more could you want?

What makes this house unique

Your continental breakfast of fresh fruits and home made baked goods will be delivered to your unit the night before and ready when you are. You can get up early or sleep in. You will not have to worry about somewhere to park, or being able to find your way back at night on a one lane jungle road. We are only half a mile off the main highway, on a 'full sized' paved road. Snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and boogie boards are available to borrow during your stay.

The Aloha Spirit lives !!!!

  • 5 of 5

We're so grateful that we stayed with Tina and Kerri. It felt like home. The introduction to different Fruits and the Homemade Muffins were worth the trip alone. The location is perfect. Two-Step is minutes away with some of the best snorkeling on all of the Islands. We swam with wild Dolphins, 3 Eagle Ray's and more colorful Fish than you can count. Kona's about 30 minutes North so it's really peaceful at the Hideaway. After we stayed there for 8 days then we went to Maui for 2 weeks and even though we had fun there not a day went by with thinking about the S. Kona Hideaway ! The Big Island is awesome. Seeing Lava entering the Ocean was a top Nature moment in 55 years. It's an adventure to find the right kind of Beach for you but once you do, it'll overwhelm your Beach Spirit. I'm already researching another trip there for a different time of year to see a different season and taste new Fruits! Thanks to Tina and Kerri again, Charles and Noreen

Owner's Response: You both were given many gifts from Pele! We went and saw the lava flow after your trip and it was amazing. Next time we're going to follow you around so you can show us some of the hidden spots you found. Hope we see you again soon.

Perfect place.

Tina and Keri know the meaning of the word Aloha! Really appreciated how welcome they made me feel. Just minutes from Kealakekua Bay. Went snorkeling out into the Bay with some friends and before we knew it we were surrounded by dolphins. Couldn't believe that I had just lucked out picking a great place two minutes from what is now one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Really enjoyed Tina's morning breakfast of muffins and exotic fruits. Until we meet again Thanks for your hospitality and genuine warmth! P.S. Thanks for letting me borrow the flippers. True Hawaii feeling!

  • 5 of 5

Our biggest regret of our trip was that we didn't stay here longer. The place is spacious and very well equipped, they even provide a bunch of beach equipment so you don't have to go and rent anything. The view out the back is amazing, you are just looking straight into the rain forest. Breakfast is brought to you every evening so that you don't have to worry about waking up early, and the homemade muffins that were provided were by far the best I've ever had.

If we make it back to the big island again this is where we will stay.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a nice stay. The muffins are one of a kind with all the fruit and avos from the garden. Hope to see you back for a longer stay!

We have booked a number of HomeAway rentals over the years and this was one of the best. We spent three weeks travelling around the Big Island and chose the South Kona Hideaway because it looked like a good spot for a quiet final week where we could just chill out and visit a few beaches. The apartment was very comfortable and good value. It was well equipped and well planned and met all our expectations. Getting breakfast for the next day delivered every evening was an unexpected treat, and other bonuses were being able to help ourselves to papayas and avocados and the large range of beach equipment we could borrow. Lovely helpful hosts.

There are two apartments on the property and it would make a good place for a family are friends who want to vacation together but also have some privacy.

Owner's Response: We were so happy to hear that this was the best stop on your big island adventure. The avos are still falling!

A Little Bit of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

About a 20 minute drive south of the hustle and bustle of Kona, this relaxing refuge, along with the generous hosts, was a great way to end our Hawaiian vacation. During our 3-day visit, we enjoyed fantastic breakfasts of exotic, tropical fruits (and muffins), courtesy of our hosts. They also provide beach chairs, snorkeling gear, boogie boards, coolers, etc. for their guests. Though this rental is close (10-min drive) to one of the best snorkeling spots on the Big Island (Two Steps at Honaunau), we preferred to snorkel and to relax on the beach at Kahaluʻu Beach Park (about 20-min north & arrive before 10AM to find parking).

We would surely recommend this rental to friends, and we sincerely hope to return someday.

Mahalo to Tina and Keri.
