About Marcus Mattila

We know how important the details are to create a wonderful vacation experience. I have worked hard making 'Towering Pines Lodge' a retreat for your next vacation to South Lake Tahoe. This house is perfect for a couple or you can fill every pillow to the max, 9 people. Either way, for the price, I can not imagine what else you would need to make your vacation better. Our house is clean, casual, cozy and perfect for your next vacation:) Enough about our house!!

Marcus Mattila purchased this house in 1994

Why Marcus Mattila chose South Lake Tahoe

It is loaded with everything you need for a vacation! You can Cross Country Ski, Bike, Hike or Snow Shoe right here, out our back door - without driving. Our neighborhood is wonderful. We are in the forest and we live on a deadend street, but we are only a short drive to the Casinos, Heavenly, Stateline, NV.

The private hot-tub is the newest edition to Towering Pines Lodge. Imagine yourself in the dark of night with 1000's of stars sparkling above, in silence all while sitting in 104 degree, bubbling water. Ahhhh, so sweet:)

There are many US Forest Service trails at the end of the street to the Best Beaches of Tahoe, Fallen Leak Lake, Camp Richardson, and the Beacon. In the winter there is even a groomed track for snow shoeing and cross country skiing.

What makes this house unique

It is rare to find a house like ours for this price. The house is loaded with all the comforts to make your vacation wonderful. The house is super, super Cozy AND Clean which is a tough find for a South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals. Many of our clients have rented our house over and over again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Ashley,

Sorry for the late response! I wanted to thank you so much for letting us use your beautiful home! It was the first time my family celebrated Christmas somewhere else besides my parents house in 28 years. Everyone was so pleased with the house and they are already talking about their next trip to Tahoe. Your house had everything we needed and things we didn't know we needed making my families trip so relaxing. My father owns a furniture store and wanted me to tell you that if you are ever in need he would love to trade furniture for another stay (fully understanding that it would exclude holidays). Again thank you so much for everything and thank you for waiving the dog fee, that was very sweet of you!!

Have a great day!!

Family friendly and great location for access to all things Tahoe.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here several winter weekends. It is on a dead-end road near the national forest, which made for great afternoons walking and playing in the snow. It is very easy access to both Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resorts. A very short drive to lots of places to eat and grocery shopping is less than a mile. The street gets plowed by the city frequently. The lodgings are comfortable and good for two families (there's extra "beds" in the large master). There is a big back-yard and you are pretty close to the lake, so it would probably be a fun place in the summer.

Nice home well taking care of...(I have a feeling somebody’s watching me)

  • 2 of 5

The place was very nice and well taken care of. Ashley was flexible with some of our last minute changes which was great. The kitchen was little small. The only bad part of our stay was that we think one of the owners (Marcus) was staying or lived next door. We felt like we were being watched and at the time of our departure neighbors along with next door neighbor(Marcus) were outside talking to one another pointing at our direction. They made a remark because my brother started his car while he was loading it up with his and his family’s stuff. I’m a home owner myself and have a beautiful Napa home I take good care of it and would not trash another persons home or mistreat it. So if you don’t mind having the feeling that your being watched or nieghbors pointing and talking about you then this is your place to stay. That’s why I’m only giving 2 stars.

Owner's Response: We hate so much you felt this way. This Home had been a vacation rental for 9 years. Each year we invite 30 to 50 families stay in our home, none of them never feeling this way. Neighbors are a real thing when you choose to stay in a vacation Home verses a hotel. I can assure you that our neighbors are attentive, but do not have the time or energy to spy on you. Our neighbors are fabulous and love our guests as long as they are quiet and park in the drive way.

Relaxing Weekend at a great house!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had an amazing weekend at the "Towering Pines" house. The house was really set up for 6-8 people (we had 6) and it was awesome that we could bring our dogs too! The grill and the hot tub were awesome, and the fenced-in back yard was great for letting the dogs run around a bit. The house was really close to town, and the trails off the end of the street were beautiful! Overall, this house is the perfect place to spend a weekend in South Lake Tahoe. We would absolutely rent from Ashley again, she was wonderful and very accommodating.
