About Beth Rinzler

Am an expat of Manhattan but grew up outside of Boston.

Beth Rinzler purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Beth Rinzler chose Berkshires

For years my family rented a tiny cottage in the area so as to escape the city in the summer. We began loving it more and more and making our weekends longer and longer. When we made the leap to move up full time, we chose this location

because it is on border of Berkshire and Columbia Counties, near all the bright lights, yet very peaceful and tranquil. We were hoping to find a property with one distinguishing feature; we never expected to find one with so many bells and whistles.

What makes this cottage unique

Swimming , canoeing, walking around the pond, enjoying the gardens, lazing about the property ,watching the hummingbirds skim past the flowers. Reading under a 100 year old tree. Listening to the trickle of the stream.

Fresh air. sipping that first cup of coffee outside, exercising on the gazebo. Yoga. Meditation. Slowing down.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved being at your cottage. It was just what we wanted - quiet, beautiful, peaceful.

Deb enjoyed the swimming in the pond and we enjoyed sitting in various parts of your property and just reading.....

Cozy and charming romantic hideaway in New York close to the Berkshires

  • 5 of 5

This was a great find and a gem. From this guest house on a spacious secluded property you can see the main house at a distance, but you have a real sense of privacy. Paramount is that this is a gorgeous property, with rolling fields, woods, deer who come up to the house, two lily ponds à la Monet, and a beautiful formal garden. Sitting indoors at the dining table, looking right out the window the first thing you see are these four lush garden plots with obvious attention to color and to avoiding symmetry. Further on, there is a partly covered platform over the larger pond with two comfortable deck chairs. You just want to stay there. And there is even a canoe. Also a place for outdoor dining and grilling.

The house is well appointed with everything you would need in the kitchen. There is a wood burning stove for colder weather, and the bed is very comfortable. The good size main room (with bed and dining table) is bright and airy. Everything is clean and in good working order.

The hostess is charming, bright, sophisticated, helpful, casual and discrete, and will respect your privacy, but also has loads of tips to hand out. She has a notebook with much information about the surrounding areas, which was good because we have never stayed on the New York side of the border at the Berkshires. It is convenient to all the cultural benefits of being in Western Mass, including Tanglewood and Mass MoCA, the Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Shakespeare and Company. Jacobs Pillow is of course farther off, but it is always a bit of a trip.

We ended up spending a fair amount of time at the cottage and the pond, because we wanted to relax and it is such an inviting place. I was a bit concerned about being on the New York side of the border, but it is as close to the heart of the Berkshires as the description says it is. And it is close to Great Barrington which is one of our favorite cities in the area.

We hope to be back.

Owner's Response: Stan, Thanks so much for the lovely and comprehensive review. I loved having you both on the property and hope to see you again. Don't overlook fall or spring since it's a short journey for you and there's all of the Hudson Valley to explore as well. Beth

Cozy, Pretty, Private

  • 5 of 5

Lovely little cottage with gorgeous views out of picture window of lovely garden. Beautiful pond with chairs outside to relax and contemplate... This place is perfect is you are seeking privacy. The bed was extremely comfortable, which is not always the case, so that's important, even if a bit smaller than we are used to. Honestly described by the owner, so as expected. Kitchen was efficiency-style, with all needed dishes and utensils, but we ate out so other than coffee we didn't use it. The driveway was a bit difficult to find the first time as our GPS thought the address was much further up to road, so a clearer marking might be helpful to visitors. Beth was really helpful; we had tickets for Tanglewood while we were there and I had somehow forgotten to bring a sheet to put our things on; Beth left us some extra towels we could use for that, as well as responded to any small questions and concerns in a kind and timely manner. It was too cold for us to use the pond, unfortunately, so perhaps we'll return in better weather! Thanks so much - we enjoyed our stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review Tara, I really enjoyed having you and Alex and do hope you return. Fall foliage (Oct.) and May and June are lovely times. I swam today in the pond, probably for the last time this year. Sigh. It's the best, so summer's definitely worth another try. Best, Beth

A piece of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Beth is a gracious owner who goes out of her way to take care of her property, and ensure that her clients are comfortable during their stay. The accommodations are ideal for a couple, and the view from the room is beautiful. Also, because the room is located in a corner of the property, there is ample privacy. The room has its own ingress and egress thereby enhancing privacy even further. Would definitely recommend this for love birds and others who are romantically inclined! The bathroom takes a little getting used to, but adds to the overall charm of the cottage. Internet access was good.

Quiet, charming retreat

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay in this lovely area. Despite a string of days with unseasonable summer weather (rain and clouds) we enjoyed short jaunts to visit friends and enjoy nearby music, dance, museums, and local restaurants.

Peaceful Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We spent five nights here and loved the peace and quiet. The cottage was spacious and well-stocked. The owner respected our privacy but was available for anything we did need. We enjoyed swimming in the pond, which was not mucky, but very clear. The road is lovely to walk on, wooded on both sides. We were able to get excellent, reasonably priced meals in Chatham (15 minutes away) every night. We found several scenic hikes nearby, and were able to get to historic sites and hikes in Massachusettes in about 20 minutes. We plan to return.

A Little Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this beautiful and romantic cottage and property. The view from the cottage includes a very well kept perennial garden and pond. We had our morning coffee in the gazebo facing the pond where we saw a red wing blackbird and a hummingbird amongst many other species. It was lovely to wake up to the sounds of birds and frogs. The cottage is very comfortable and clean. The kitchen has every pan, pot or utensil you'll need. We took day trips to neighboring towns such as Great Barrington, Stockbridge, and Chatham. Don't miss the Bash Bish Falls hike where you can see a local waterfall. On this trip we also visited The Clark which is a fine art musuem in WIlliams, Mass - a great find particularly if you're interested in representational painting. In the past, we've also enjoyed the contemporary exhibits at MASS MoCa and the incredible musical offerings of Tanglewood.

If you like fresh and innovative cuisine with delicious vegetables, try The Blue Plate in Chatham, NY. For an outstanding grilled cheese sandwich, make sure to go to Rubi's in Great Barrington.

Beth is a very gracious and kind host who is friendly and also respects your privacy. She is easy to reach if you have any concerns.
