Additionally, the cabin is stocked with plenty of fresh linens and towels, soaps and detergents, paper towels and trash bags along with a unique collection of cooking utensils. About Gary Burke

We moved to the mountains of North Carolina in 1990 to get out of the hectic city of Dallas, Texas. We had been looking for somewhere to build that was lakefront or creek-front when we discovered this property in Dillsboro that was on beautiful Dick's Creek. We bought it and I built the cabin for us to live in. Eventually I was able to acquire adjacent property and built another home. We liked the original cabin too much to sell so we decided to place it on the vacation rental market so others could enjoy it.

Gary Burke purchased this cabin in 1992

Why Gary Burke chose Smoky Mountains

15 acres of prime mountain property with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park bordering the West ridge property line and Dick's Creek bordering the East property line. The cabin sits in a private location on the corner of the property backing up to the creek.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is not your average rental cabin. I'm a custom builder and originally built it to live in and did until building another home on the property. It is a great location being centrally located in Dillsboro. You can go one way towards Waynesville and Asheville or the other direction towards Cherokee and Bryson City. The cabin is privately located on 15 acres with no one to disturb you and a wonderful, relaxing back porch to sit on and enjoy the creek. You can make a day out of that. I've lived many places and this is by far the best place so far. You can bet on having four full seasons to enjoy. It's the perfect location. Come and enjoy.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Amazing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I have had the opportunity to vacation at this cabin two years in a row and absolutely love the location and cabin. The cabin is close enough to stores and shops, but is also remote enough that you know you are vacation. The owners have done a fabulous job with this cabin and do everything possible to ensure your stay is relaxing. My kids love the creek and spend a lot of time just enjoying the water, finding rocks, and hiking around the property. Last year, we were even lucky enough to get a little snow flurry. I look forward to creating memories here for years to come.

Wonderful clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 3 nights with our four grandsons ages 10-6. They loved playing in the creek behind the house and playing after dusk in the front yard. Please bring mosquito repellent if playing in creek, we all needed it. The cabin was very clean and roomy and very well maintained and master bedroom suite is huge. The one complaint I had was the air conditioning upstairs isn't adequate and there isn't a ceiling fan in double bedroom, the queen had a ceiling fan. Didn't see a floor fan but if we go back, we will be sure to take one. My husband looked for air controls upstairs, but couldn't find any. He lowered the temp downstairs in family room and had ceiling fan on, which of course made it very cool in family room but was hoping to cool boys rooms upstairs. We had a great time and there are many activities around the area to do. Tubing Deep Creek, hiking, Oconaluftee Indian Village is very interesting...the boys enjoyed that. We went on Tuesday which is when they have the battle scene.-- some days they have the Cherokee dances. We also did the gem mining in Cherokee which they really enjoyed. They all found some gems, emeralds, garnets, topaz and rubies, which they thought was really cool. This is the second year we have done activities in Cherokee and they enjoy it. Last year we took them to "Unto These Hills" which they liked and both the village and the play are very important for them to see historically.

Great experience!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was clean and exactly as advertised. The sound of the creek behind and the quiet and calm sitting on the front porch swing was wonderful. Not even one complaint.

Lacking

  • 2 of 5

The kitchen was good except for the fridge. We were told it wasn't working, then it was so they were not sure. It would not keep ice cream frozen. Half the ice cubes were water. Some major work needs done.

The other major problem was the furniture. It was not comfortable! When we sat down, we went way down. There was no support. We had to pile up cushions to get it to a decent height. And it was torn in areas and stained.

We were glad Gary was there when we arrived or we would have not had any tv as he had to reset everything! He said previous renters must have ruined set up.
