About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, Sleeps 4

Enjoy a five-star luxury stay in a house without any neighbors in this secluded Mt. Hood vacation rental.

Located just outside Zigzag on 24 acres of private, protected wilderness, this charming cabin in the woods offers guests a true escape from it all, with a magical feel everywhere you turn. As soon as you park your car and proceed across the custom, steel bridge, you'll feel the quiet settle in. A short trail takes you past a whimsical swing set and to the front door of this beautiful home. If you glance to your left, you may notice a beautiful chandelier hanging from old growth trees.

After crossing the river rock patio, you enter into the great room - a room of simple, yet vibrant decor and enormous space from the cathedral-style ceilings and sustainably-harvested wood floors. Warm up by the fireplace and enjoy views of the forest and a good book. This forested home is a great place to unplug, so enjoy a break from your cell phone and WiFi.

For the chefs among you, gourmet meals are an every night possibility with the expansive kitchen stocked full of updated appliances and fun gadgets. Dine outside or in - no matter where you eat, you'll have amazing views.

This is a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home, comfortable for four people to share. The bathroom features a walk-in shower with French doors and a river rock floor, adding a sense of luxury to daily task. The downstairs bedroom has a comfortable queen sleigh bed.

The entire upstairs is the master bedroom. Ample natural light and more astounding views make the guests of this room feel like royalty. Snuggle into a Gustavian-style queen bed, with an additional twin day bed for an additional guest. Draw a bath in the antique claw tooth bathtub and feel yourself relax deeply.

Whether you head out with a basket to collect huckleberries and chantrelle mushrooms, hit the slopes at Timberline 22 miles away, or hike around the Government Camp area, this stunning, peaceful Mt. Hood getaway will welcome you back with warmth and wonder.

*Important information: Those with limited mobility, please take note. The trail from the parking area to the home is roughly 150 feet in length and crosses a grated steel pedestrian bridge. Appropriate footwear is required, especially in winter, as this trail is not shoveled. The driveway is plowed only when the snow depth exceeds eight inches, and a vehicle with AWD, chains, and appropriate ground clearance may be required. Bring your own flashlight to get in after dark. It is a dirt trail to the rock stairs.

About Vacasa, OR - Mt Hood / Hood River Office

Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.

Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.

Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!

Charming cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at The Stuga. The surrounding forest is beautiful. The eclectic pathway lighting and adjacent forest landscaping/features were a pleasant surprise. The house is comfortable, the kitchen is well furnished with cooking utensils (bring your own spices, by the way), and the outdoor grill works well. Our beds were comfortable. We enjoyed exploring Mt. Hood and a hike at Trillium Lake.

Pretty sweet

  • 4 of 5

This place is something out of a book. It's super cool and such a private location. The only thing is the bed upstairs is literally a sack of potatoes, I woke up every morning and my back was killing. That's the only complaint, it was a very cool and clean house!

Remote, lovely and comfortable.

Note to owner. Key for lock on road chain doesn't fit. We pulled the chain up and put the lock on it but could not close the padlock. General message. Remote, lovely, and comfortable.

Misleading Pictures! Poor condtions!!

  • 1 of 5

I can't believe what the other guests are writing here. I have never stayed at a property where the pictures were so misleading. The condition of this property doesn't come close to the online pictures. Musty smell in the home. Kitchen could use a deep cleaning, beds are very pillow tops here. Moldy and ripped chair pads, completely overgrown with grass/weeds. Outdoor hot tub/sitting area hadn't been cleaned all summer. Dirt, leaves, needles, and mosquito larva swimming in the water. Disgusting! Garbage over the front railing in the grass. No locks on the windows. Broken apart patio, broken steps, weeds everywhere. Cut wires! Windows unlocked when we arrived. No key for the cable locking the driveway. Complete disregard to guest safety and misrepresentation of the home. I have pictures of all of the things I have described above. They should not only refund my money, but pay me to stay someplace else. My wife and I actually discussed leaving and getting a motel room, but none were available due to a local Relay Race that was taking place that weekend. I wish I took more pictures so you could have a better idea as to how bad this really is. Here is the link to see the pictures: ""

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to see this guest was so disappointed with their stay. The musty odor is common as this home is literally in the middle of the woods (you have to park and hike to it!), the kitchen has been deep cleaned, the outdoor chair pads have been replaced, and we have been able to catch up with the weeds and growth now that we are again allowed to use power tools outdoors now that the high fire risk has passed. Window locks have never been an issue before since the home is secluded, but we will bring it to the attention of the owner. We also have not been able to find any trash outdoors, and the stones and mortar stairs are safe. Thanks!

It is a very magical place. Lots to see and loved being away from the world. Lots of relaxation.

  • 4 of 5

The stuga is a lovely, magical place, with a lot of little details. The only thing I wish there was, is a small fire pit on the patio, so roasting marshmellows at night was not to far. Loved all the magic I found in the woods. (I took so many photos). The soaking tub was not working. But it was a little hot to use anyway. 103 degrees. So climbed the rocks going up the creek to stay cool. It would be nice to know a little more history about the stuga. Year built and stuff. A very relaxing part of the woods. I was inspired to do some drawing and lots of reading. I would highly recommend this wonderful place. Thank you for sharing the magic.
