About this property

Modern Cabin on 41 Private Acres of Spruce and Pine Forest

Important! 4WD or AWD with adequate snow tires or chains are REQUIRED October-April, and parking or abandoning your vehicle on the right of way is illegal in Park County.

While this house should meet the needs of many different types of travelers, we especially built it to be be friendly to families with children.

The open floor plan is designed to keep the living areas away from the sleeping areas and are separated by a pocket door and insulated interior walls so you can go to bed bed early or sleep in without hearing every sound your fellow travelers make in the common areas.

Come relax by the fire and enjoy looking out the many windows and being surrounded by nothing except trees, or maybe the occasional moose, deer or elk. Spend some time eating your meals around a large reclaimed wood table on the covered porch or crowding around the kitchen island while meals are prepared.

Each bathroom has heated toilet seats and the master bath has heated floors.

The guest bathroom is split into individual toilet, tub, and sink rooms to accommodate groups comfortably.

Each bedroom is outfitted with blackout cellular shades which block out the majority of the mountain sun when you'd rather not see it.

Two bedrooms have walk in closets large enough for portable crib or pack-n-play. Both a portable crib and pack-n-play are available for use.

The kitchen cabinets have child locks that can be easily engaged for your stay. Additional items for traveling with kids are available for you use, such as some additional child proofing items, a gate for around the fireplace hearth, a pressure baby gate, a free standing high chair, a booster/high chair, and a Summer Infant child's potty that is of simple design and easily cleaned and sanitized.

*Firewood is the responsibility of the guest but is sometimes available. (We split as much as we can but can't guarantee the supply during your stay.)

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS: 4 wheel drive and snow tires are recommended year round and required October-April. Parking on the road is prohibited.
ROAD PLOW NOTE: The road is maintained and plowed by the county and no guarantees are made to when the roads will be plowed after a storm and can be effected by the severity and duration of the storm as well as the time of day that the storm arrives.
DRIVEWAY PLOW NOTE: We contract a plow company to plow the driveway after a storm where more than 4" of snow falls. The timing of the plow is not guaranteed and may be dependent on the county road plow and the plow company's ability to access our driveway. Please notify us if the wind has caused a snow drift the plow company may not be aware of.

Better than expected!
Pictures don’t do it justice! The night we walked in after a long car ride behind us, we were blown away with everything. From the kitchen to the hardwoods to the bathrooms and everything that was provided (toilet paper, towels, paper towels, etc). We stayed for 9 days and didn’t run out of anything that we needed. We spend many days sitting out on the deck just enjoying the sound of the quiet and the trees blowing in the wind. Our stay was quiet and peaceful and we were able to recharge our batteries just like we had hoped. We lit a fire in the amazing fireplace in the living room our last night and were able to enjoy our last night all cozy with the ambiance of the fire stove. During our stay (not by sight from the cabin, but from our cars about a 1/2 mile or less away), we saw a lot of wildlife including a momma moose and her baby and two separate bull moose. Lots of deer, too! Our last day, we discovered the hot water tank was malfunctioning as we didn’t have hot water. We called the owner and she was so pleasant to talk to and got onto the issue right away! Bethany was so wonderful to work with. You can tell they take pride in their home! Thank you so much for giving us this beautiful piece of CO! We will be back!!

Perfect getaway
As promised, clean, cozy, and the comforts of home. Had a blast and was able to get some work done with a strong wifi. Great hiking right outside, and just a short drive to a bunch of cool towns and attractions. Highly recommend!

Perfect. Amazing.
The property is a quintessentially modern cabin in the woods, at the end of a long driveway and very isolated, which is exactly what we were looking for. We've stayed in lots of VRBO properties in both urban and rural settings, and this was by far the most put-together on many levels. The house features a high-ceilinged entryway with living room/kitchen and three spacious bedrooms in the back. It's beautifully appointed with wood paneling and very cool soapstone (at least we think it was soapstone) countertops. There's a woodstove, but the house has an excellent heating system and stays comfy with the fire or without. It's a lovely property in a beautiful mountain setting with amazing contemporary finishes, but what really stood out is the thoughtfulness of how everything is organized, labeled, and provided for: labels on all the light switches, in-floor heat in the bathrooms to cut the chill, an incredibly well-organized and informative guest book, clear instructions for how to operate everything from the stove to the thermostat to the TV and DVD player, and the kitchen is easily the best-stocked of any I've come across at a rental. So clean and so many amenities! An amazing selection of board games and great taste in movies with 50 or so DVDs. The altitude here can be a challenge, but we focused on drinking LOTS of water and also took either Ibuprofen or Tylenol that first day, which seemed to help. We loved it. Would absolutely return. Thanks for a great stay and congrats on this fantastic house.

About the host

Hosted by Bethany and Jon Lefor

Host profile image
Bethany grew up in Colorado and after living in 4 different states moved back (hopefully for good) in 2010. Jon grew up in neighboring South Dakota but has called Colorado home for over 15 years. A most loved part of both of their childhoods was running around in the woods with their siblings and now their 4 kids get to have that same experience here when they visit.

Why they chose this property

This land and eventual cabin was a completion of their dream to be able to regularly bring the children who came into their lives through foster care into nature and to be refuge where they could recharge. They have since grown to a family of 6 and are grateful to be able to spend time here with the kids whom they are privileged to now call family.

What makes this property unique

Parcels of land this large, private, and densely wooded are so very rare in this area and they fell in love with it immediately. It's hard to believe it's less than 15 minutes from town because it feels worlds away. While they have seen moose, elk, and deer on the property, they are baffled that their guests always seem to have far better wildlife sightings then they ever have and usually right from the dining room window during breakfast.
