Buoux House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Elegantly situated in the Provençal countryside one find "Villa MAS COTE SUD" with its fabulous view on the Luberon mountain. Faces south across a vast and largely uninhabited and quite spectacular valley, in the heart of a 120 acres estate planted with truffles oak trees and lavander, just 2 minutes from the village of Buoux in the Luberon National Park. A very special spot indeed....

Seemingly miles from anywhere with its wide-open spaces, tranquility, great views and wildlife, you're equidistant between the market town of Apt and the medieval and exquisite town of Lourmarin with its galleries and restaurants.Just 10 minutes from Bonnieux, Aix en Provence and Avignon are 45 minutes drive and Marseille airport just over the hour.

Buoux and the surrounding countryside is extremely well known for rock climbing, biking and hiking. With a fabulous old Chateau and an extraordinary medieval fort it's a photographers', hikers' and painters' delight. Also well know in the village and serving excellent meals, are the Auberge de la Loube (see "A year in Provence " by Peter Mayle !) and L' Auberge des Seguins.

This southern portion of an 18th century farm, has been tastefully renovated and awaits your holiday dreams.

It has its own entrance, driveway and parking as well as a pool and side terrace, both of which are private and unseen from the owner's side.

On, the ground floor there is a large private bedroom with bathroom in suite as well as a living/dining room adjoining a fully equipped kitchen.

The kitchen has been designed around an ancient bread oven into the wall centuries ago. The living room opens onto two terraces shaded by two Mulberry trees. From the terraces you are surrounded by impressive views of the Grand Luberon.

From a separate outside staircase you reach the second floor with a small sitting room with TV and fire place. There are also the 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms in suite .

All tensions dissolves as you gaze into the infinite sky and breath the fresh air of this pristine natural setting.

The owner can speak fluent English, which is very helpfull !

About Bernard ROUSSEL

After 15 years spent in Paris for business, Mathilde and I were so happy to start a new life in 1990 in Provence country side.

We can now enjoy nature far away from the rushing life of Paris....

On our estate (120 acres) we grow Lavender and truffles oak trees and of course we manage our two stony houses restored a few years ago.

Bernard ROUSSEL purchased this house in 2004

Why Bernard ROUSSEL chose Luberon Area

Provence and especialy our lettle village of Buoux is such an pleasant place to live that we were wondering why not sharing this place with others.

Every thing is there...

If you like nature, we are surrounded by a wild , green and peaceful landscape.

If you like culture there are so many museums, monuments to see: Pope castle in Avignon, Roman ruins in Arles , Saint Remy de provence, typical provençal villages, the town of Aix en Provence with its lettle streets, bars and old houses etc...

And all that in a secure area, with a nice and sunny weather, not any dangerous animals...and interesting people to meet!!

What makes this house unique

A tremendous area, perfect all year round, sunny country place, living in a very special ancient house, (17 th century) though very comfortable,

Wonderful place to relax

  • 5 of 5

This property looks exactly the same as the pictures. We only stayed for a week but had such a wonderful time we could have stayed for a month. It is very peaceful and quiet yet not far from several interesting places to visit. The house is very clean and the property is immaculately maintained. The owner speaks excellent English and was very helpful. I would highly recommend this property.

What an amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I spent two weeks in May/June of 2015 and had a fantastic time. This place is very special. I saw the pics of the pool and I was sold on renting, but when I got there, I was not prepared for how cool the position of the villa is. It sits up high on a plateau, above and away from the heat and crowds of tourists below. The place is better than the pictures. The view is outstanding and I almost didn't want to leave today. The terrace is the place to be, looking out on the mountains, the valley and the horses, with no other houses in view. Just you and nature. I thought at first those were "hills" across the valley, but then a low flying plane flew down low and it was small, made me realize how big the Luberon really are. And it took me two days of watching the sun rise and set in the valley that there is a whole gorge below, with perfect waterfalls, a fantastic old old fort and tons of hiking trails. You almost don't want to leave. The house is 'rustic elegance' and just perfect. Nice modern appliances and everything works. And the decoration is adorable. And you can't find better hosts that Bernard and Mathilde. So helpful, so friendly and a lot of fun. and about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the valley. It was a joy to come home every night after exploring and sit down to view "my valley". Lots of good descriptions in other reviews, but you should go here. I can't wait to come back.

What a gem

  • 5 of 5

We spent a month enjoying the region from Mas Cote Sud and every day was magical. The house was perfect. Really two master suites and one ensuite with twin beds. The owners are charming, near enough to be of assistance (excellent advice on restaurants, food and they even sell their own truffles) yet, the farmhouse is very private. It feels remote and isolated, but you are only 10-15 minutes from Lourmarin, Apt, and many hill towns, including Bonneiux. An hour to Avignon and Aix-in-Provence, a bit more to Arles, and Marsailles. Enough to see and do (great hikes from the edge of the property) in the region we could have stayed longer. Kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, plenty of dishes & glassware for our party of six. With all the fresh food markets in the region, you'll want to cook. If not, there are restaurants a short drive away. If you're looking for a bit of traditional French country living, with most of the conveniences of the modern world, this is it.

A Dream House

  • 5 of 5

Dear Bernard and Mathilde,

Bernard and I and our three kids so enjoyed our week in Buoux! We shared so many happy moments at your house....the dogs, the horses, the view, the rosé, your kindness, the charm of the house. The list goes on and on. I so hope that we will return soon!

Avec mes meilleures salutations,

Amy

Unbelievable experience, *WILL* return!

  • 5 of 5

It will be nearly impossible to relate just how magical, special, romantic, and stunning La Cote Sud was. In fact, it was life changing. Bernard and Mathilde are consummate professionals, offering some of the most well appointed, clean, and stunning accommodations I have ever seen - and I'm a hotelier by trade! Bernard speaks English quite well, and they are completely ready to help with all sorts of advice, recommendations, and more. They respect your privacy, and are never intrusive, but always available and willing to talk.

What's more, the land and location of Buoux is intoxicating - the lavender fields, the truffle oaks, the cliff edges and massif valley is a sight to behold - something that grabs onto you and never lets go. It felt like a mini Yosemite to me, and adventuring up and down the cliff faces was a joyous surprise. Hiking, Horses, and stunning views, the land was paradise. The century old Fort de Buoux was as impressive as it was mystifying... the Buoux Luberon truly compelled us, and it will be a place we will visit for the rest of our lives. It is remote, so that you feel like you are in a different world, and a different time.

But it is also incredibly near the best of Provence, such as Lourmarin, and Bonnieux. From Farmer's Markets, shopping, wine, and incredible restaurants - it's a perfect location as your home base, with just a little bit of driving (15 minutes, give or take) to get around. For more options, the village of Apt is no more than 20 minutes.

The kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom are immaculate, and the house was perfect for our purposes, in every way! I am a bit tall (6'6" / 2M ) and hit my head if I wasn't aware... but it's not that bad and only in one or two spots. The king size bed was a must for me, and we slept wonderfully!

I will run out of space before finishing my kind words, but I must say thank you to Bernard and Mathilde! THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! We will be back, and miss your estate terribly! What's more - any guests will do themselves a disservice if you leave without some of Bernard & Mathilde's Truffles! They are quite affordable, and incredibly delicious!

Thank you again! - Michael H.

Owner's Response: Dear Michael, Thank you so much for such a delighful letter and review! We receive regularly sweet reviews but yours is so special, full of positive emotion. We are so happy you both spent & enjoyed your stay in Provence & particularly at home. Shure the landscape & sightseeing are quite smashing in Marrenon-we've not done it-god probably did  ! It's a great chance to live here & share with our guests, almost when they are as chearfull than you were. Each word you wrote is a sort of reward for Bernard & I . For shure we have been trying for COTE SUD your house and Mas Augusta and La Baume Victoire to do our best to keep things nice and clean...as if each house was ours but we must pay a tribute to the team who help.Shure they all follow our instructions but it's quite a job for them all and they do their best too. Tomorrow-saturday-the staff will be here=7 persons. I will translate & read them your adorable letter ,i bet they will be enchanted. Anyway we wish you both all the best for the following years. We ' ve been delighted to meet you and Lauren and I hope heartly to see you again at Marrenon a next time and if you wish , share a good bottle of the famous Luberon 'rose'- another way to seal our friendship & next welcoming  back in Provence. Hugge hugs Bernard & Mathilde
