My husband and I decided to celebrate his 60th birthday by taking our 4 sons, their families and his mother to beautiful Hawaii. Finding accommodations for the 15 of us without breaking the bank was our first goal, that left out the pricey hotels but we still wanted the wonderful "instant beach access and breathtaking views" that only the hotels seem to have. We stumbled upon this beautiful hidden paradise on VBRO and couldn't believe our luck! Located on the North shore, this treasure is far away from the intense tourist packed areas of Honolulu, but not so far that you can't drive there in under an hour (depending on traffic, of course!) and get your taste of it. This property is in a prime location on the most coveted beach in the world for surfing during the winter months and we were fortunate enough to experience a storm that brought heavy rains and huge swells right in front of our eyes. Not so fortunate was the fact that during those couple of days we couldn't get into the water due to safety issues, but we thoroughly enjoyed everything else that the house and the beach had to offer and we were amazed by the experts as they tested those waves! The hot tub and pool room are a real bonus, and the dining room table that comfortably seats 16 doesn't overwhelm the main floor, but adds to the comfort and ease for large party meals. The kitchen has 2 refrigerator/freezers...yes 2...with another one in the garage. The cooking appliances are new, easy to use and there are 2 dishwashers. I was surprised how much those and the commercial ice maker came in handy! For those of you that aren't used to beach houses (and this is just steps from it), it's best to understand in advance that the house is open and airy with ocean breezes and ceiling fans constantly keeping the moist air moving and the ocean is noisy. (It is the ocean, BTW!) We live in central WA state and it took us a bit to get used to, but we soon acclimated to the environment...in fact, we miss it! Our 10 day stay on Oahu was too short, mainly because of how much we enjoyed this home and the area it's located in. Don't miss the chance to taste fresh pineapple at the Dole Plantation just 15 min. down the road or the very informative Polynesian Cultural Center further north. Miriam, you are a gem! Always available and very helpful...almost like having our own personal tour guide! We made a promise to come back to visit and we definitely will! Aloha!
I have to say that this was the most impressive home and location I have ever been in. All of the rooms except for one had ocean views. There were plenty of fans for each of the 7 couples to feel comfortable. Although we only had 14 in our party, the home could easily accommodate more. Outside of the 7 separate bedrooms we used, there were two larger common areas with a total of 6 beds between them. The kitchen was beautiful, the living area was above anything I expected, and the patios had the most spectacular views of the sunset.
Shark's cove is within walking distance and we spent nearly every morning snorkeling that beautiful bay. The beach, although not private, felt in every way that it was. During it's busiest days we only ever shared it with between 15 and 20 people spread out across about a 1/4 mile. Many local eateries and hot-spots very close to the property. As we ate breakfast on the patio each morning we often caught glimpses of the passing dolphin pods. I would recommend this to anyone and plan on staying here again.
Recently hosted a wedding gathering at this home and had a wonderful experience. Miriam, the property manager was extremely helpful and responsive - great to work with. The home easily hosted the gathering with a large living/dining/kitchen area. Double washer/dryer and extra fridge in the garage were really helpful also. My family loved sitting on the large lanai, watching the surfers at Pipeline. The only downside was the downstairs bedrooms, which were just okay. All photos are of the upstairs rooms, which were quite a bit nicer. The downstairs rooms are still comfortable, but get photos or see the home in advance if you have high expectations.
We enjoyed a family reunion (20 people) at this wonderful property. Although the description in the listing is a little vague, the property manager did a great job of describing the room configuration and bedding options through email contact, allowing us to make an informed decision whether this property was a good fit for our 5 different families. The lack of twin beds was the only drawback we had because of the number of kids and single adults. But because we were all family, it worked out fine to have shared beds/baths/sitting rooms.
We found ourselves spending hours upon hours just enjoying the view of rainbow sunrises, skillful surfers, and breath-taking sunsets through the large picture window in the dining room (from the perfectly positioned loungers) and from the large lanai just off the living room. While the water was not kid friendly (rough surf), the beach was fantastic and nearly private.
The house was very clean upon arrival, and the optional mid-week cleaning service we hired through the property manager did a great job. Miriam was just a text away for any questions that arose both prior to our arrival and during our stay.
We did find out that the single ice-maker in the kitchen freezer was not enough to keep up with 20 people constantly refreshing drinks, but we simply bought bags of ice at the very convenient market just a mile away.
The property location was great for anyone who enjoys snorkeling, as Sharks Cove was an easy one-mile walk from the house (so you didn't need to hassle with the crowded parking lot). Being so close gave us the opportunity to go twice a day - at high tide for the great snorkeling, and again at low tide to enjoy the resulting tide pools. The house is also a quick 25-minute drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center, and when there's not "turtle traffic", a short 15 minute drive in to the quaint town of Haleiwa.
I highly recommend this listing for anyone looking for a home rather than just a place to sleep, because you may find you never want to leave this beautiful, comfortable house.
My husband and I booked this house for most of the guests attending our North Shore wedding. We had a full house including 5 kids, and stayed for one week. We were looking for a place big enough to hold a catered dinner reception, that would also fit the guests who wanted to share accommodations with us. Some of the furniture in the house has been upgraded since the pictures were taken, and were definitely used throughout our stay. It would be helpful to have a layout of each floor, but I'll try to describe it because it would have been great to know before we got there as well. Lower level: 1) Billiards room has the billards table, 2 double futon beds, full bathroom, access to the laundry room. (I was told that the futons weren't very comfortable to sleep on); 2) middle bedroom with queen sized bed (shares bathroom with #3); 3) bedroom with queen sized bed; 4) bedroom (that can only be accessed from outside!!! under the patio) has a queen sized bed with twin trundle underneath, and separate single futon (ceiling is lower on this whole floor). Main (2nd) floor: amazing kitchen with large fridge and freezer, dining room, living room, patio with large BBQ and super comfy couch, and 1 master suite with full bathroom. Top (3rd) floor: 1) corner master suite with private bathroom (this was our room and it was amazing!), 2) middle master suite with private bathroom (smaller of the 3 top suites), 3) sitting/reading area with 2 double futon beds that is separated but connected to 4): grand master suite with large private bathroom. Sitting area is great, but is open to any noise from the stairwell/kitchen, so not recommended for kids or light sleepers. We all had an amazing time and I did my best to split the cost based on room type and bathroom sharing, which I believe worked out well. It was an amazing week and definitely worth the price when using all bedrooms, especially when you consider the incredible location. We all had problems finding the turnoff for the house, but it got easier with landmarks. For the most part, with 8 different families, essentially, we did our own thing except for the wedding, and it worked out really well. We kept the noise only as loud as the waves, and thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable, cozy house. The owner and house manager were great to deal with and very accommodating when we needed something. If we ever get the opportunity, I would definitely stay here again. It was one of the highlights to our wedding experience!
This house is amazing! We got married on the North Shore and many of our friends flew over from the mainland. We were able to house most of them in this house and had a wonderful time catching up with all of them. This was the perfect environment for relaxing and bbqs! The bedrooms and bathrooms are beautiful and the beds are very comfortable. The main kitchen and living area are perfect for gatherings. We then spent many evenings on the patio watching the waves roll in. So peaceful and such a joy to stay here. Many great memories. We have all decided that we need to make this an annual occurance! Thank you!
