Excellent property for our family gathering...so perfect it was our second visit!Plenty of room to gather, cook and visit - both inside and out.Kitchen had all of the tools and dishes/glassware to accommodate our group and plenty of entertainment (chess, puzzles,ping pong, etc.). Beautiful art work throughout the house. Dolores is an amazing host and makes the stay very welcoming and comfortable!

Dolores was a marvelous host. She was very responsive, and gave supportive thoughtful responses. She went well above and beyond expectations with helping us get settled, providing appetizers and cider for when we arrived for check in, and clearly takes excellent care of the property and grounds. It’s a perfect place for a large group to be in one place, and the house is set up so there are separated clusters of rooms and bathrooms so it also felt like we could all have our own private spaces as well as spacious common areas. We would definitely stay again!

The property was well maintained & thoroughly clean. Dolores was an excellent host, was very welcoming & was responsive to issues we encountered during our stay. The road to the property from the highway was a bit steep & twisty, but did not cause any problems getting on or off the property. The house was very large & easily accommodated the 13 members of our family. The quirkiness & uniqueness of each room was interesting & will live on in our memories & family stories for many years to come. If we planned another trip to the Fort Bragg area, we would certainly request to stay at this property again.

The house is great overall – kitchen is well-equipped, property has lovely trails through the forest, bedrooms are nice, and StarLink internet connection works decently well. The host is very sweet and helpful, but our one complaint was that after driving 4 hours to get there, we would have been much happier if their tour of the house had been, say, 5-10 minutes long, rather than an hour and 45 minutes.

Exceptional place for a large group! My stay here for my bachelor party was phenomenal. We came to fish and ride the Skunk Train, and this beautiful property made the entire trip even more enjoyable. We created so many fun and memorable moments in nearly every common area, both inside and outside.The kitchen was perfect for our group. After spending our mornings fishing, it was effortless and enjoyable to come back and cook meals together every day. The property also had just the right amount of entertainment and amenities to keep us occupied whenever we weren't out exploring.The home itself was incredibly comfortable, and we loved that each room had its own unique atmosphere and charm. The grounds are beautifully maintained and make you feel like you're in a peaceful natural paradise. The fire pit was one of our favorite spots. It sits on lower ground, so the house fades into the background, making it feel like you've ventured even deeper into the woods.The kindness, hospitality, and genuine care of the host, Dolores, made the trip even more memorable and made hosting such a large bachelor party feel completely effortless.Everyone in our group fell in love with this place, and we were genuinely sad to leave. Slice of heaven

This is a unique home that is perfect for large family/friend gatherings. The property is rich with trees and greenery. Kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. The rooms were perfect for our group of adults and kids. Dolores is the perfect hostess. Can’t say enough good things about this gem of a retreat.

This house was perfect for a week with our extended family of 13. Each of us had a bedroom we liked. There were several great rooms where we could all gather. The redwood trees around us were magnificent. There were various hiking trails nearby. We rent large homes regularly, and this was the best stocked kitchen we have found in a rental home. Dolores was always ready to be helpful. Overall, we were all extremely satisfied.

Forest Retreat with fun for the Whole Family

Comfortable, secluded location. Three families + Siblings and their off spring ages 16 - 12. Spacious, lots of bedrooms and beds for everyone. Kitchen is SUPER very well equipped for any kind of cooking including BBQing in two large grills. Location is close to beaches, Fort Bragg and other recreational opportunities for the whole family. Can also hang out an enjoy the large hottub/spa or local trails through the forest.

A beautiful home that had room options to hang out in but the kitchen was the heart of the home. We used both stoves, both ovens and both refrigerators to prepare our Thanksgiving dinner and all the family helped in preparing our meal and there was room for more people to hang out in the kitchen. The kitchen was the best stocked kitchen with all the dishes, pots and pans and kitchen utensils that we have seen. Delores, our hostess, was very responsive to any of our needs and made us feel very welcome. The location is set in beautiful redwoods and it is only a 5 minute drive to the coast where we enjoyed visiting Ft. Bragg as well as Mendocino where there are beautiful state parks and beaches.

What a find. Plenty of room for our extended family and the grounds are gorgeous. Dolores was a super helpful host, giving us the tour of the property upon our arrival, including the history of the house as a commune. Our one bit of advice to her was a binder of instructions, hints, recommendations would be great so needn't call her to ask questions (she didn't mind, as she was right there on the property to help us.)

Lovely weekend getaway!

Our group of friends had a amazing Memorial Day weekend at Huckleberry Woods. The property was extremely clean and beautiful. We enjoyed the amazing artwork throughout the home and strolling through the peaceful Zen garden. The kitchen was spacious and we took advantage of the brand new grill. Dolores was a great host and helped us out with anything we needed. We especially appreciated her explaining the history of the estate with us. We'll definitely be back someday! Thank you!

Outstanding Place to Stay Especially Large Groups

This house is better called a retreat. We stayed from Mon-Fri. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was amazingly well stocked and left us wanting nothing. Something we all liked was that there are plenty of separate spaces for large parties so that people can gather or have quiet time. The surrounding setting is lush and the decks are well furnished so many people can gather and enjoy the outdoors, beautiful landscaping and we all loved the fountain sounds. We would absolutely book again and have already talked about scheduling another trip. The host was so nice and took care to show and explain the house. She answered all our questions and we enjoyed our conversations. This house was great for our large friend and family group. Cannot recommend enough!

Yearly Family Vacation

We found everything to be very clean and comfortable. There were two very nice sitting rooms with plenty of seating. The kitchen was large with 2 ovens and a stovetop. One of the ovens had convection. The house was very well decorated and interesting with different art and cultures represented. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. All of the bedrooms had their own bathroom with showers. The dining room was very comfortable and plenty of room for our 11 adults. Dolores is very interesting and helpful. The history of the property is also very interesting. We very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. Nice deck and hot tub also a fun game room with a ping pong table. Plenty of parking.

Perfection

Our trip was very last minute and we honestly thought we wouldn't be able to find anything. But on my final search, Huckleberry Haven suddenly popped up and I grabbed for it After some communication with our wonderful host, Dolores, it was decided that she could accommodate our little group for a few days getaway in between two larger, longer rentals. We were very grateful. The location is perfect. Our group likes cold and hot, sunny and cloudy - and we had it all. Huckleberry Haven is inland of the marine layer, so we had slightly warmer, sunnier weather than right on the coast, but still close enough to everything we wanted to see. Very handy to Mendocino, Anderson Valley, Fort Bragg and north and of course, right in the redwoods. The property is an oasis for walkers, from the Zen Garden to the Tea House and all through the forest. And oh - those gardens! Silent, serene and perfect for relaxation of the mind and body. The house and decks are very large with plenty of places to congregate or slip off by yourself for a little alone time. Everything is well-stocked and the kitchen is huge; linens are soft, towels are fluffy and abundant and the beds were oh so comfortable. Thank you Dolores for a truly wonderful getaway!

Wish we could give extra stars!

The house was very comfortable for 9 people in 6 bedrooms, lots of room inside & out to spread out and relax. Great hot tub, ping-pong, foosball, board games, tons of books, and lots of artwork to enjoy. Koi ponds, garden paths, benches, well away from the road and surrounded by countless acres of redwood forest. This is the most well-supplied house we've ever rented: plenty of dishes, quality pots and pans, spices, clothes hangers, extra towels, soaps, Ziplocs, cling wrap, bottled water, coffee filters... The kitchen is amazing, two cooking stations each with a Wolf stove, plenty of countertop appliances, and a breakfast table. Easy to cook up a feast even with a crowd in the kitchen. The dining room has one table for 8-10, another for 6. The host, who lives across the driveway and up a wooded path (close at hand if needed while not intruding on the house's privacy), was very welcoming and clearly put much thought into accommodating guests. Internet service was fine; some cell services (including AT&T) didn't work at the house. Ample parking under the trees. Location is great, 10 minutes from town with groceries, many different & surprising beaches, nice restaurants and shops. In 10 days we never ran out of things to do within 20 minutes drive, but also didn't feel overwhelmed trying to do too much. Don’t miss the Mendocino Gardens; check low tides for best tide pooling; if you have interest in coffee contact Thanksgiving Coffee about a tasting.

Gorgeous Forest Retreat

A friend and I celebrated our 50th birthdays this March at Dolores’ amazing property. We were drawn to her listing by the beautiful gardens, the peaceful setting in the redwoods, and the spacious home. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The weather was a bit cold while we were there, so we took full advantage of the fire pit and the hot tub. What a treat to soak under the stars! The house was spectacular too— it’s definitely not your typical rental! There is artwork and decorative touches everywhere, giving it a personal touch. We were a group of 13, and there was more than enough space for everyone. The beds were comfortable, and we had plenty of linens and towels. The highlight for us was the massive, well-equipped kitchen. We spent much of the weekend making group meals. We also hired a private chef recommended by Dolores to prepare a special 5-course birthday dinner the first night we arrived. The chef was easy to work with and came up with custom menu based on what we were interested in and what was in season. The dinner was amazing and made an already special weekend all the more memorable. Dolores lives on the property, so she was available if we needed anything. When we arrived, she gave us a tour of the house and property, and told us about its history. One morning, she surprised us with locally-baked pastries, which were delicious. She really went the extra mile to make it a memorable stay. Thanks, Dolores!

Our family of 18 spent four wonderful days at this spacious home. The house looks exactly as listed, quietly nestled among the beautiful redwoods. There was ample parking space on site. Everything was spotless inside when we arrived. Each room of the house was thoughtfully and uniquely decorated with themed works of art from around the world. Bedrooms varied in size, but were great for our family.The kitchen had an abundant supply of tableware and cookware. Appliances were top notch; we really appreciated having two refrigerators. There was enough seating in the dining room for our entire family to dine together. There were also several tables and chairs out on the beautiful and spacious wood patio.The teenagers in our group really enjoyed playing ping pong and the chess board saw a lot of action. The Wi-Fi worked well and we loved outdoor firepit and spa.Just a word of caution, there are steps throughout the house, not just the stairways going up to the second level. They are well lit. Pros: The home is very large, clean and comfortable. The rooms were very unique and interesting and our kids had a great time exploring them. The outside garden was beautiful and the host is very nice.Cons: Given the high price of the rental we were disappointed that many of the features listed were not available and we felt misled by the listing. For example the listing states there is a lake view, but there is no lake anywhere on the property. When we got there we were informed that the propane grill was unusable due to an incident with a bear but that the smoker was working. But we needed an extension cord that we didn't receive until after we needed it. It might have just been bad luck, but the hot tub that our kids were looking forward to was not working. Also it is not mentioned in the listing, but once we had booked and payed to stay there, we were informed that the house had electrical issues and the electricity might go out. Our electricity did go out in the middle of the night causing one of the guests CPAP machines to stop functioning and shut of hot water for awhile. Troubleshooting electrical problems was not what we were thinking we would have to do on our vacation. There are three electric panels and GFI plugs to test. Also elderly visitors should be aware that there are a number of awkward steps going in and out of each room that are potential trip hazards.Overall we felt that the number of issues was just too much to justify the high cost of the rental.

Thank you for your feedback and for your kind comments about our home and gardens. We'd like to clarify a few points for future guests. Our listing accurately describes the property and does not advertise a lake view. We are especially proud of our redwood grove, Zen garden, and Koi ponds which we have lovingly maintained for over 30 years. Regarding the electrical concern, there was no known electrical issue before guest arrival, nor was there notification, because no issue exists/existed. During the stay, a GFI outlet tripped as GFI safety outlets occasionally do. We responded promptly, reset it in just a few minutes, and the issue was resolved with no other problem. After the visit, an electrician replaced a GFI. We explained that a bear had damaged the grill making it unsafe to use. However, a Traeger smoker was provided as an alternative. The requested extension cord was promptly delivered and left with the Traeger. Guest Safety is extremely important to us. The home features illuminated pathways, step lighting, handrails, grab bars, non-slip stair treads, and safety signage throughout. Over six years of hosting, we have consistently received 10/10 star reviews, and we remain committed to property maintenance and to providing a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for every guest. Awesome Retreat for Family

We could not have selected a better place to enjoy some quality family time with all five siblings and spouses for five days! Dolores was the most amazing hostess any group could want. From the welcoming and overview to the location and history of the house to the guidance on a hike to the special treat at the end of our stay, we could have not been more pleased! Unplug and relax amongst the redwoods

Beautiful house and land to getaway from urban hub-bub and still have convenient access to necessities and touristy attractions in nearby Fort Bragg and Mendocino. We had a full house (14 guests) and still there was plenty of room to all congregate or find quiet space whenever desired. There was a variety of things for everyone to enjoy and our host , Dolores, was not only easy to communicate with about the house, she provided helpful suggestions about the surrounding area. Dolores set realistic expectations about phone service, which was important for the group. ATT network is limited on property, we were able to communicate by WiFi and iMessaging in the vicinity of the house. This is truly a place to unplug, and I really appreciated it :) I could go on and on…suffice it to say it was a wonderful way to spend a milestone birthday with family and friends. Dolores was an exceptionally thoughtful host.

A Stunning Retreat

Despite sleeping 8 and hosting 13 for meals, I still don't think we came close to spending enough time in all of the rooms and outdoor spaces at the home. The artwork is incredible and Delores spared no detail in the kitchen. This is the most unique and impressive home I've ever rented from VRBO and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to unplug and enjoy an immersive experience in a redwood forest.

Wonderful Stay in the Redwoods!

What a stunning home on sacred land. We celebrated several July birthdays and had a wonderful family vacation in Dolores' lovely home. Her care and attention to details made it all the more welcoming. The house is perfect for a large group. We made delicious meals in the kitchen, ate in the dining room and enjoyed the decks and comforts of the sunroom as a family. Everyone had a comfy bed. Dolores went above and beyond for each of us. Highly recommended for a large family gathering.
