Ocean View 7 Acre - Historic Home w/6+bds & 6+ba. 5000 sq ft- Like none other!

This spectacular, historic estate sits on 7.5 acres w/ a main house built in 1860. "The Fensalden", formerly a Wells Fargo stage coach stop, this grand main residence is graced w/ocean views from all west facing rooms, walkable land to explore & within walking distance to coastal trails. 6 of our bedroom here are ensuite (full bath in each room), each with their own exterior deck affording incredible privacy which few other properties can match. These 5 spacious & private retreats, 1 bedroom w/pull out queen couch and our 1 large "bunk room" sleep up to 20 guests. We also offer four well-appointed living areas spread out over the 5000 sq ft residence, each spot with its own unique character and designed so our guests can spread out enjoy a book while taking in the views, catch a movie on one of the two large TV's in this house or pull out the laptop to jump on our vibrant WIFI. The two large kitchens will easily support your group/family needs, along with multiple view dining areas.

Outside you’ll find incredible tranquility just exploring the 7+ acres or sitting back in one of pasture sitting areas surrounded by Adirondack seating, fire pits and the spectacular westerly views/sounds of the wild Pacific Ocean. This easily accessible but very private property lies within 10 mins of Mendocino & within a 1-5 minute drive of some of the best coastal restaurant/bars that northern California has to offer, beaches, coastal trails, Redwood forest, multiple rivers, golf/tennis, kayaking & state parks. The Anderson Valley wineries are all within 30 mins via one of our countries most pleasant/beautiful Redwood Forest drives (Hwy 128) you could ever imagine.

Note: Although we do book wedding and events at The Fensalden, we do not book these events through VRBO.

Absolutely wonderful

We had a fabulous stay here - beautiful place, neat as a pin, marvelous kitchen. My family raved about it our whole stay. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom, views are to die for, host was responsive and welcoming. I certainly hope we will be back.

We had a fantastic time at the Fensalden House. It’s a beautiful well kept historic home. There was plenty of room to gather or separate. The property had plenty of room for the kids to run and play some baseball. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. The little glitches we had were immediately taken care of. Henry was a kind and perfect host. I hope one day we can return.

Wonderful spacious house for a family gathering. We had 4 children and 8 adults very comfortably enjoy this spacious house. It’s farmhouse style with an upgraded kitchen with every kitchen item you need to cook and has a second oven and cooking stove and sink with second fridge next to the kitchen. The yard is huge and kids enjoyed s’mores and we saw beautiful sunsets and enjoyed the ocean view while eating meals in the sunroom area. Lots of games and books for kids. They loved their “kids club” space.

Beautiful historic home

Well-appointed large home with plenty of space to enjoy with our young and adult children. The owner was very responsive and helpful during the entire stay. The house had everything needed to relax, cook and enjoy the area. The fire pit outside was a hit, and we had a great time. Definitely recommend and will be back.

A Tranquil Paradise

This vacation rental is a delightful retreat near Mendocino. With its tasteful decor, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable living area, and serene outdoor space, it offers a luxurious yet homey experience. The host is helpful, great communication, the location is very close to the ocean, and the property maintains a tranquil atmosphere. Our group enjoyed every bit. A true five-star stay that I highly recommend!

Wonderful property

Truly amazing property with lush patio, large common areas, endless turns inside the house, and private personal space. Great space for entertaining and keeping the household together. The kids had a blast playing in the backyard as well. It was a pleasure and thank you for having us!

A one of a kind house!

This house was beyond anything we could have imagined! From the views and patios to the kitchen and bathrooms off each room - it was a girls weekend away dream home! Henry was very helpful ad responsive and even met me to give a personal tour of the whole house with great anecdotes about the history of the property. Would definitely stay here again with a big group.

A beautiful time and place

We had a fantastic four-day family get-together in this beautiful home, which comfortably accommodated all twelve of us. The kitchen is large and well-stocked (we put the two refrigerators and dishwashers to use!). Henry is a very responsive and helpful host. There are lots of games and books and views of the ocean. Mendocino is easily accessible. We hope to return soon!

Absolutely loved our weeklong stay here!!

We rented the beautiful main house as well as the other 3 smaller houses on the property to celebrate my 50th with a large group of friends and family (2-60yrs old). This property was absolutely gorgeous and worked perfectly for our crew of 33! All 4 houses felt very welcoming and cozy and easily handled our group’s varying needs and sleeping accommodations. They are even pet friendly so the fur babies weren’t left behind! The main house’s two kitchens were used easily to feed everyone and were well stocked with enough dinnerware & serving dishes. We brought a few insta-pots ourselves to use for a couple of the meals but found nothing lacking when cooking without them (altho an additional or bigger salad spinner would be helpful). The only thing overall that could have been better was the weather so that we could’ve played outside and enjoyed the decks and huge lawns more! I highly recommend building a fenced in dog area away from the road as it would make the dog owners in our crew die hard repeat customers for life! The owner, Henry, was a dream to work with! Very friendly and accommodating, always quick to respond to my questions and needs during our stay as well as the lead up to it. We will definitely be back, in fact, my friends are already plotting various reasons to make that happen. 😊

We feel its the perfect group or family reunion rental space and we have taken great care to present the entire property retaining much of the original finishes along with comfort inducing upgrades that will make your stay a memorable one.

Situated on the east side of HWY 1, our home is within walking distance to the Mendo coast and it's dramatic ocean-bluff setting overlooking a steel-blue sea. We are a quick drive to the coastal hamlet of Mendocino w/its restaurants and shopping, as well as multiple coastal restaurants & bars & glorious coastal trails. However, we sit on ocean view land, dotted with Cypress groves, that definitely provides a secluded and romantic setting.

What this home/property offers is very unique. While some properties on the coast advertise "beds" we are able to provide incredible bedroom privacy and vast interior space to spread out inside this historic home that almost no other coastal home offers.

With over 5000 sq ft of living space that offers 5 large bedrooms, each with its own full bath and view balcony/porch and another and a well appointed "bunk room" w/TV and pull out queen couch that sleeps up to 7. This home is perfect for couples, families, that value privacy. The separate sleeping quarters each with it's own spacious full bathroom affords our guests a unique and private experience that, we believe, is unmatched in a private home on the coast here.

Additionally, we offer 4 separate living areas to spread out in. The main view living room, a warm, spectacular coastal view sun room, the wrap around couch TV room & a cozy foyer sitting room centered around the original fireplace. Whether you're cozying up to read a book, spending an evening on Netflix or enjoying a bottle of wine with old friends/family, there are multiple well appointed, interior spaces that offer a spot for many to enjoy!

There are also two large kitchens in the main house. Prepping for Thanksgiving or your family reunion? These spaces have it all. Two stoves (one gas & one electric), two dishwashers, a commercial sink, 2 large refrigerators and a large stainless steel prep area.

Outside, we have multiple fire pit areas, hammocks, and over 25 Adirondack chairs to take in all this property offers. Let the kids explore ..sit back and relax.
