Hale Ohana, meaning “family house,” is a simple, welcoming island home nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood just a 10-minute walk from the crystal-blue waters and sandy beaches of the Poipu area on the south shore of Kauaʻi. Enjoy surfing, swimming, snorkeling, bodyboarding, and relaxed beach days with your family.

This is our personal family home, and our heart is to provide an affordable, comfortable way for families (ohana) to experience the beauty and spirit of the island. Hale Ohana is not a luxury resort — it’s a clean, fully furnished home designed for guests who value simplicity, practicality, and a more local way of staying on Kauaʻi.

The home comfortably sleeps 2–5 guests and features a newly remodeled kitchen so you can prepare meals and keep your trip cost-effective. Open the windows and let the gentle trade winds move through the house, adding to the relaxed tropical feel.

Because Hale Ohana is located in a true residential neighborhood, you’ll experience authentic island living — including nighttime frog songs, roaming chickens, and the occasional tropical critter. These are a natural part of life in Hawaiʻi and part of what makes staying in a local home different from staying at a resort.

In the backyard, you’ll find avocado, papaya, ʻulu, and mango trees — available to enjoy when in season.

Within a short 2–5 minute drive, you can take in breathtaking sunsets, seasonal whale sightings, honu(sea turtles), blowholes, and the beautiful shoreline of Poipu.

Hale Ohana is especially welcoming for families, with sand toys, boogie boards, a portable crib, and space to unwind after a day of adventure.

If you’re looking for a comfortable home base to explore the island — a place to cook meals, rinse off sandy feet, and gather together after full beach days — Hale Ohana offers a practical and meaningful way to experience the tropics.

The hosts were great and very responsive. We really liked the location and its quiet, residential feel. The beach and nearby shops are walkable — about a 15 to 20 minute walk.There’s lots of space in the house and a beautiful backyard that’s perfect for stargazing at night. The house can get warm if there isn’t much of a breeze, but the air conditioning in two of the bedrooms worked well and kept things comfortable.

This house was pretty much the perfect size for my wife and two kids. The property was very clean and had all of the amenities listed. Although of note, the listing did state that there was no air conditioning, however there was a window A/C unit in the master bedroom, which was very nice. We stayed in Kauai during the month of August so it was a bit warm in the other parts of the house so just be aware of that.

Comfortable and relaxing stay

Recently we spent a week at Hale Ohana - family and friends. It felt like home! Comfortable and cozy inside with plenty of space, beautiful and relaxing - green! - back yard! Naturally we didn’t spend much time in the house but while being there we didn’t miss anything, all amenities and necessities were present. Close to good food and beautiful beaches , great for snorkeling.

We were very pleased with our recent stay at Hale Ohana. The place is exactly as advertised, The home is stocked with everything you could need for a great stay, including beach supplies for all! We didn't cook, but if we had, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you would need. There are plenty of fans and enough air flow to make up for no air conditioning. We could, and did, walk to the beach and some other nice walks from the house. Thanks for a great stay!
