About Ruta Aras

Our family found this vacation spot by accident after spending fun summers in San Diego and wanting a place closer to home. A friend recommended Carpinteria. We tried it once and fell in love immediately. We spent a few seasons renting and finally decided we wanted to buy a place and make it our own.

Ruta Aras purchased this house in 2001

Why Ruta Aras chose Santa Barbara Area

One of the nicest aspects about living in Carpinteria is that it is flat so walking is easy and biking is even better. There is also a cute little public trolley in town that takes you all around for 50 cents -- what a deal. I love the monthly Flea Market at the local Carpinteria Museum. My favorite purchases are antique jewelry and purses. They also have beautiful flowers and vintage housewares. The pizza at Giovanni's is the best anywhere and so is the local ice cream store on Linden. It's fun attending all the local activities hosted by the city. Small town charm is so hard to come by these days. And if you want a taste of the big city, then Santa Barbara is conveniently only 15 minutes north of Carp and wineries in the Santa Ynez family are an hour away. You have the peace and quiet of a small town but access to great museums, restaurants, theater and shops if you want it.

Our guests love surfing, swimming, kayaking, and fishing at the beach. Others prefer skateboarding at the park In Santa Barbara or renting tandem style bikes. Still others prefer rock climbing, hiking in the local mountains. Adventurous ones schedule boat trips for whale watching on the ocean or visiting the Channel Islands which leave from the Santa Barbara Harbor.

What makes this house unique

While at the Beach House the first thing you notice is that you are walking distance to the beach, the salt water marsh preserve and to downtown Linden Avenue. We take the big beach wagon in the garage and fill it up with chairs, cooler, umbrella, boogie boards and take off to the beach. Afterwards we return to take outdoor showers and enjoy the backyard for a barbecue but first cocktails on the upper balcony watching beautiful sunsets or taking in the gorgeous mountain views on the back side. Cooking on the antique stove in the big kitchen that seats eight is fun -- so is discovering treasures in the 'Sugar Shack' the original structure to the Beach House built by the settlers that came out to Carpinteria from the midwest. Sometimes we take the train to Santa Barbara, the depot is two blocks from our house.

Many out of state guests enjoy the fair weather the area has to offer during the off-season. When it's cold and snowy in Canada or elsewhere in the United States the gentle weather locally attracts tourist who enjoy off-season rates and no crowds.

Excellent for family getaway for summer, long holiday weekends, holiday break.

  • 4 of 5

My husband, college age son and I just returned from a wonderful Christmas week at the house. Ruta was wonderful - when we arrived, holiday lights twinkled in the kitchen windows and a fully decorated Christmas tree greeted us in the living room. Very thoughtful, and much appreciated after a long drive from the SF Bay area. The weather was perfect. The house was clean and well maintained. Excellent customer service when we had a small issue with the heater - Ruta was very responsive, and the maintenance man was friendly when he dropped in to help. Kitchen was fully equipped to prepare festive holiday meals and more casual fare. We enjoyed the area with long walks on the beaches and shopping. Busy Bee Café our new favorite. Also, Handlebar for great artisanal coffee in Santa Barbara. Train noise was occasional, and took a little getting used to. Important to note that these tracks go through every beachside town along this area of Southern California coast - it is a fact of life for beachside living here, and it would be a thrill for younger visitors. I would recommend this home to friends looking for a comfortable, quiet getaway that is fully equipped for fun and family.

Would stay here again. There was hardly a thing we needed to buy in kitchen necessities. The location was great for beach and walking to town. Clean and well equipped for beach, towels, umbrella, etc. Roomy and comfortable.

The Beach House in Carpinteria

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed at the Beach House with my friends and it was an amazing experience for all of us. The house is adorable and plenty of room for everyone. It's location is perfect to. Near the beach and the town. Easy walking. There are plenty of bikes and places to bike ride to.. My favorite part of the house is The Sugar Shack. They are historical rooms downstairs. All the bedrooms in the house are decorated in a beautiful fashion and have comfy beds.

SO MUCH FUN!

Weekend getaway with the ladies - came in for the Avocado Festival. This was the perfect house! We parked our cars and walked everywhere - close to main street and the beach! The bikes were a pleasant surprise as well.

The Beach House is an Incredibly Inviting Home!

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem of a house. Almost has too many positive attributes to list in one short review. Our family has gratefully returned (many times) and we look forward to enjoying this spot again! From the moment you walk up the welcoming steps and enter the bright, happy kitchen -- you feel you've arrived at an incredibly inviting home. The vacation begins the minute you arrive. So many places to sit and enjoy the mountains, the horizon, the ocean air. Every room is comfortable and easy. The front porches (upper & lower!) offer perfect spots for morning coffee or an evening cocktail. The backyard is a relaxing spot to listen to the birds, have a glass of wine, take an afternoon siesta from the beach, or catch the charming sound of a train in the distance. Ruta has created a home full of the little details that make all the difference for an effortless stay. Each time we return to the Beach House, we notice some other added comfort or special accessory, all making a world of difference, for helping all to relax and enjoy. Plenty of awesome towels and items for beach! A fun assortment of movies. And the Sugar Shack is the kind of magical bonus space that deserves its own special review - a full bungalow bonus that feels like its own complete hideaway. And how about the clean garage filled with beach-cruising bikes! Such an awesome bonus to be able to leave the car in the driveway all day, ride barefoot down the quiet street right to the beach -- or ride into town to pick up some burgers from The Spot and transport the food back in the bike basket. This is NOT some impersonal space; this is NOT some generic corporate condo -- this is the real California deal! Low-key, welcoming, full of spirit, and well-maintained. Thank you, Ruta, for always sharing such a special place with our family. It puts me in a good mood just thinking about this house. Just knowing this home exists exactly the way it is meant to exist…always makes for an excellent beach vacation.

A Must Do!

  • 5 of 5

The Beach House is fabulous! My sisters and I and our kids had a wonderful week at the Beach House. It is charming, comfortable and super cozy. The house is decorated and complete with all the touches of home -- pillows, blankets, soft sheets, towels, beach chairs, bikes and the kitchen has every item you will need to cook and entertain. We loved the spacious 2 levels, and the 2 balconies for the incredible sunsets and the late night stars and moon. The Sugar Shack is adorable and functions as an extra space for kids complete with an outdoor shower. We

loved the garden backyard with the large bbq, fire pit and table and chairs. The neighborhood is peaceful and a short walk to the beach or town which is quaint and low key. Biking to the beach was fun and swimming in Carp is great no matter what age you are. I even made it to the float! In town we enjoyed The Palms for dinner, Islands for a local beer and of course don't miss The Spot for a burger and fries. Ruta, was very accommodating and treated us like family. She's the best! Overall it was a 10 vacation and we can't wait to book another stay soon again!
