About the host
Hosted by Brian Dodge
Pam and Brian live in West Newbury, Massachusetts full time. Brian grew up in Newburyport, while Pam lived in Guilford, CT. Growing up, Pam was fortunate to have an opportunity to spend a week or two on Nantucket for her family vacations. We married at the Inn at Mystic in 1995. Pam's love for the island spurred the buying 31 Pine Crest late 1996. The purchase was risky but has shaped our lives for the past 23 years. Our first weekend in the home was Valentine's weekend, 1997. Since 1997, we have rented the property for 3-4 weeks per year about half of the time. We had one renter for 12 years who ultimately bought our yard and and recently built a beautiful home due to their love for the Pine Crest Drive area. After doing the several hour trek 20-25 times per year for 20+ years, we got to spend out first summer in the home last year due to the new work from home opportunities. We spent most late afternoons and early evenings scouting out new beaches for sunsets and quiet drinks on the sand.
Why they chose this property
We love the property because it is an easy ride to town for shopping and restaurants downtown, while also providing easy access to several south shore beaches. We can get to Madaket in 20 minutes, Jetties in 15, and Sconset in 15-20. The house itself is perfect for our lifestyle. We can spread out for work from home, morning coffee on front and back decks, look at the stars or hang by the firepit on cool nantucket evenings. The first floor master suite is across the house from the other three bedrooms providing it's own sanctuary wit multiple couches and TV. We have also tried to incorporate everything that we have at home since we do not move bring a car for our visits. the house is move in ready for most needs.
What makes this property unique
The house is bright with plenty of windows and full glass doors in the front and back, and cathedral ceiling that creates a feel of open space. Most of the homes that we looked at when buying were more traditional. The house has always felt welcoming and fun to our friends and family with some good sized groups that never feel cramped.
