Ask a questionAbout Francis DiScala jr.
Dad, lawyer, fisherman, outdoors enthusiast in search of fun healthy activities to provide a full childhood experience for my many little ones. Nantucket, my favorite place on earth, never lets us down. The ocean and the beach has always been our calling.
Why Francis DiScala jr. chose Madaket
We had two homes on the island, one on Cliff Road and this house. We held them both so we could decide which we loved the most. After a family vote, Madaket remained. The population of Nantucket soars in the summer, something like from an off-season count of 10,000 swelling to over 60,000 in the season. In town becomes a disney world experience compounded with traffic and day trippers and shoppers. It's fun to be part of that for a day or two, but its the beach experience and quite that we wanted.
What makes this House unique
Our Madaket is the quintessential beach house close to both beach and bay, overlooking the gorgeous sunsets. We have a large family with little and big kids. We chose this house so that we would please every person in the house (not easy), and it does. The big kids head to the cottage and the little ones get the guest room across from the master bedroom in the main house. The guest room bed has two options: a california king or a twin bed set up. Kids that aren't old enough to drive can safely walk to the bus, which comes ever half hour, and ride to town for two bucks each way. They love the autonomy, and Nantucket is the safest inhabited island in America, probably in the world. The little kids love the yard and the deck, the kids beach, the ice cream and candy at what they call "down town" - the general store at Madaket Millie's. We all love the privacy of the location, the outdoor shower, the bikes, the beach cart and the sunsets. At night, the landscape transforms to a canopy of stars that fascinate the young and the old alike. We rest here and get closer to each other. And when we are close enough we can find places to be alone - a bike ride, a walk to the beach with the lab, or the front or back porch. It's not perfect, but the feeling we get while we are here is as good as it gets for us.
