Loved the Home

My family and I had an absolutely incredible time at the home! There was plenty of room, the house had everything we needed and the dock and water was great! I give our stay and this property 5 starts and highly recommend this property for anyone wishing to have an awesome vacation!! We will stay again!!

Love the house it’s a perfect size for 8-15 people honestly. The living space is massive and great for entertainment. The beds are all super comfortable and good sized. Only complaints were there were a few light bulbs out (the porch, the pool table) and the leak with the tub in the master bathroom. But other than that the space is amazing, and dock and space to hang out by the lake is awesome. And the house itself is super fun and has so much to offer.

Family Vacation

Relaxing lake house

This lake house was amazing! The layout of the house makes it great for large family gatherings. The view of the lake from the deck of all three levels is breathtaking! We definitely plan on returning! The host was very quick to answer any questions we had! We had a great experience!

Great large house for families/friends

Great spacious house on the water. It was nice to have king beds in all but one room. Nice dock, and easy walk to it.

Great location and property - central to a wedding we attended at a state park. House was not clean and needs significant repair work before being rented again. Mold and mildew issues throughout this property, especially downstairs. If you are immune compromised, don’t stay here. TLC will do this property justice.

The characterization of our home within this review is entirely inaccurate. We for sure had a couple of cleaning issues that should have been, and are currently being addressed, which we own and I am taking steps to correct. We hope that our 100's of other reviews for our home on various platforms speaks to the truth of the matter. I don't know what the motivation of this particular guest might have been to leave such a review.

Good relaxing vacation.

The bathrooms (toilets, tub/shower) could have been cleaned a little better, but overall it was a great trip. Nice house and great location. Saw deer around the property nearly everyday, and of course the kids loved that.

Family Vacation

Perfect for a family vacation. Large dock in quiet cove for safe swimming. There was a minor issue and the owners were very responsive. Downstairs gameroom is great for family games.

Family (cousins all over 65!) loved the home. Perfect for our group. We brought our tritoon over and used the dock. Big dining table fit for us! Beds were super comfortable. Pool table made for great competition. Enough parking for everyone. Would definitely pick it again. Owner was fast to respond to a question.

Great getaway

We wanted a big house to get away for NY weekend to relax, eat, watch football, and spend time. The home was perfect. Plenty of room to spread out and the views off the back are awesome from every level. It was very well equipped and we had everything we need. The area is nice as we walked and ran the connecting roads.

What a wonderful property and home. It was perfect for the 8 people that were there. We had such a good time that we did not want to leave. The owner responded to anything that we requested immediately. We give this house at 10 and will be back next year for sure.

Our three generation family vacation was awesome here for our second year in a row. Great quiet cove for safe swimming. The property manager is responsive. The kitchen works great for large groups. We will continue as regular renters.

Amazing location.

We stayed for the weekend and really enjoyed our stay. It was great to have so many king beds for us all to have our own rooms and the location on the lake is amazing. So peaceful. We spent most of our time down at the dock swimming and had a boat for the weekend. Our only concern was the house was no very clean when we stayed. One of the beds was covered with dead flies and also in the bathroom. Other than that it was a great stay.

This booking saved our wedding!

Was super impressed to find this available only two weeks out from our wedding after the cabin we had booked 10 months before cancelled on us! Anthony was quick to respond when we had one small issue, and corrected it immediately. House was clean and easy to find, but heads up, no super close stores! We enjoyed dinner at J Peters and Southern Hart Brewery! 10/10 would stay again!

Spacious home

This home is absolutely beautiful. The kitchen has everything you need to cook with. We rented it in hopes to get all my family together that live in the area as we live in a different state. We we're able to make that happen and had so much room which made for a very nice visit with everyone. We have saved this property and hope to stay here next year and every year after! Would love to stay during the summer and use the dock and play in the lake. Any questions or problems we had were answered and resolved very promptly!

Fantastic property!

We loved this house! We’re a group of four families who vacation together every summer and this house was perfect for us! Easy access to the lake and a game room downstairs helped keep our teens engaged (and off their devices!). There were a few issues that came up during our stay but Anthony was very quick to respond each time. The house is rural enough that we were away from noise and light pollution, but close enough to a few towns to go shopping when we needed to. And the deer! I definitely recommend Southern Gem for large family or friend groups!

Very nice place

We stayed here as a group of four couples while visiting family in Hartwell. This house was perfect for us. It is big enough that everyone can find a place to be alone and also be together without being crowded. The beds were super comfortable. The private bathroom for each bedroom was very nice. The location is private and was very quiet. The decks are great to sit on and enjoy the view of the lake. The downstairs area has a pool table and table top shuffleboard that were lots of fun. There were two sets of laundry machines that made it easy for everyone to be able to conveniently do laundry. I definitely recommend it and would stay again!

Great location

Large space. Love the shuffle board and pool table. Fishing on the dock was fun. House has lots of potential if it was upgraded. Fridge was not working properly (new fridge did not arrive). Shower in Master was out of order ( was scheduled to be fixed the week after we arrived). Housekeeper could have cleaned a lot more than she did.

We hate having issues at our homes as much or more as guests do, and we do everything within our power to maintain our properties. We also give guests a heads up on any issues well prior to their arrival as we feel this is a better solution than canceling someones vacation stay when inevitable issues arise as with any home. We notified Donna of the issues a week in advance when it became clear that neither the refrigerator that was leaking water, and the replacement shower pan for the shower wouldn’t be finished. We also, due to the issues noted, discounted the guests weekend stay very significantly, and we apologized as we have been attempting to resolve both issues as quickly as humanly possible. The shower is now completely repaired, everything else in the bathroom in question including the tub worked great for the guests stay (and the 3 other full bathrooms are fully functional). The new refrigerator has also been delivered and to be installed in the next 3 days.

Perfect relaxing vacation

This was probably our most favorite vacation ever. We went for the sole purpose of using our pontoon boat and enjoying the lake for a week. This is exactly what we did! The location of the house was great. The lot and property were gorgeous with deer, squirrels, lizards, and just so quiet and peaceful. We set up chairs on the dock and a hammock in the trees and truly relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. This house was definitely the most equipped of any rental we’ve ever stayed in. It has absolutely everything you need in the kitchen and throughout the house. It was also very spacious with plenty of room for everyone. We had 4 teenagers with us and they enjoyed the bunk beds and also the game room downstairs. We hope to be back next summer for sure!!

Great rental property for a group

We had three couples (seniors) here for a week. The house is large and really secluded. Sitting on any of the three levels of deck you hear only birds (and owls!) and see only trees - no neighbors. We saw deer on the property every day. The dock is in a cove set back from the main channel, and is very calm. Unfortunately, the lake water level was down about four feet, so we didn’t do any swimming at the dock, but we did find a nice state park with a small beach. We were able to rent a pontoon at the local marina and really enjoyed the lake. The house was very clean and the kitchen is great. Very well outfitted with every pan and gadget you’d need. Loved the huge induction cooktop. The mattresses are really comfortable, and with en-suite king bedrooms on each floor we had a lot of privacy. The pool table was a fun feature! The back decks face East, so sunrises over the lake were beautiful. But be mindful that the top level master has no window treatments, so if you’re not a morning person you should bring a sleep mask! The owner is very responsive to any questions, and was able to accommodate our request for early access. I would definitely recommend this place.
