The Chickadee Suite is an immaculately kept, fully-equipped Suite located at Hummingbird Suites.
We have two Suites, Hummingbird & Chickadee.
Your private entrance passes by one of our gardens often visited by the ruby-throated hummingbird and many chickadees.
One of our guests had this to say about this Suite: 'We love it here!! To find Hummingbird Suites was to find a slice of heaven in the midst of an already perfect oasis. Can't wait to come back. You are gracious & thoughtful and this is truly the best place we have ever stayed on any vacation'.

About Kevin and Donna Kane
Donna and I built Hummingbird Suites ourselves and named it after Donna's favorite bird. Kevin works at a local genetic research facility and Donna is a beautician and runs her own Salon. Kevin is from Florida and Donna from Massachusetts.
Kevin and Donna Kane purchased this Apartment in 2002
Why Kevin and Donna Kane chose Bar Harbor
We live so close to the national park and we had so many friends from other States always wanting to stay with us because of the beauty and so many outdoor activities that we decided it was a great location for a vacation rental.
What makes this Apartment unique
Hummingbird Suites is only one mile from the National Park and yet close to town but you don't have to fight the traffic of an in-town location. Also we have plenty of parking which can be quite an issue in town. Our favorite activity is watching the numerous hummingbirds that spend their summers here at the Suites visiting a variety of flowers in our gardens.

Ideal selection; count yourself lucky if it is available
Hummingbird Suites have two units available for rent. Do not hesitate on booking either of these if they are available. This accommodation was our favorite of our entire trip from Minnesota to Maine. The owners live on site and are friendly, giving tips on how to cook a live lobster, even supplying the propane cooker and pot. The Chickadee suite is spotless and includes a washer/dryer, a king sized bed in a beautiful bedroom and a fully equipped kitchen. Every item needed to cook is provided from pancake griddle to crockpot. Guidebooks in the room included one on the carriage road system, helpful since we brought our bikes. The location is just north of the park visitor center. Returning from a long day’s outing felt like coming home.
As clean as advertised. Very happy
As clean as advertised. Very happy. Great hosts, my kids love feeding the ducks and we will definitely come back
Clean comfortable, love the view. Enjoyed chickens and ducks!
Great access to acadia, bar harbor and so many things to enjoy nearby! All the little extras that the hosts thought of to stock the kitchen were perfect! Thank you
Wonderful Acadia stay
The cottage was wonderful. Having a kitchen area for an extended stay was great. The bed was very comfortable and accommodations very nice. The owners were very pleasant and the cottage was very clean with all the basic amenities. The cottage is very close to the entrance of Acadia NP, as well as near Bar Harbor. The owners have chickens on the property and eggs are for sale to those staying in the cottage. I would definitely stay here again.
Lovely and cozy place conveniently located near th park.
We had a lovely stay in the Chickadee suite. Donna was great and the proximity of the place to the park and Bar Harbor was terrific. We'd stay here again.
Lovely Stay in Rustic Setting
Spent our Honeymoon in Bar Harbor twenty years ago, and surprised my wife with return trip for our twentieth anniversary. Opted to stay here, a couple of miles outside of town, instead of pricier B&B options in town mainly due to price difference and pictures in VRBO ad looked nice. Very happy with this choice!
Accommodations were clean, cozy, and private. Plenty of warm blankets and towel warmer in the bathroom kept us quite comfortable during our mid-October stay (Weather was co-operative as well, with temps close to mid 60's during the day). We've lived in Florida for the last twenty years, so, happy to say we were never uncomfortably cold inside or out.
Property is rustic, with ducks, geese and fancy chickens, lovely flower beds and a large veggie garden all featured, and general area around property is scenic.
Got a bit misdirected on the way in due to road construction and our GPS being confused for some reason, but Kevin and Donna were available upon our first call, and guided us in. We did not encounter them much during our stay, as we were out in the park or downtown the vast majority of the time (when we weren't sleeping in!), but when we did see them they were quite personable and attentive. Perfect hosts. They have been doing this a long time and it shows. We didn't want for anything.
Property is a straight maybe three or four mile drive from downtown Bar Harbor. The Hull Cove entrance to Acadia National Park is about halfway in between. Due to road construction, some detours elongated the ride a bit, but no worries - we had the top off our rental Jeep and the weather was great. Laughed when we left the top off overnight once and it was full of pine needles the next morning!
Sadly, the town and park this trip were WAY more crowded than when we went same time of year twenty years ago - back then season ended abruptly after Columbus Day and we had the whole place almost all to ourselves. Nowadays, it seems season continues all the way through October and possibly into early November, according to some locals we spoke with. Loads more automobile traffic, and recently cruise ships have been arriving, disgorging thousands daily onto the town. Rows of cars parked all along the Park Loop Road throughout Acadia as well, and sunrise on Cadillac Mountain was jam packed.
Nonetheless, despite the throngs, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit back to Bar Harbor and would highly recommend staying in the Hummingbird Suites if you go!
