I am sorry, but we are not a suitable property for children under 10 years old. We are a non smoking home. No smoking allowed in the suite or on the premises.

The Hula Breeze is a self-catering licensed vacation rental located on a secluded road, only a few short blocks from Kailua beach and minutes from Lanikai Beach. Nestled among tropical gardens, we have taken care to create a refuge of comfort that is designed to meet all your needs. No breakfast inclluded as you have your own kitchen.

The Palm Room is spacious and clean. It has a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, sink, microwave, hot-plate, and dishes and all the cutlery you will need to cook.

Our tropical breezes are cooling and soothing, but for those who require AC, we have it available. Please note, we no longer offer pool or washer/dryer. Our current prices reflect this.

We provide you with Coffee your first morning, but you may want to stock up on groceries at one of our many local grocery stores, including Whole Foods, just a 5 min. drive from you suite. We also have a local farmers market (Thursday mornings from 9 am -10 am) just a 5 minute walk from us.

You will be lulled to sleep by the gentle tropical breeze. You will awaken refreshed after sleeping between luxurious sheets of 400 thread count on a comfy king size bed. After savoring a breakfast of local fruit and Kona coffee, enjoy sitting on the lanai while listening to exotic bird songs.

Help yourself to a boogie board, beach chair and towel and take a 7 minute stroll through a residential neighborhood, protected from traffic and crowds, as you make your way to Kailua Beach.

Rated among one of the best beaches in the US, here you will be welcomed by warm ocean breezes, turquoise blue waters and white sand that is soft and warm. Remember how it felt to be a carefree kid on summer break? Here you can relive those memories.

Go ahead and rent a kayak, surf board, paddle board, bike, kite board or windsurfing gear…all just 10 minutes from your guest suite. The ocean is your playground. Shopping, tennis and golf are also nearby!

Stop off at the famous Kalapawai Market where they can make you a delicious deli sandwich for a picnic lunch or serve up a latte just the way you like it.

Once you return to your home away from home at the Hula Breeze, you might take a nice nap before heading out to the charming town of Kailua. You’ll be surprised to find many restaurants to choose from in all price ranges.

You will be eager to return to your spacious suite where you may lounge on your comfy bed and perhaps enjoy some pineapple/coconut ice cream….sure to give you the sweetest of dreams.

If you choose to venture out to explore, Kailua is the perfect get-anywhere location. The island of Oahu is only 40 miles tip-to-tip, so you can explore it all quite easily. Honolulu and Waikiki are just a half-hour away. As your on-site hosts, we will help you discover and enjoy our beautiful island.

About Allison Shadday

We love to travel and we love our Hawaiian home. In 1998 we took a year off to visit 17 different countries. Our travel experience gives us first-hand knowledge of what makes a simple room a “second home.' Sven speaks fluent German. Allison is a counselor who listens well in any language. Ellie is our friendly Bernese Mt. Dog who wonders how she ended up in Hawaii. We are happy to share our “local” perspective on activities, sites to visit and restaurants.

We have lived in many spectacular places, but Kailua offers us the ideal location to pursue all our passions. One of the most beautiful beaches in the world is just a few blocks away. Hiking, biking, golfing, kayaking, windsurfing, kite-boarding and more are available just a few minutes from our home. We can walk to the quaint town of Kailua or take a 30 minute drive to Honolulu for world class cuisine. The tropical weather allows us to enjoy water sports all year long! Not to mention the warmth and kindness of our Hawaiian neighbors. We have found one of the greatest places on earth!

What makes this studio unique

Sven and I live on the property, so we are available to answer questions and make sure your needs are met. We are a licenced vacation rental! We are located in a quiet, residential area surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation. Our suites are large and private and include a lanai looking out to our gardens. You can walk to the beach or town in 10 minutes or less and kite-boards, kayaks, bikes and windsurf boards are available for rental just around the corner from our home.

Perfect!

Perfect for Us! The room had everything my two daughters and I needed for a comfortable stay. Comfortable bed, small kitchen, to eat our cereal, make eggs and toast, reheat restaurant take outs. My daughter slept on the futon and said it was very comfortable. Clean bathroom and shower with plenty of towels provided. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The room was light, airy, and pleasant. In the evening there was flowery aroma in the breeze. Our host, Allison was very friendly, helpful and available to answer questions, and give tips on the places we wanted to go. She provided boogie boards, beach chairs, and snorkel gear upon request. I would stay there again and recommend it to family and friends. Thank you Allison and Sven!

A BLOODY SHAME ! SURROGATE HOSPITALITY. WE HAD A GOOD TIME, DESPITE THIS IRRESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT !!

MY JAPANESE SPOUSE AND I [DUTCH NATIONALITY] STAYED AT THIS OVERPRIZED AND OVERVALUED ACCOMODATION DURING FEBRUARY 7TH AND 12TH. TRIPADVISOR 'AWARDED' THIS PLACE WITH A 'CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCY' 2015, WHICH IS ABSURD AND GROTESQUE MISLEADING, AND CORRUPTING REALITY.

EXCELLENCE ..: NO WAY !!!

THIS 'CERTIFICATE' IS A PURE FARCE. EVEN NORMAL THINGS WERE SEVERELY LACKING.

AFTER WE PAID FOR 5 NIGHTS, WE GOT A MAIL OUT OF THE BLUE [DEC. 15TH, 2016] : "I AM SORRY. MY PROPERTY IS NOT AVAILABLE. FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY. WE PANICKED OF COURSE BY THIS CYNICAL AND SOULES MESSAGE.

AFTER AN EMERGENCY MAIL, THE OWNER CASUALLY REMARKED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A 'MISTAKE' ....

ON ARRIVAL IN THE MORNING, AFTER A LONG FLIGHT, IT TURNED OUT THAT OUR ROOM WAS ALREADY OCCUPIED BY AN > 80 YEARS OLD LADY. THERE WAS NOBODY PRESENT OF THE HOST FAMILY ! THE OLD LADY STARTED CRYING AND IN SECONDS WE WERE OCCUPIED WITH COMFORTING HER ..

AFTER VARIOUS TELEPHONE CALLS WE WERE ASKED TO RETURN IN THE AFTERNOON TO GIVE A CLEANING WOMAN THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE THE BED SHEETS. WE WERE OBLIGED TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO SPEND OUR TIME. AFTER RETURNING WE HAD TO CLEAN OTHER PERSON'S DIRTY DISHES.

THE OWNER'S 'MANAGEMENT' IS >MANAGEMENT BY REMOTE CONTROL< OR >MANAGEMENT BY ABSENCE<. DURING OUR STAY WE NEVER SAW HER. HER PRESENCE WOULD HAVE PREVENTED TROUBLES.

ONE ADVERTISES THE ACCOMMODATION AS A "B & B", HOWEVER, NO BREAKFAST WHATSOEVER WAS EVER OFFERED. THE HUSBAND SHOWED UP ONE EVENING, AFTER 2 DAYS, TO SAY 'HELLO'. HE RIDICULED THE "B & B" ISSUE CASUALLY BY STATING THAT "B & B" IS JUST AN 'ADMINISTRATIVE CATEGORY'. SELF-SATISFIED HE CLOSED THE TOPIC WITH A 'JOKE' OF SORTS: "B & B" ACTUALLY WOULD MEAN "BED & BEACH" .. HA HA HA ..

OTHER INCONVENIENCES:

# THE SHOWER POSITION IS FAR TOO LOW; IT'S QUALITY: OUTDATED [60 YEARS OLD].

# A NOISY FRIDGE, WHICH PRODUCED A LOUD 'BOOM', EVERY HOUR OR SO, INCLUDING AT

NIGHT.

# NO TOWEL REPLACEMENT.

# ONE CAN CLEARLY HEAR ANOTHER PERSON'S VOICE IN THE NEXT DOOR

ACCOMMODATION.

THE PRICE~VALUE IS STRONGLY OUT OF BALANCE; ITS MORE OR LESS A COMMERCIAL ROBBERY. IT'S ONLY PECUNIA WHICH MATTERS. RESPONSIBILITY: ZERO. ONE ADVERTISES ONLY IMAGE. E-MAILS ARE FULL OF 'WARM REGARDS', BUT IT'S ALL 'MODERN' EMPTY, INDIFFERENT VOCABULARY.

THIS IS A PROTOTYPE EXAMPLE OF BAD FAITH, THOUGH THE OWNERS EVEN MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND THIS CORE ELEMENT OF CIVILIZATION.

Owner's Response: Aloha, After operating The Hula Breeze for 9 years and being rated by hundreds of guests as providing excellent accomodations and warm hospitality, and maintaing the number one ranking for years in Kailua on Trip Advisor, it is difficult to read such an unbalanced review and not respond. This guest started out his interaction with us by trying to book twice and using a different name. We accepted the original booking and when he tried to book again, we sent him the standard response saying it was booked, because HE had already reserved the dates under a different name. He became outraged, sent an angry email, but it was his error! The guest arrived wanting to check in early and this is when we realized that an elderly guest who had checked in late the night before had checked into the wrong room. My husband immediately took care of the situation and got the cleaners to come and help the guest move to the right room and then cleaned this guests room. It was ready for him by agreed check in time of 3pm. I notified the guest ahead of time that I would be out of town, but my husband was present and did of course work to help with the room change and other requests. It is clearly stated in our description that the suite is self-catering as you have everything you need to cook in the suite. Including blenders, rice cookers and other extras! The "B&B" is strictly a licensing category here in Hawaii. For our guests, we send detailed check in information and we write your name on a welcome chalk board next to the door. We offer self-check in for our guests conveninence and they usually love it! We have held our rates steady for 9 years and offer very competitive pricing given the quality of our suites and our proximity of being ust 2 blocks from beautiful Kailua beach. We are happy to provide extra towels if a guests simply requests it. We do providen two sets of towels as well as beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas etc... If you read our reviews, you will note that most guests mention how QUIET our suites are. If you are ever disturbed by noise, we do provide AC which can sound proof the room, but most guests prefer the open windows and breezes as we live on quiet cul-de-sac. I just hope that anyone reading this review would please read some of the hundreds of reviews both here and on trip advisor and make your judgements based on those reviews. Warm Regards, Allison

Great stay and location

We only stayed one night but wished we could stay longer. We live on Oahu and like to do staycations in different parts of the island. Kailua is one of our favorites. Highly recommend a stay at Hula Breeze!
